Re: Microsoft Announces Price Increases For Xbox Series X And Xbox Game Pass

Darylb88

MS is just increasing the Series X prices in those certain markets to match the PS5 so I don't see a huge issue there. They can't keeping making the same loss while other manufactures increase prices. MS held out for as long as possible so I won't be mad paying an extra £30 for a Series X.

Gamepass prices are increasing but when you look at the stacked AAA games coming from Sept this year into 2024 and beyond the extra £1/$2 is not a huge deal.

Phil Spencer did warn prices may need to increase I am pretty sure I sure that article on here so I cannot say I am surprised at all. I feel sorry for anyone who is/or easily upset by the harsh reality of economics .

Re: The Xbox Series X Is Basically A 'Mid-Gen' Console Already, Suggests Old Microsoft Comment

Darylb88

This is just a guess but I think Sony thought that the Series S was MS's next gen console - and their orignal PS5 was the all digital version with a lower TFLOP.

At some point they must have found out that Xbox also planned to release a 12TFLOP disc based machine then scrambled to slap a disc drive on the side and increase the TFLOP (although still 2 TFLOPS short so you wonder if thier orignal PS5 was maybe around 6 TFLOPS.

Both businesses know what they are doing, and If MS don't jump Sony won't and visa versa.

Re: Digital Foundry Posts Huge Breakdown On Why Starfield Runs At 30FPS On Xbox

Darylb88

Good see see a video with people who understand the technology and its limitations in a realistic way.

What I usually see online are trolls who know little to nothing on the subject yet act like they are an expert on game engine design and development.

Tod Howard made a creative choice on how to use resource and you can either get on board with it or you can't, but it is what it is and it's not going to change.

I do sympathise with those that have medical conditions where they require higher frames and/or cannot afford a PC that can run the game at higher frame rates.

I am excited to play this game on my Series S, or Series X if I decide it is worth the upgrade (I don't have a 4K TV at the moment).

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

Darylb88

I have a Series S now with an expansion storage card which I have had since launch and the console has held up pretty well for me so far.

I'm predominantly a 30fps gamer because I favour resolution based on my PS4 Pro days to the point that even on my PS5 if there is a higher res/RT 30fps option like Hogwarts legacy or Spiderman option I take it. Even the recent FF16 demo I was like yeah I'm going for 30fps after seeing the 60fps mode.

I think if the game is a smooth 30fps at 1440p consistently then I might hold off upgrading to the Series X until next year.

I will add I don't play online or in any completive way where 60+ fps might benefit me and I understand some may need to play at higher frames due to eye conditions.

Re: Starfield Will Run At 4K / 30FPS On Xbox Series X, 1440p / 30FPS On Series S

Darylb88

I got a full explantion for 30fps:

Source on twitter: @Doctor_Cupcakes

"Astonishing story emerging today from Bethesda sources that Todd Howard demanded the development team prioritise sandwiches over frames. “Another! Another!” he demanded as the FPS tumbled from a smooth 60 to a mere 30. “Panini over performance” became a motto among the team."

Shocked that Pure Xbox did not report this.

Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

Darylb88

DGC would be saying nothing about this if his main console was an Xbox and not a PS5.

Dev is correct to say that the choice to prioritise 30fps and better complex gaming systems/visual fidelity doesn't mean an unfinished game.

RDR2 is also the same, which is why it isn't easy for them to just put a 60fps mode on XSX and PS5. There are a lot of complex systems at play. If they could do a 60fps T2 would be all over that cash grab.

It's very unfair to call a devs lazy just because they made a creative choice on how to use the limited console hardware. The hardware was already weaker than a lot of high end PC's when it launched nearly 3 years ago and consoles are a budget friendly way to get into gaming. If I want 60fps + with 4K and complex systems on AAA games I got to have a high end PC which would cost a lot more. I understand some players can't play at 30fps due to eye issues and I feel sorry for them as it means they have to invest a lot more into their hobby.

Re: Where To Pre-Order The All-New 1TB Black Xbox Series S

Darylb88

@FatalBubbles I mean for me it was an £230 saving (Series X mostly now sold at £480 bundle in the UK) I already have a PS5 and switch, the £250 one is more value for sure if you don't mind the lower storage but the £180 saving (£300 version) for the 1TB is still decent if you just want a cheaper way to play games like Starfield and the other upcoming gamepass games and exclusives.

Re: The Xbox Series X Doesn't Need A Major Upgrade Right Now, Suggests Phil Spencer

Darylb88

I think developers need to learn how to get the best and really push the Series X and PS5 before upgrades happen. Some studios are starting to get there now but honestly It could be another couple of years before we really see what a Series X can do.

You have to wonder if Xbox does not do an Series X upgrade in 2024 that PS may quietly scrap thiers to save money on something which they will have to mass produce at a loss.

2023 Sony gives me that kind of vibe of just doing the bare minimum now because they will make good profits without taking too many risks. They can run off of old IP, Wolverine and some GaaS games.

Re: Poll: Are You Interested In Buying The Black Xbox Series S?

Darylb88

Like most people here I already own an current gen Xbox - For me I have the launch Series S which has served me well with an expansion card but this is the year I will prob upgrade to a Series X. The version seems like a good sell for PS or Switch owners who want a cheaper Xbox with some decent storage.
