Forza Motorsport has received multiple updates since racing onto Xbox last October, and in the latest announcement, it's looking toward Update 6 launching in March 2024 and changing how car progression works.
In brief, this new update will give players "freedom" to equip the parts they want to install, regardless of a car's level, while also retaining aspects of the existing system. Here's the full explanation from the game page:
Firstly, we will remove the locked part mechanic so all car parts can be accessed at Car Level 1 for every car in the game. Once a car is added to your car collection, you can install upgrades to it in any order that you wish. Whether it's engine swaps, race tires, aspiration changes, body kits or any other part available for your vehicle, you will have the freedom to build cars your way.
Secondly, in addition to earning Car Points through levelling up the car, you will be able to use in-game Credits to acquire Car Points. This means you can begin to immediately install upgrades to your car if you have sufficient Credits or if you would rather save your Credits, you can still earn car parts through car leveling as before.
We’re testing a ratio of 4,500 Credits for 500 Car Points and based on the feedback we’ve collected, we expect this to provide a healthy balance. That means if you’re upgrading the 2021 Volkswagen Golf R with all available parts at Level 1, for example, it will cost 89,775 Credits. In the case of the 2021 BMW M4 Competition Coupé, for all parts it amounts to 125,325 Credits, or for the 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432, it totals to 133,875 Credits.
Brand discounts will remain as they currently are. When a car reaches the maximum Car Level 50, a Showroom discount of 5% is applied to future cars you purchase from that same manufacturer. If you get 5 cars from the same manufacturer to Car Level 50, the loyalty discount stacks to 25%. The time needed on-track to reach Car Level 50 will remain between 2 and 3 hours.
Once again, this update is targeting a March 2024 release, with the team planning to provide an exact date closer to launch. Update 5, featuring the world-famous Nürburgring Nordschleife track, is also arriving later this month. You can get the rundown about it in our previous post:
What are your thoughts about car progression changing in the new Forza Motorsport? Let us know!

6 years of development and a further 6 months since release and this game still feels half-arsed and soulless.
Crazy to think I've been having more fun on F123 and that's one of EA's iterative churned out games.
Agreed that it’s lame it took this long to get things the way they should but I’m looking forward to this change. I didn’t like the progression system so going back to old way but with “leveling up” for discounts seems like a cool move.
While I agree the game feels soulless I think in terms of graphics and handling this is the superior Forza.
There are some manipulative systems in place that I truly despise: the removal of single player content when there's not enough races to begin with. I've lost a few prizes because they removed a series before I could finished it (ie not enough money to buy a car). That's truly annoying and it basically makes your 80$ game an empty shell. If I had bought it instead of just playing it through GamePass I would have asked for a refund, as I told them in the survey.
The upgrade system that wants you badly to practice a track is another manipulative system I despise. I decide if I want to practice or not, you don't tell me.
Then there's this weird thing I think I've never seen in a racing game where you don't know how far behind or ahead you are from your opponents. I don't remember in multiplayer, I haven't played it that much, but those info are definitely not available in single player. Unbelievable.
As for the tracks, looking forward to my fav track, Nordschleife. But these are almost all tracks we pretty much know by heart. Personally I'd like original tracks and at least one urban track would be nice as well.
With all that said, again, I'm enjoying the game and I will keep playing 1/2 races here and there for a long time. But I feel some "forces" outside the core development team have imposed some sort of retention/manipulative systems that have broken everything.
Finally. I might actually start playing again after this update.
Well that is certainly an improvement, I'll give them that. Might actually make me return, as not being able to just build an ideal car I would want to race was my biggest complaint. I am used to paying credits, that's how the old system always worked, I might prefer it to be a little cheaper though.
@BRT15 why bash EA for everything. Codemasters did that way before EA aquired them.
Great stuff as that system made the game very unattractive for a lot of players. It might be too little too late as gaming moves so fast these days. 5,6,7 are all amazing games. Love everyone of them. The online requirement for this game and the Forza quick delisting issues means this game is just not that appealing and that’s a real shame, as I don’t want to commit hours and hours to a game that will be completely unplayable in a couple of years. The ticking timebomb of online only games is ridiculous and needs to be addressed. Let us play games when they go offline
@xxk7xx Yeeees! The lack of information about how far behind you are is such a weird choice. It motivating and fun to see how much time you knocked off at each checkpoint.
All sounds good, I've gone from initially liking the existing progression system to somewhat annoyed by it. I think this new way will be better for most players.
I'd still like to see VR added though, I love the way this game drives but VR adds so much to a racing sim, this is probably the main reason I don't play more Forza Motorsport. I appreciate I'll be in the minority here.
@BRT15 FM came out in October, right. How the hell is that 6 months ago?
@RBRTMNZ
Right? Nobody is talking about that, so they won’t probably fix it, although it could be really easy.
@robe
True vr is the real deal for racing games
@xxk7xx It's like this in every Forza game I have played so I don't think they see this as a necessary feature. It's bafffling.
Sounds like a positive change, to me - I’m all for having the choice of how we get to level up our cars.
@theduckofdeath yeah choose to focus on the 6 months rather than the 6 years and more importantly the quality of the game. That's clearly what's more important 🤦🏾
Yesssss this is what I have been waiting for. Bring it on!
@BRT15 Well, you're being hyperbolic on one hand, and I guess insinuating Turn 10 was too slow developing the game on the other. I chose not the address the latter.
