We've been waiting over a decade for an Xbox release, but it's finally almost time! Final Fantasy 14 will be coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the near future, with the Open Beta now officially set to begin in February 2024.
During a recent Fan Festival in Tokyo, it was actually suggested that February 21st, 2024 might be the start date of this Open Beta on Xbox, although plans can change and it could be slightly earlier or later than that.
As it's a beta, we're assuming all Xbox players will be invited to try Final Fantasy 14 for free this February, after which the full launch is scheduled for "Spring 2024" and will likely be a paid release with a free trial option - just like on PS5.
It's great timing for an Xbox version as well, as the game has just surpassed 30 million registered players, and is currently preparing to launch its fifth expansion pack called "Dawntrail" in Summer 2024, adding a whole bunch of new features. You can check out the trailer for Dawntrail above, and we'll throw more details about the base game below.
"Take part in an epic and ever-changing FINAL FANTASY. Experience all the hallmarks of the best-selling franchise - an unforgettable story, exhilarating battles, and a myriad of diverse and captivating environments to explore.
Party up with friends or play solo! Experience all the main story dungeons on your own by calling upon NPC allies to fight by your side."

The trial I believe is the entire base game and perhaps Heavensward (first expansion) now. It has changed a few times.
I have this on Steam and PS5 but will be all in on Xbox and perhaps will finally push through Heavensward and continue to the other expansions. They are just so long!
You’re in for a treat, Xbox players. It lacks all the F2P trappings games like PSO2 use. There is an online store so you can level skip to miss the first part of the story or buy some cosmetics but it’s on a web page and not accessible in-game.
The base game includes the Heavensward expansion. The rest are extra and include a few classes.
I really wish Microsoft would use Azure to back it up so you can stream it on any platform.
@Kaloudz The free trial is being expanded to also include the second expansion, Stormblood. I'm not sure when that is happening but the base game and Heavenward is a pretty sizeable amount of content. They did streamline the base ARR main story to remove a lot of filler when the last expansion released and I haven't played through the streamlined story bit it should still be fairly sizable.
I also wish the article explained all that. I think that I will have more free time this year than last year, so perhaps it's time to finally check it out on Series X!
@Kaloudz I mean i clocked something like 400 hours on the base game plus a bit of Heavensward….
HowLongToBeat averages it at 244 hours haha. But of course people idle etc.
A game from 2010 no thanks
Does Bradley Cooper know he's in a video game?! 😅
@Dan1283 A comment from 2010, no thanks.
Probably just going to stick to ESO at this point but I may try it if there is a free trial.
This is good news for my XBOX fam. I started FFXIV at the launch of ARR on PC in September of 2013. Maybe that was the beta? Anyway, from there I played it on PS4 Pro, and now on my PS5. All this to say that FFXIV plays great on console. It works with mouse and keyboard as well as controller. I personally use one of the MMO mouse (mice?) with 12 button side pad. Also, all players can play together whether on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.
