There's been a lot of talk over the past few days about the future of physical Xbox games, especially since it was reported that Microsoft had "shut down" some departments related to bringing physical Xbox games to market.
As things stand, there's no suggestion that physical Xbox games are going away anytime soon, but as time marches on and physical sales appear to be lessening, it makes sense that the speculation is beginning to ramp up.
So, for our weekend poll, we thought we'd take this opportunity to ask about your personal collection of physical Xbox games. We're interested to know whether you're pretty much all-digital these days, or whether you're still a fan of the physical format. And of course, we're curious about your OG Xbox / Xbox 360 collections as well!
Here at Pure Xbox, we've picked up a pretty large selection of original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles, but admittedly our Xbox One and Xbox Series S collection is much smaller. Are you in the same boat? Let us know down below.
How many physical Xbox games do you have in your collection? Vote in the polls and tell us in the comments!

I'm all digital since the 360 days. Only physical for delisted games.
I have many hundreds of physical OG Xbox and 360 games. I might have 25 physical Xbone and XSX games, mostly because I will leave a single player game for my wife to buy me and physical makes a better gift.
Choice is nice but I won't really miss physical obviously since I so rarely even use it. I went through this grieving almost 2 decades ago when Gaben normalized this, I can't believe consoles have held on this long to be honest.
As Series X is my first and I only got it for Fable 1 I use gamepass to try games then buy most physically for Switch.
The fact that the HD Twins have to install the disk rather than just play the disk means I don't buy many modern games.
Been moving to digital since 360 days, and fully digital since Xbox One launch. The few physical games I have left are the ones that are not available digitally. Currently sitting with 1123 installed digital games on my Series X.
unfortunately i sold all my physical xbox games to gamestop like a moron when the ps4 came out
Since I bought the series x in 2021 I bought 63 Xbox one/series, 18 360 and 5 OG. It is a shame Xbox is looking like it is moving in the digital only direction
Way to many physical OG Xbox and 360 games but only a handful of physical for Xbox one and Series X. Sadly since most titles are constantly updated or added to and the fact that games are mainly online there is no sane reason to buy physical anymore.
Easily got over a hundred in total but all due to the 360. Went mostly digital with Xbox One and have well over 700 owned games (i think) digitally on Xbox.
That said it does suck if they go fully digital because they will lose their presence on the high street completely. Also I like being able to put a 360 disc into my Series X if I like. But wouldn’t be able to going forward.
I wonder what the results would be if they did this same poll for the switch on NL?
I don't get many physical games nowadays ...I can find digital games cheaper now and it's more convenient having digital for sharing
Still it would be a sad day if they stopped making physical ..i still would buy a disc console given the option as I still rent games
This would mean zero advertising in stores! Even now you get huge Playstation an Nintendo sections and a gloomy little corner with an Xbox logo an a few games. I think if Xbox did this the gap between Xbox an Playstation sales will widen even further.
Only one, South Park on XOne 😃
Sold all of my 360 and Xbox One gen games over the past few years. Still hold all my Nintendo games though back to the GB colour gen…Xbox games don’t hold that same sentiment as Ninty ones do.
Digital is better I actually keep my games now since I'm digital because there's no way to get rid of sell it's just the way things are going haven't really bought physical games since the 360 days and as soon as digital became viable on 360 that was the way for me
Only about 10 physical games for Xbone, but easily 100+ for older consoles.
It's not that I prefer digital now, but I mainly play on PC, and don't want to get stuck with poorly-performing versions of my games.
The disc drive was a key factor in buying an X1S, and it's a crucial part of an XSX as well (which I just haven't bought yet because of its steep price).
Not to rile anyone up but I wouldn't care if xbox went all digital but I would if playstation do. I got the series x as a gamepass machine and to be fair I barely use it as that, lately I've used it more on steamdeck. I'm a little more interested because of indy etc but xbox really isn't doing it for me this gen...
I used to have a lot of 360 and some One games physical but have gone all digital since then.
