These Oblivion remake rumours are getting out of hand! We've seen the likes of Nate The Hate and DetectiveSeeds suggesting it's on the way soon, and now Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb is also saying it'll shadow drop in April.
Perhaps there's a slight chance they're all misinformed, but it seems much more likely that we'll be getting this new version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion over the next few weeks. The question is, how bothered are you about it?
Jeff Grubb: I've been told it's going to shadow drop at any moment this month.
The Xbox 360 version of Oblivion was a classic without a doubt, but almost 20 years later, there's a whole lot they could do to shine it up. We've heard rumours that the remake is going to improve things like the blocking system, the stamina system, the HUD and archery - while also supposedly giving the game an Unreal Engine 5 makeover.
Does that sound exciting to you? Do you want to go back and experience Oblivion all over again in 2025? We're keen to hear what thoughts you have about these rumours so far, and what kind of features you're hoping to see in this remake.
Let us know your thoughts on the Oblivion remake in the poll above and comments section below!

Tbh they should just announce it I hate all the cloak and dagger behavior just announce the game!!
Easily my favorite Elder Scrolls, this would be huge if true!
Maybe they don't announce it because it doesn't exist.
I’m excited, if it’s real and if they didn’t mess it up! It would be easy to ruin.
April is also a weird month to release it. We just got avowed, and Clair obscur also comes out in April. Why wouldn’t they wait til June or something?
I wouldn't be surprised IF it exists they don't want it overshadowing South of Midnight. They'll want that to breathe for a bit and then drop it.
I'm excited but only because when I very first got into the 360, if I'm thinking of the right game, this was all anyone was playing. I never got round to it but certainly keen to give it a go now.
I played it a few years ago so probably not top of my list, but i'm still looking forward to it. If only to see what has changed.
But April seems a weird month to release, it's already a stacked month of Game Pass including South of Midnight, Expedition 33 and Blue Prince, plus Indiana Jones & Forza Horizon 5 also launching on PlayStation. That's 3 Xbox Game Studios games already to compete with, surely you'd release it into a bit more air, if only not to cannibalise those other sales.
Just get it over with!
I never trust these kinds of rumors. I'll believe it when it's officially announced.
I don't like old games... there, I said it! I just cannot go back and play them. I have Oblivion on disc, with all it's DLC, and yet have never played it. Indeed, the disc is actually still sealed!
That said, I loved Skyrim, which remains the only game that I have played in the series. Indeed, Skyrim holds the record (for me) with the longest time in a single run, at over 1000. That's over 1000 hours for one single campaign! If, and it is a big if, Microsoft don't screw the pooch here, then I may well be very interested in Oblivion. For that to happen, the remaster needs to be more of a remake. A simple shiny coat will be unlikely to suffice if the game still looks like it was made nigh on 20 years ago, and all the characters are still running around with potatoes for faces. Shiny potatoes are unlikely to cut it for me...
I will be interested when / if it's officially announced and / or released. Until then I have other games to occupy my time.
I loved Starfield and Skyrim, the two Bethesda games I've played, so of course I'm excited for these remakes, not just because of the graphics being updated, but mostly because of the frame rate improvements and the addition of quality of life features.
As long as it's faithful and not another Skyrim reskin I'll be happy. If it's anything like Skyrim my interest is zero.
I'm sorry to be a broken record on this but I'm very concerned about the extent of the overhaul. It's no "remake" if it is simply UE5 layered over the old game with a few gameplay tweaks. I say this only because my excitement level hinges on the evenness of the experience.
I hope they gave the game the attention it deserves because it is something special in that Bethesda kind of way.
It would have to feature re-recorded dialogue and new voice actors for me to consider it. Already have the original version which plays very nicely on Xbox Series.
I am personally very un-interested in this.
I was never a big of the original game to begin with and in the...checks notes...just over 20 years since its release, I've just moved on from it.
The memes it has spawned over the years are nice though.
Not especially. .might have been good at the time ...but games have done it better now
@Fiendish-Beaver Shiny potatoes! Lmao!
I will have to see the extent of the remaster/remake. I just replayed it a year ago (for like the 5th time) so I am probably good on another run for awhile unless it is a jawdropping upgrade, which i doubt.
There should be an option saying, "I would be really excited if I had faith in current Bethesda to do the thing justice." I am cautiously optimistic.
Honestly? Not at all. Was never that taken with Oblivion. Even mods failed to lift it. Daggerfall, Morrowwind and Skyrim were where it's at - and the first two have not aged well.
@Fiendish-Beaver There are some timeless games, old 2d games aged well. I woukd say portal aged well, geometry wars... but yeah some games age pretty badly, with newer games in the genre pushing it so far forward it's hard to go back. MGS1 and 2 are in my top 10 games of all time, but I am sure I couldn't stomach playing them now, theh were of a time and place
Not at all. That combat was bad when it 1st released, & will be embarrassingly bad now-a-days.
@tslog
While I'm not a fan of Oblivion combat has always been bad in TES. I've around 300 mods on Skyrim, many using script extender, and while the combat has been marginally improved through modding it's still quite bad.
Since I'm an old gamer, I was blown away by Morrowind. Oblivion is still a good game !!
I really hope the combat part has been reworked/ modernized. But it was a good Bethesda game !!😃
I have a feeling ES6 will more or less be a spiritual successor to this game
I got banned from a friend's Xbox over this game. lol.
He wanted me to try an Elder Scroll's game and I spent the 1st hour trying to get my face just right. And then another hour trying to find a good dress.
Now I can do it again!
@Kaloudz you are thinking correctly buddy. This was a huge 360 title in the early beginning. Gosh I loved the 360. Number 1 console of all time for me. I even played my Xbox OG more than PS2. Even tho PS2 had a way bigger catalog of games. I was way more into the Xbox than PS2 and for those that are confused as to what the next Xbox might look like, the OG was a PC in a box. Take care my friend, i always like to comment on your posts when i can, even if they don’t make sense to the topic. Haha cause we share the same ideas on the brand and we have fun with it. 😀
@HonestHick I thought as much. I came into the 360 a few years into the gen. Most people were playing two things. CoD, and Elder Scrolls lol. I'd always see pretty much just those two games when scrolling the friend list. Like I said I never got round to playing it but I'm definitely down for giving this version a go. And I know right? I remember playing Fuzion Frenzy nonstop on the OG Xbox. What an amazing party game, and what an amazing console - that had pretty much everything going for it at the time.
There's so many games from that era I'd love to see come back (via a remaster by either Aspyr or Nightdive) such as Buffy 1 and 2, Hunter the Reckoning, and (Dreamcast) Nightmare Creatures. Take care too chief. Always a pleasure to hear from you
