Bloomberg is reporting that another Embracer Group development team has been hit by layoffs, resulting in the cancellation of a brand-new Deus Ex game.
We don't have too many details on the project — it was unannounced at the time of its reported cancellation — but the outlet claims the game was "slated to enter production later this year" after being in early development for two years.
Eidos was the team behind this project - the very same studio that delivered the last Deus Ex game; Mankind Divided. That one launched on Xbox One in 2016, so it's safe to say it's been quite a wait for a new entry in the franchise.
Last year, multiple Embracer teams suffered job losses - and some studios like Free Radical and Volition have even been shut down entirely. This news also comes after Microsoft announced huge layoffs across Xbox, with almost 2,000 jobs lost in total.

Damn, that’s a shame. Love that IP. Embracer is an utter disaster since that Saudi investment group backed out. They run around gobbling up companies and IP like Pac Man and have almost nothing to show for it. Hopefully they continue to go down the tubes and are forced to sell off many of its higher quality IP.
Argh I love Deus Ex, have done ever since the first game - stupid Embracer betting the house
Oh nooooo, dammit. I love Deus Ex, someone should just buy the IP from Embracer and give it to Warren E Spector, with proper funding and let him give us another DE.
Damn. I've been pining for a new Deus Ex for a while now.
Really a shame to see. With all the goings on, probably will never find another developer that really captures what DeusEx should be again
Embracer should probably just close itself at this point and sell the IPs to people that actually make games.
this is gonna be the driest gen in history. except for indies but we could have stayed with xbox one for that.
Embracer has become an IP troll by this point, just buying up names they don't intend to produce anything with.
Dear Microsoft: please save Eidos from Embracer!