@Kaloudz I agree with you but still don't think it's consumer friendly. Digital prices are still higher than physical (with zero resale value) and its only gonna get worse when we don't have a choice...
Think I've got 1 Xbox one game and a few 360 games lying about somewhere but I'm all digital now since I've only got the Series S and barely use it tbh only bought 3 games since i got it.
Elden Ring an Dead Island 2, Series X an Left for Dead Xbox 360 game. I buy most of my games on my PS5 as games often run better on it an the pads are better on Playstation.
If Xbox goes all digital I simply won't be buying another Xbox. Would be the absolute antithesis of their supposed want to preserve games. I still put disc drives in my PCs when I build them.
It is already bad enough that most of my 360 games aren't backwards compatible. The spooling down the BC program was one of the worst things they've done. Was hoping for much better support.
491 physical games across all xbox platforms. I would l Iike to keep it going. If they went 100% digital, which I doubt they are, I would buy all 3rd party games on other platforms.
Xbox is currently my preferred platform but I'm not married to it.
Since buying a Series X, I purchased two physical games - Far Cry 6 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
I'm only digital for Xbox and PC. I like having my physical games for PlayStation and Nintendo since those consoles have my favorite games and franchises, and since I already have Game Pass.
I honestly don't even use my Xbox anymore, I just use my PC, and I honestly wish I didn't get a Series S because I hate the lack of a disk drive. I will always prefer having the option of a disk drive.
So what I'm saying is, I hate Xbox and I hope Microsoft goes bankrupt.
I have been going mostly digital since the Xbox One. I have a few Xbox One and Series X games on discs, mainly cause either I found a good deal on them, or I wanted whatever preorder bonus came with it. When I got my Xbox One I was living in a small apartment at the time so I didn't have much room for stuff which is why I went digital. Now I seem to find better deals on games digitally then physical. Also, I don't have to run out to a store to get it.
Now my OG Xbox and 360 I have a good amount of discs mainly cause the OG Xbox didn't have digital games that I was aware of and with my 360 I was to much in the mindset at the time of preferring physical over digital for various reasons.
I'd rather Xbox division not give up on physical it's the place I'd rather play overall. If they give up on discs next generation okay, then go the route of cartridges then. If they don't then the message will be they don't care about preservation of our purchases. They may care about games living on but not customer ownership.
It seems the following forced this to happen:
1. GamePass and not buying games
2. Some Smart Delivery discs only having Xbox One versions of games.
3. Lastly the worst is most Series X only game discs not having a full playable build on a disc. This right here + missing on SD games killed disc sales. (I believe someone said it's Switch 50%, PS 40%, and Xbox 10% of physical sales currently).
It seems like it was planned after GamePass really took off. For me I really need to have an external disc drive option for all previous games for next generation hardware (if it's digital only) otherwise it will be a hard sell. I'll just put that new console cost towards a new graphics card for the PC where I can potentially own some games.
Today games like LaD: Infinite Wealth are keeping me in Xbox ecosystem with Xbox/PC support on 1 purchase cost. That's truly the only benefit currently for digital Xbox ecosystem games.
Yes it will be sad to not have physical games but it will be for the best. Its more cost-effective which can be used to fund the development of the games itself, not to mention how much more environmentally friendly it will be to not have unnecessary physical copies or store presence.
There really is no requirement for a disk these days except to use up shelf space for a piece of plastic. The nostalgic side in me will miss it, but I'm all for moving on to the future.
I have a lot of physical games on Xbox but wouldn't mind at all if Xbox went all digital. I'm already listening to all my music through Spotify and I'm watching all my movies/shows on services like Netflix and HBO so it makes sense for me to do the same with games in the future.
The only problem is that we aren't there yet with streaming games as Xbox cloud gaming still isn't good. If I can stream games without waiting in a bloody queue and with good quality, then I'm all for it.
I only play games that have a physical option, if it's digital only I won't play it.
