January has always typically been a quiet time for new Xbox releases, but last year broke the mould with some major arrivals such as Hi-Fi RUSH and GoldenEye 007, and somehow January 2024 has surpassed expectations once again.
Specifically, we want to highlight six games that have all arrived in excellent form on Xbox throughout January, starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown on January 15th, and concluding with today's reviews of Persona 3 Reload.
Looking at Metacritic, five of these games have fallen between the 83 and 93 ranges in terms of their average reviews for Xbox Series X so far. In fact, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth would have been the third best-rated title if it released in 2023, beating the likes of Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4, Dead Space and many amazing games.
The other Xbox title from January 2024 that we have to point out is Palworld, which has quickly become one of the most popular games in the world. That makes it one of the most important Xbox console exclusives of recent years!
So, in case you haven't been keeping up with the news this month, we wanted to bring these six superb Xbox releases from January to your attention once more. You'll find lots more details below, including our hands-on impressions.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Metacritic - 87)
"Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer game set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate."
Palworld (Metacritic - N/A)
"Fight, farm, build and work alongside mysterious creatures called "Pals" in this completely new multiplayer, open world survival and crafting game!"
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Metacritic - 83)
"Join rookie attorney Apollo Justice and his mentor, the legendary Phoenix Wright, in this collection of 3 games! This title features 16 episodes (including previously DLC-only episodes) and supports English, French, German, Japanese Korean, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese."
Tekken 8 (Metacritic - 87)
"Fist Meets Fate in TEKKEN 8. Holding a record for the longest-running video game storyline, the TEKKEN series begins a new chapter as TEKKEN 8 continues the tragic saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines, and their world-shaking father-and-son grudge matches starting from 6 months after the closure of the last match. The story of Jin Kazama's growth and determination marks a new chapter in the timeless saga."
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Metacritic - 93)
"Two larger-than-life heroes, Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu are brought together by the hand of fate, or perhaps something more sinister… Live it up in Japan and explore all that Hawaii has to offer in an RPG adventure so big it spans the Pacific."
Persona 3 Reload (Metacritic - 86)
"Dive into the Dark Hour and awaken the depths of your heart. Persona 3 Reload is a captivating reimagining of the genre-defining RPG, reborn for the modern era with cutting-edge graphics and gameplay."

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is just ridiculously good and I'm only halfway through Ch. 3!
I will check out prince of persia at some point but none of these games are really in my wheelhouse.
I'm on chapter 4 of Like a Dragon infinite Wealth and my god, it's so incredibly good! From what I've played my favorite Like a Dragon game and it might be one of my favorite games ever. The sheer amount of great content in this game is amazing. Every side quest and every new minigame introduced is a hit. It's incredibly funny one moment and makes you cry the next moment. It's unbelievable they made this game in under 3 years....
@Lavalera
Already bought it but I'm currently playing Lost Judgement. Gaiden will be next and then finally Infinite Wealth. Hyped as hell for it. Everyone is praising it and it only hypes me even more.
@Lup Gaiden is like a mini bridge from Yakuza: Like a Dragon to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth! Towards the end of Gaiden you see a pivotal story line from another point of view. Really cool!
@Lup Understandable m8. Luckily both Lost Judgment and Gaiden are also very good games. Lost Judgment has the best combat imo and Gaiden feels like a fan service game. Just beware for the ending of Gaiden. It might hit hard, keep the tissues ready. So you have some great game time ahead of you! Enjoy it!
Prince of Persia is certainly fantastic. It’d definitely have been in my top 10 list if it had released last year, which was a fantastic year. Tekken is solid so far too, potentially better than the two fantastic fighters we had last year. I’ll be honest, the hype for Like a Dragon is making me curious, even if I’ve never been into the series before.
At some point down the line I'll buy infinite wealth. Just too many games right now.
Only 3 reasons I'm holding off on buying Infinite Wealth: 1 - I have far too many games I am trying to get through right now, 2 - I have far too many Yakuza games I want to get through, and 3 - I have a good feeling it will hit Gamepass eventually like most Yakuza games have.
Nah none of these games are GOTY candidates. Yakuza is too overdone at this point. Each entry will impress newcomers but for old fans, it's just more of the same with each entry, even with the turn based evolution which still isn't that improved from its predecessor.
Palworld will probably be the most successful game this year but it's an open world survival multiplayer game. They don't normally win big awards.
@JayJ I should not have bought it for reasons 1, and somewhat 2 & 3. In Nov-Dec. MS points knocked $25 off of Inf. Wealth.
I completed Yak6 and Man With No Name. So starting Inf. Wealth is fine for continuity. I completed 1-3 and the first half of 4 over a decade ago.
