I was always of the opinion that this game didn't need a remaster (fallout 3 and morrowind do) and I still kind of feel that way. It does look better and play slightly better but it's still very much the same. If you played it already and didn't love it then, I doubt you will now either. Great for newcomers and maybe people who really love the original like me.
You had me worried for a second. I thought they were not including the dlc with the base version. That would have been a gross thing to do on a 20 year remaster.
Since it is only skins/soundtracks etc. I can easily pass on this.
Downloading it now. I just replayed it for probably the 5th time like a year and a half ago. The presentation didn't blow me away with the upgrades but it will probably end up being another full playthrough.
It is neck and neck with Skyrim for my favorite game of all time so I figure I better run through it again.
@ZuneTattooGuy played both games and loved them but it's definitely an unknown quality. We dont even know if it will have dlc at this point other than it is currently planning to. I love ID but there is no chance I blindly purchase something with zero details. Halo infinite, and redfall were planning on campaign dlc too, starflied dlc was poorly recieved. Those are some of my favorite studios too, misses happen. If you want to blindly support something that doesn't currently exist by all means go ahead. It's a complete unknown at this point.
Even if you don't think ID is capable of missing, they report to bethesda which reports to xbox which reports to Microsoft which reports to shareholders. There are infinite ways that this can be screwed up.
I'm glad they don't lock games behind the subscription like the crooks at Nintendo. They had a good thing going with Virtual Console. It's no wonder pirating Nintendo games is so popular.
I don't plan on playing this unless it changes to free or is part of gamepass. Odds are neither of those happen. Extraction shooters don't do it for me and I certainly don't want to pay $40 to see if this is the one that somehow overcomes that. I am also not a very big Bungie fan in general. I'm staying far away from this one.
I could see them waiting for the new consoles to raise the price. They could potentially have Series S,X, Handheld, new console, and xbox branded 3rd party systems on sale at the same time covering lots of different price ranges.
It shouldn't be seen as deceiving since many, many games shutdown like this and they have a disclaimer but I do think people have the right to complain about the shutdown.
That lawsuit will go nowhere if it hasn't already been thrown out. The only recourse is to boycott their other games, post bad reviews, tweets, etc.
I will have to see the extent of the remaster/remake. I just replayed it a year ago (for like the 5th time) so I am probably good on another run for awhile unless it is a jawdropping upgrade, which i doubt.
Charging $10 for what they are calling "nintendo switch 2 welcome tour" might be the most out of touch moment in gaming history. If there is actually substance to this "game" instead of the pixel counter or rumble demonstration that was shown then definitely show that instead.
And call it something else, it sure sounds like they are charging you for the tutorial you would see when booting something like a phone for the first time. Maybe that is all they are doing, it is Nintendo after all.
Playstation basically gave a 3 hour game on par with any 3d mario for free as their ps5 tech demo.
@StonyKL if it is fully pc based it would essentially be a pre-built which is pretty popular for those who don't want to put a machine together. Designing one as a "console experience" would have some appeal. From Microsofts perspective buying a different pc that is still windows based would be similar to buying their xbox pc. It would still require a windows key be purchased so it really wouldnt be that much of a loss if you opted for a different windows based machine. I imagine theirs will have an xbox UI out of the box that will make this more controller friendly than straight windows.
But it's important to realize that microsoft isn't trying to make an Xbox that will outsell every other platform. If you choose a different pc they say "great! Thanks for choosing windows. Have you tried pc gamepass, the hit new Xbox games, or any of the other microsoft products like office, teams, etc.?"
Consoles have been due for an overhaul for years now. Hopefully xbox can shake things up. I believe the pc "console" revolution is happening regardless of what the big 3 do but I believe that xbox can be a leader in it with the biggest pc operating system and experience of designing a console UI around controllers.
I am sure the steam console will work great and lenovo, asus, etc will make their own. Microsoft can really deliver with a windows designed for this but xbox needs to be in control of that project. Office 365, teams, outlook, etc have no place in a handheld or home console pc.
Like all nintendo systems, there will be much better places to play 3rd party games (pretty much anywhere else will be better). It comes down to how badly you want to play the exclusives. There is nothing about the switch 2 that makes me think I need one at launch. Maybe year 2 or 3 I will see a lineup of games that makes me want to jump in but I think I'm going to wait and see.
I was really into the switch 1 in it's first few years but my nostalgia is satiated for the time being and don't really feel the need to play anything nintendo has to offer, especially at these prices. For now, it's a pass for me too.