@Kaloudz and I can't argue with that, it's just not how i want it to be 😀 tbh I'm 46 now and don't love how the industry is going. While I still really enjoy a gow or a decent open worlder I'm starting to appreciate retro gaming more and more especially systems like dreamcast and gamecube where I can upscale them to 4k and they look unbelievable. All this live service and online multiplayer stuff just doesn't appeal
Probably about 50 from the Xbox 360 era. Xbox One on I have maybe 3.
I have around 200 physical games across all 4 Xbox console generations. Only 5 of them are Series X games (Elden Ring, Far Cry 6, Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, & Resident Evil 4)
Most of my physical games are purchased on PS5 & Switch.
I prefer physical over digital but my Series X is mostly used for backwards compatible and Game Pass games. Hopefully Microsoft continues to release games on disc. But I'm sure they will be the first to go all cloud & digital sooner than later...
Xbox? Not that many. PlayStation? 21 ps5, 41 psp, 43 ps1, 66 psvita, 115 ps4, 169 ps2 and 432 ps3 games. 887 PlayStation games total (out of 1.395 physical games).
But TBF I only started collecting for xbox about 2 years ago.
I have like 4 Xbox 360 and no series games physical. Same with PlayStation 5. I still pick up switch games physical but that's because I hate using the Internet on that thing.
Well over 100 in total. 70+ 360 games, 26 Xbox One/Series X games. Digitally I probably own a further 25-30 total. Digital games were fun until I realised how quickly they filled my storage. The change to discs being lisences meant I bought less physical games next gen.
I prefer how Switch does it, they force companies to keep game sizes realistic instead of endlessly chasing graphics, which means it can fit on a cartridge.
If I'm playing digital I want the ability to back my games and saves up to a Physical storage device without worrying about DRM - A service I can only get on PC either by BREAKING the DRM by force or buying from GOG.
I’ve got a hand full of Xbox one games but loads of OG and 360 games. But that’s also because I feel like the games were better in general for those older systems and more to choose from
People you will own nothing and be happy .1 if you get banned you lose everything .2 games can be removed even if you own the digital version 3 digital no value at least you can sell physical games .
@cornholio005 exactly
I am a Switch and a "Special edition on Playstation" Collector, I bought My series S since I never care about collecting Xbox games, when I upgraded to the series X I did it only for the more horsepower. Eventually I ended up gettin some Physical Games for it (Transformers devastation, and Forza Horizon 3 since both are delisted, and Shadows of the damned, Dantes Inferno and Spec Ops the line because are masterpieces and playing on my Xbox with the enhancements is a bliss) but I do not Intend to buy more (except for Hi-Fi Rush.... hoping for a Physical release on switch)
During the 360 era, I bought 100+ physical discs. About 15-20 PS3 discs. On XB1, that number drops to 10 or so. For Series X, I've bought 4 discs. Each has wound up on Game Pass. On PC, well, I have hundreds of digital games dating back over a decade.
Virtually all of my physical games are boxed up and stowed away.
I always prefer physical when it's an option (and not a super expensive limited edition), so even with my Series X being my first ever Xbox, I have amassed something like 40 physical games.
One thing I hate about digital games is that you can't really get rid of them. You can uninstall and hide them but they're still there taking up some space in your world.
I’m nearly all digital nowadays. As much as I’d like to think physical has a place for game preservation I think 5-10 years from now it’ll be virtually all digital and a decade or so after that it’ll be the same for streaming. I didn’t see that coming 10 years ago when I had a bookshelf full of 360 games.
I have not bought a physical disk since 2018.
I probably have about 100-150. But the vast majority have already been replaced with digital. Most too worthless to trade in or sell but gotta get rid of them at some point.
I’m probably 95% digital with new purchases. Usually only buy physical if there’s some great deal on it. I think it would be ashame if they discontinued physical because I understand collectors and those who just want a real disc.
But let’s face it, nearly every game has a day one patch these days so you will never own the “full” game on disc.
I’ve owned several hundred physical Xbox games, but got rid of most of them since deciding on going all digital back in 2017.
