It's safe to say Xbox's latest Developer Direct showcase was a huge success, with the official reveal of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as well as many other exciting upcoming projects.
Microsoft's Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has always shown a lot of support for Xbox's studios as well, and sure enough after the latest broadcast, he's taken to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to not only praise the teams involved but also compliment the format of the event. Here's exactly what he had to say:
Phil Spencer: "Thanks to the team and the studios for their work on the show today. It's always fun to get to highlight some of what's coming in the next year. I really like the format of #DeveloperDirect shows, creators showing their games. Nice way to start 2024."
Apart from Indiana Jones, the other games featured during the latest showcase included Ara: History Untold, Avowed, Visions of Mana and Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.
Xbox's Aaron Greenberg also complimented the show in a brief message on social media:
Aaron Greenberg: "Hope you enjoyed our second Developer_Direct. A lot of time & passion went into this. Great way to kick off 2024 with some of the great games coming to Xbox & PC. Everything we announced today from our 4 studios & surprise guest Square Enix."
Although Microsoft and Xbox didn't necessarily pioneer video game showcases, they've helped popularise this model with their own broadcasts over the years. These types of shows also obviously continue to be a fantastic insight into the inner workings of some of Xbox's best studios and third-party partners.

The format of all their shows is awesome now. Developer Direct gives you a behind the scenes look told by the devs and the showcases are just games and nothing else with optional deep dives after the fact. Just perfect
No long Phil speech for no reason, no youtuber hosts, just games and game creators. Pretty great format.
(I don't dislike the Phil speechs of the summer shows. Its nice to hear from the leader but it doesnt always feel necessary. He says very little but takes 5-10 minutes to do so. Were excited to be here, excited to show you games, excited for the future, etc., etc., etc.)
I agree with Phil. The format is excellent.
I absolutely love this format. It gives a little bit of insight into who worked on the game and their thoughts going into the game. And while doing that, it just shows a lot of respect to these people and their hard work.
It feels like a garnished meal in a dining restaurant, compared to a quick sushi break in a sushi bar that is the Nintendo Direct.
I really liked it but it needs to be more frequent.
At least bi-monthly.
They have the pipeline to support it and June is too far to be the next show.
Loved this format last year and this year, long may it continue. Games and the devs that make them.
Were there no surprises or shadow drops???
@OrfeasDourvas I think there will be an ABK specific presentation before the June showcase.
But yea once ABK are fully integrated and we get into the groove a bit, I can see these Developer_Directs becoming more frequent. Even if only twice a year.
Funny if they did a Developer_Direct on ABK and each of the 4 studios they went to was just working on COD. 😅 and then a surprise 5th studio is also working on COD.
The format was great, more of this please in the future ,no more phil Spencer or any other exec on stage ,awkwardly Introducing games.
Still nothing gears related very disappointed by that
I like the format and the stuff shown, was a teeny-bit disappointed there was nothing to play 'now'. I know we can't have an awesome shadow drop every time, but it would have been nice to finish on something being released 'after the show' just so it doesn't feel like such a wait to play something new! But otherwise it was all good stuff!
They told everyone the four games that were being shown. And still there is disappointment 🤣
It was a good show for sure. Hellblade and Indy look excellent! Still not really feeling Avowed personally and the other one is just not my style at all so I just kind of checked out during that part. Still two out the five are right up my alley! Can't be upset about that. Good stuff.
The format of the show is great, but it has to be expensive and very time consuming to make these. I understand why they can only do this once a year. I love how personalized each part is, each studio's presentation is somewhat different.
The only hit I can give the show this year is a lack of release dates, only one. But I guess that first party output is low in the first half of the year, so not much they could really do about that.
@Deljo
No shadow drops but they did have a surprise Square Enix Visions of Mana game coming first to XB.
What I love most about these DD's is that it is told by the people behind the game about what what they are trying to achieve in the games.
I am sure marketing helped the studios with their segments but it just seemed as though everything was genuinely from the devt studios with no "Pre-order now", "special edition controllers", no celebrity guests, etc. Just information about the games from the studios making them. I prefer this to all other shows.
@xanderten50 amd me, I was hoping a shadow drop was their thing. At the very least I thought there might be a few abk games thrown onto gamepass. Still a decent format and finally some interesting exclusives
It was one game to the next, no intervals of a man in a suit rambling on for 10 minutes. I often don’t watch these live so i can skip to the good bits. I watched this one live an it was spot on! 85% games, 15% talkin.