@Tasuki i don't think the wii u sold poorly because people got confused. I think they just had the impossible task of convincing the most casual players ever to buy another system that was just a slightly better version of the same thing. They did the impossible task of getting non gamers like people in old folks homes to buy a videogame console but there was 0% chance of people like that buying the followup no matter what they did.
The switch will have a similar issue but to a lesser extent. A ton of these ultra casuals are just not going to be interested because buying the first one was such an out of character purchase to begin with.
I am not at all impressed with the switch 2 reveal, especially at this price. I will probably end up with it because I buy all platforms but so far I'm not liking what I'm seeing.
That's gross and they refuse to mark down games. They will expect you to pay $80 when the games are 5+ years old. I'm on the fence for the switch 2 and this might sway me away from it.
At least with xbox, pc, etc you can expect substantial discounts after it's been on the market for a bit.
Depends what we consider xbox news. An xbox port or two to the switch 2 isn't really my definition of xbox news but I'm sure we will see plenty of articles about it from xbox sites. There will probably be a few 3rd party titles that warrant a "this is also on xbox" update but nothing major.
I'm sure the early years of the switch 2 will be catching up on 3rd party titles that couldn't run on the og. Similar to how borderlands and bioshock got significant time at a direct when they got ported even though they were like 10 years old. This direct will probably have a lot of those type of annoucements (RE4 remake, etc)
I wonder what the weight of this handheld is. The original Rog ally is remarkably lightweight but still feels nice. Hopefully this one has a better battery though.
It will most likely come down to if you gel with the new heavy play style. Just like how Doom Eternal had a few detractors who didn't like the platforming style but was overall very well received.
It probably isn't a good strategy to just drop everything in at once even if it was possible. Dropping that many big games would eat into anything else releasing around it. A slow drip is better (they seem to be at or around 1 game per month).
They probably learned a lot from the data after the bethesda drop. I imagine there were plenty of games in that drop that attracted very few players because people went straight to the big ones. They would have gotten more out each game if they spaced out the releases.
The classic COD games in game pass presents its own problem too unless it is a single collection and/or rolled into the current Duty app. They don't want the current COD community to break up into like a dozen different games. It would be a mess as a consumer too to keep track of which ones your squad wants to play or which ones have the most players. Downloading all my favorite cod games and managing those installs sounds like a nightmare.
It was flat out free to keep on epic games store last year too.
I would like to see xbox put it's games on Epic and GOG like playstation does. Those are some pretty big storefronts to skip when your messaging is play anywhere. (GOG would obviously take a change in DRM policy)
Occasionally. It's a great game for my 5 year old nephew that loves anything with a motor. He loves using my steering wheel and driving on everything but the road.
I would rather play console games on disc. Hopefully they keep offering a way to buy and play them. If not, then I would be much more likely to purchase my games on pc where the digital stores have to compete with each other plus have sites with cheaper keys.
@dskatter didnt xbox share that gamepass only makes up like 20% of their revenue and they dont expect it to ever be more of their revenue portfolio than that...it is one dimension of their overall strategy no matter what the narrative tries to say it is.
Sony games would sell really well on xbox. Much more than the port cost.
@ButterySmooth30FPS but they could make even more money with multiplat, especially with way more switch ports. Companies don't often sit back and say "this is enough." Even more so when they are part of a larger mega corp like Sony.
Steam is heavily rumored to be making a "console" version of the steam deck. Im betting that triggers another new market race like the handheld pc. I wonder what Sony and the people who claim that pc is "different" from the console world would think of that scenario where dozens of consoles can purchase and play playstation "console exclusives".
@dskatter i wouldn't say "clearly" sony isn't considering anything but lego horizon to test the waters. We know they had internal discussions about heckdivers 2 on xbox. We have been watching them ramp up the pc ports.
I'm betting it is Sony executives that eventually demand Playstation executives do the full multiplatform with at least one future game. It doesn't make sense for them to keep openly complaining in investor meetings that profit margins on $200+ million budget games isn't as high as they want and then keep selling those games to a fraction of the gaming industry.
I don't see the incentive for sony to attempt to block them. More sales is more sales.
If anything it can be the bridge of the gap for the fangirls that can't handle the idea of games being sold everywhere. They would technically still be "just" steam games where the 30% or whatever goes to valve.

Re: PSA: DOOM: The Dark Ages Has An Early Access Upgrade For Xbox Game Pass Players
$32 for two days early access and dlc of unknown length, quality, or release date seems like a ripoff to me. Pass.
If the dlc content actually comes out I will consider it at that time. They can keep the skin, soundtrack, and two day bug test.

Trying to finish off Botany Manor before it leaves Gamepass. Also replaying Destroy All Humans on PS2 and Rush on PSP.
Plus some Civ7.

Civ 7 by a country mile. Avowed was good too.