I’ve kept some of them though, like a bunch of non-BC Xbox 360 titles, and a some Xbox One games that aren’t available digitally anymore, like TMNT Mutants in Manhattan and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
@darkswabber that's a nice wee collection you got going, pretty sweet 👍
No Xbox physical games at all but that said I only have a Series S. Not that I buy much physical games of new games anyway. The only games I have for my PS5, for example, are Final Fantasy games.
100% digital since 2016, and I've sold off what I had for physical games long ago and then repurchased them digitally. It's just so damn convenient.
This vote misses the point. I don’t want physical to keep most of the time, I want physical to sell on and enable me to buy more games.
In terms of numbers of Xbox discs I own maybe 1-10. But I have bought hundreds of Xbox discs over the years.
0
don't see the point of discs anymore since the digital dl capabilities isn't ever going anywhere from microsoft or apple, the two biggest companies in the world
Jesus bless you all!
I have a ton of OG and 360 Xbox games, hardly bought any for the Xbox One (only bought them early on when the console launched really) and I haven't bought any physical games for Series X.
I am over physical media for the most part, it lost it's purpose when they made you install all the data and started relying upon online updates. Became a physical version of DRM IMO.
The biggest disadvantage of digital-only game is that when it is delisted and you have not owned the game, it will dissapear forever from the store. Also if you've got lost access to your account, your game will dissapear forever
I’ve got maybe a dozen? Most of them are old 360 games. I’ve got Eternal Sonata, Dragon Ball Z Budokai, Guitar Hero, DDR, you know? Some of that. On Xbone, a Japanese copy of Puyo Puyo Tetris, Ori Collector’s, Megaman Legacy, a few other things. Not much stuff though. I would trade in games mostly during those two generations. I only keep my collections with Nintendo consoles for some reason.
I prefer digital when I can, but there's a ton of delisted 360 stuff I plan to get physical. A lot of licensed stuff like LOTR War in the North, and a lot and I mean A LOT of very specific Kinect games.
Xbox og: 15
Xbox 360: 81
Xbox one: 59
Xbox series X|S: 0
Hundreds from the OG and 360 era. About 50-60 for the Xbox One and 0 for the Series X.
I have a mix of physical and digital. I prefer physical, especially if I can get them really cheap, which for Xbox One games is currently very easy. I can pick up great games for a few pounds, often far cheaper than the digital copy, even when it’s on sale. As someone who has been playing games since the late 80s I have really learnt to appreciate being able to still access the games I loved as a kid and play them today, often with my own kids. In an ideal world the same would happen with a game tied to a digital account, but I think it is quite naive to think that will be the case in the future. I don’t mind buying digital games for the convenience but I always do so on the knowledge that one day I won’t be able to access them. Yes, physical media can break (nothing lasts forever) but with proper care that can be put off for a very long time. I have Mega Drive Cartridges from over 30 years ago. Them and my original console are still going strong.
Everything I can get physical, I get. I'm waiting right now for my Tekken 8 copy, for example. And I know : I would already play it if I had gone the digital way.
But I buy digital, too, from time to time. When there's sales on the Xbox store, sales so good that you just can't say no...
But it's inevitable, I know. For the Xbox brand, at least. The gamepass model just accelerated the process. I give Sony one more generation before the all digital era. Xbox, it's gonna be their next console, that's a given.
I'm always physical where possible. Saying that, if it's only available digitally, I get it when on a good sale. I also enjoy Gamepass and keep my subscription for that going too. Regardless of your preferences, it's terribly sad when you don't have a choice, with digital being the only option soon and Xbox at the forefront of this.
With all the advances in technology digital only comes at a steep price.
The days of getting a new game, looking through the manual, displaying the box or even trading it in later down the line, are coming to an end...
Switch is the only system worth collecting games physically anymore. A disk with a key is barely any better than a digital purchase.
I’m almost entirely digital. My one physical copy Series X game is AC: Valhalla. I just find see the point in physical for Xbox & PS these days. They’re just glorified DRM tools and you rarely get the actually full game on the disc.
I used have a bunch of 360 physical games but even then I welcomed being able to download some indies from the marketplace.
Series S is my first xbox machine, so I'm all digital there
I own a couple dozen ps4 games and maybe a dozen switch. Only 1 physical ps5 game. A handful for other legacy platforms
I do still value physical games, especially getting them from my library to see if they are something I want to buy
Like many have posted, I have traded in or donated so many games over the years since the early days of ps2 and pc
Between all Xbox generations, I have about 600 physical games, all complete in box as well. If I include digital, I have over 1100. Most of my digital games are from games with gold and the ones that are not, a good amount of them are duplicates of my physical games.
None, no point in it for us.
I don't mind a mix of the two, depending on the game, but my main issue with all digital is that you don't really own the increasingly expensive to buy games. You are entirely at the mercy of any changes to the game a company wants to inflict on players whether they want said changes or not. Starfield is a recent example. Some players enjoy glitches and/or exploits as part of their individual gaming experience and some do not. That is fine. To each their own. However, when glitches/exploits are removed in subsequent patches, there is no way to revert a digital game back to it's original unpatched state the way you can if you own the game on disc. Ultimately, if we are paying $70 and up for current video games, and we no longer have the ability to individually play these games in their original unpatched state - the way we were able to do with Fallout 4, Skyrim, No Man's Sky, etc. - by simply reinstalling them from the disc, then we have vastly overpaid for the illusion of ownership rather than the real thing. Therefore, be careful what you wish for, because when you get it, it may not actually be what it seems...
A few 100 OG Xbox and Xbox 360 games but also about a 100 XBLA games. I hope we still get to have a choice! I don’t mind putting a disc in and I like a real box in the collection. But pricing is the most important one tbh. The thing I’m afraid of is the fact games stop working or devs can easily remove your game from existence. I do enjoy playing on older consoles where games keep existing. I’m certainly not sold on buying a digital only box … but it will happen, I’m sure!
I've been all digital since the middle of the 360 gen. I love the convenience and having my whole library on one device. I re bought a few 360 games for super cheap on the digital store that I had physical and sold those. No clutter! All my movies and music have been digital too for years now. Maybe I'm part of the problem but it's just way better for me! I've saved way more buying digital games or using subscription like EA Play also.
I like to have both options but with Brooklin releasing this year it shows us that physical is not going to be an option in the future.
So with everything going down the all digital route I thought I would be better off joining the PCMR and sell my consoles. I just don't have to pay much for my games and can still play both Xbox and PS titles at better frame rates and graphics.
Definitely a win win I think.
They would drop me even more into Sonys arms than I already am. Come on Microsoft, suck even more, maybe I'll sell my Series X some day.
Going all digital might sound good and it really convenient but people are going to find out that you don’t own anything and a few are going to be not so happy all digital content can be taken away in a blink of a eye.going all digital I think is a mistake only reason Microsoft want this is 💵💵💵 cause it will save a pile for THEM
OG Xbox starting again so around what PGR1&2, Voodoo Vince, Star Wars Battlefront 1, Jedi Outcast, Episode 3 (none of what I originally had for the console other than Voodoo Vince). I think we had around 11 (or confusing it with my first 11 360 games I may). I don't remember all my OG Xbox games when I used to own the console and games now they are OG Xbox back compat for 360 or Xbox One specific. I don't own the console yet so back compat lists I must meet.
360 and PS3 is under my PS4 of how much I have of largest console library so under a 100 or around a 100. As PS4 is 100+. I haven't counted them in a while and bought a few for 360 since so I might as well say 101+ as it will get that way in the future or is now without me knowing about it.
Xbox One last I checked was around 30 something.
I bought Playlink for PS4 titles, 2 of them, both party games you use your smartphone with (because I like gimmick nonsense). I have the Android APKs from dead APK hosting sources. Is it a waste of time yeah but I know where to look/what to do and if they don't work a fair novelty I've done my research on anyways. Like Eye Toy, Move, PSVR before or after it.
HiFi Rush or Hellblade are buy a console worthy in my mind. I'm not into Hellblade, was into Ninja Theory's past games though love them, (camera angle/combat isn't my thing in Ryse or God of War either). But as not available physical nope.
My Wii, Wii U, PS1, DS, PSP, Vita, 3DS all vary in the 15-30s range. PS2 may be 30s-40s. GameCube at 1 (Wave Race Blue Storm and a broken Double Dash disk that hasn't worked yay), and rest is Wii support for the controller. N64 at 2.
Switch at 12 I think (I hate digital codes but did for Drawn To Life Two Realms as it's either that or mobile/PC, but otherwise I look at every code mentioned game box, grr).
I don't use Gamepass or sub to anything, so am I really an Xbox user if I'm not what Microsoft wants me to be. XD Just a back compat, blu-ray/cd player user of an Xbox One. Besides the odd Xbox One games I play on it and still have in my backlog I jump to on occasion besides listening to music on Soundcloud not Spotify Sony.
I like my app choice/service choice on Xbox. I barely use the store on Windows (pick and choose or gave up as web apps instead) but on Xbox I pick and choose a few I need and the rest skip.
So yeah while not 'a lot' in a large collecting sense I still care about physical a lot, selling, buying, second hand, first hand. I buy 360 games from time to time. I don't Xbox One as much but had a few. I take pride in my Demon Turf smart delivery physical copy then a digital for all the other platforms as Xbox is the only platform it was physical on.
Other than Demon Turf, Project Cars 3 and others for smart delivery as I use Xbox One, sure family use the Series X on occasion and Gamepass/Cloud streaming to a Samsung TV I don't. So JB HiFi in my local area (still on website) has no Xbox section.
My 1.0 Valkyria Chronicles 4 copy as probably my only 1.0 Xbox One game the rest are Vita, Switch or PS4 if not PS3 and the updates I don't install (downloads not hard drive forced installs are what they are).
If the adorably digital Xbox Series X materializes, I won’t be buying another Xbox console. PC and Switch 2 will be better.
@Gonzo_Me GOG* has been pretty good with that sort of thing, though I've rarely needed to roll back any updates. Which brings up a related point: this issue, along with the lack of ownership, isn't inherently tied to digital games in theory... but it tends to be associated with it in practice.
That is, you can own DRM-free digital games with the same permanence as physical games, but most companies don't want to let you, which leaves physical games as a way for the customer to take back some control.
*EDIT: GOG is a popular store for DRM-free PC games.
I have about 10 physical games I think. All ones I got very cheap second hand. I got out of console gaming after my PS3 died, and didn't get back in until the One S, and since then I've been digital first for sure (especially with Game Pass).
I've expressed my opinions on here before that the physical releases have been rendered useless as games are tied to their servers and updates so you don't really have the game on your shelf any more. You have all the disadvantages of physical (takes up space, can be lost, need to swap discs), but almost none of the advantages besides marginal resale value, and lending to a friend.
About 150 Xbox 360 games on the shelf, but only around 30 for the One/Series. Have been expanding the 360 games whilst they're quite cheap at the moment.
Am basically happy to dip in and out of gamepass for the modern stuff, or wish list games en masse and keep an eye on the sales emails whilst playing the backlog.
Can tolerate digital but needs to be marked down to where I'm happy knowing I could lose it someday...
The only physical discs I have are back compat games that are no longer available digitalyl like early forza horizons or were never available digitally like that one Batman Arkham game (Origins?) that wasn’t made by Rocksteady. Other than that I have 700+ digital games somehow all bought in sales.
I have about 30 or so 360 games that are backwards compatible but admittedly since the Xbox One launched I only have a small handful like 5 but at that point I mainly got stuff on PS4 physically. Since Gamepass launched I haven't picked up a single physical Xbox game as I usually only done that for the system exclusives and since they are already a part of Gamepass I don't feel the need currently while I am subscribed.
Xbox is my Gamepass console. Don't need disks.
Playstation I have the digital console which is perfect for playing with PS Portal.
Switch I buy physical for big games but most are digital.
I have well over 1000 physical games at this point. I would estimate roughly 500 are Xbox games. Put many into storage as just don’t play them and they take up a lot of space. I have been almost 100% digital for like the last 4-5 years. Just more convenient and the not taking up space is a huge perk for me. I have way way too much physical media as is. The last thing I need is more.
I use gamepass so my physical xbox collection is very small. But honestly I think if I am still buying new systems after this gen, I am going all digital. Easier to buy, and way easer to move.
@XboxistheBestBox
Completely different architectures. The 360 BC we have now is entirely emulation. It would make sense to support the entire OG Xbox library though. Pisses me off some OG Xbox games that were actually BC on 360 didn't carry over to the BC we have now. Capcom remastered the PS2 version of Onimusha instead of the Xbox versions with all the enhancements. Ridiculous
@Balta666
“It is a shame Xbox is looking like it is moving in the digital only direction.”
I think it’s more accurate to say, it’s a shame nobody is buying physical anymore. Can’t blame companies for following market trends. I saw some figures for the month of Black Friday and digital absolutely destroyed physical. It was like 95% digital, 5% physical. I would hate to see physical go away; but with numbers like that, and physical sales continuing to plummet year after year, I can’t blame any of the companies at this point for starting to go in an all digital direction.
Had 419 boxed Xbox games across 4 platforms. Been Xbox supporter since 2001 but can do that no longer. Sold my 5 consoles and games Saturday. Bring on Switch 2 and maybe a PS5 in the near future.
@RIghteousNixon it is correct to say that the whole community is going more digital every year and Xbox costumers are more than average. But it is on Microsoft to choose not to sell physical copies of their major games (like hellblade 2 for instance)
Zero. Waste of space and plastic IMO. everything else is moving towards digital, as much as people wanna kick and scream about it Agent Smith said it best, "That is the sound of inevitability."
@Balta666
Of course it’s their choice, but it’s a choice made out of simple market conditions. Catering to physical purchasers when they make up a tiny portion of overall game sales, and getting smaller and smaller each year, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in the long term. Physical is going away and its only a matter of time before every gaming company goes all digital and when all is said and done, it won’t have been the companies themselves that dictated the switch, it will have been the consumers and the choices they have made that is responsible.
If everyone was still buying physical, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion and companies like MS wouldn’t even be contemplating an all digital future. It’s the choices of gamers themselves that have led us here
Although, I stopped buying physical media since the inseption of xbox one s era, I keep my "Xbox" + "Xbox 360 - Halo Reach Limited Edition" and "Xbox One S - 1 TB - Fifa17 Bundle" consoles with about 50 physical (box) games, which I will never sell.
So... Nobody can accuse me as being "all on digital person"
I am very happy with the consoles and physical games I got.
But, the very reason which stopped me (since the very beginning) buying Xbox Series X, is the disk drive which I do not need at all... I stayed a gamepass ultimate member more than 3 years and I always (patiently) waited for digital version of Xbox Series X. I was totally sold on hardware capabilities of Xbox Series X, but I do not want to (unnecessarly) pay more for the disk drive.
My game pass ultimate membership expired and I do not plan to extend it.
So... we part ways...
I am happy with my pc, which I do not need to spend any extra money for multiplayer functions.
I do not like to be forced to buy membership for multiplayer functions.
Microp-soft needs to declare that they found a good & permanent solution for existing physical media(s) for future (disk driveless) consoles.
With some kind of method, gamers may be allowed to register their physical games to their own account.
I still remember those codes in 360 games for online access. It's funny. The studios wanted to kill the resale market all these years, but they don't have the balls to pull the plug on physical right away in spite of so many games not even functioning without servers or patches now.
the thing is this isn’t just xbox as well, there is more digital purchases across all platforms.
