Today's Nintendo Direct event brought us plenty of games that are also coming to Xbox, but unfortunately we saw a couple that seemed to be announced for everything except Xbox - and that's the case with Patapon 1+2 Replay.
If you weren't aware, the Patapon rhythm games were first released on the PSP back in the day, and the first two are now getting a remastered glow-up for modern platforms. Sony isn't the developer or the publisher of this collection (those are SAS and Bandai Namco), but the IP still belongs to PlayStation and has been licensed out.
But yeah... no Xbox version. Come on Sony, throw us a bone here! With Xbox bringing so many first-party titles over to PS5 these days, we'd love to see the favour returned at least a little bit. Perhaps we're being too hopeful with that.
It's not just Sony anyway, as Square Enix announced SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered for a ridiculous number of platforms except Xbox after the show as well - and this is despite the company apparently wanting to support Xbox as much as possible these days. Here's hoping both of these games will find their way to Xbox eventually.
What do you make of this? Let us know down in the comments section below.

Seems like Sony is blocking all these ports.
They did the same with Freedom Wars, Lego Horizon and Everybody’s Golf.
Pon Pon Patapon, Block The Xbox Patapon, Pata Pata Patapon
A shame
@darkswabber I hadn't clocked that Everybody's Golf is a Sony-owned game - so yeah, there are actually two games from today's event that have received the same treatment.
Only way a Sony game will be on an Xbox device is through the steam backdoor option if the next gen is actually a PC console with steam on it
@FraserG developed by Sony Japan Studios in collaboration with Clap Hanz.
SJS also made Patapon and Freedom Wars. Other games they own are Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, Loco Roco, Ape Escape, Forbidden Siren, Gravity Rush and much much more. (They churned out so much between ps1, 2, 3, psp and psvita.)
@Only_station_matters account made mere minutes ago with a username clearly implying PlayStation is superiour.
Troll account.
@Only_station_matters Sure they do. They can do whatever they want. I can still wish they'd bring them to Xbox as well though 🤷♂️
If you expect Sony to have a ‘change of heart’ because Xbox is now porting even Halo to PS5 you’re going to be throughly disappointed time and time again.
Sony themselves have said as much, their goal is to get rid of Xbox as a competitor entirely, and Microsoft for sure is making Sony’s job easier on that, they just don’t need to sell games on Xbox plus it’s widely known it’s the platform that sells less games, thanks to GP, so as a business decision it makes sense, MS is doing it out of necessity to recoup 80 billion dollars they spent and they were incompetent to grow a user base beyond 30 million of both consoles sold and GP subs.
Oops, apparently I've accessed PurePlaystation instead of PureXbox.
@FraserG Bro, talking to someone that isn't here, or talking to yourself, is the first sign of madness 😳
On topic, it's just the way the industry is heading. Cross platform releases will become more and more normal as time moves on.
Makes sense. Every little thing that can help hasten the demise of Xbox hardware moves Sony a step closer to full monopoly of the high end console space. No competition means PlayStation are free to dictate pricing and restrict innovation spending. As long as they are content to undercut Nvidia and AMD’s equivalent pc hardware and Microsoft continue to provide software support they can do whatever they want. Limiting consumer choice is always a bad thing for anyone other than shareholders.
People need to stop thinking that companies would somehow just share things with their main competitors. Xbox wouldn’t be porting their games to PS and Nintendo if they didn’t have to. Next thing we’re gonna ask Nvidia to share their tech with Amd, because that’s apparently how business works now?
@Kaloudz I went mad a long time ago 😅
This isn't surprising. Sony will only, only, only consider Xbox ports if it's their LAST possible move. And even then I think they'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming into it. Which is why Xbox porting exclusives to their console will only strengthen them.
We still will have Ratatan though, right?
@IOI “Sony themselves have said as much, their goal is to get rid of Xbox as a competitor entirely”
You’re mixing up your companies mate. https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/26/23774547/microsoft-sony-xbox-internal-emails-ftc-out-of-business
Xbox needs Everybody's Golf!!!!
Oh well. I was interested in Patapon & SaGa Frontier 2 remastered. I could buy them on PS5 or Steam. But I'd rather give my money to someone who wants it instead. I understand Sony. But if Square Enix wants to succeed on Xbox. Then they need to stop being extremely selective on what titles they release. You won't win back trust doing that.
If Microsoft were in Sonys shoes, they also wouldn’t release it. It just is what it is.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner It is what it is. But, if this was MS, this thread would be full of "death of Xbox" posts. Instead, it's a Sony owned game, and still Microsoft are taking heat.
I really don't think Sony HAS to port games to Xbox while Xbox HAS to port games.
@anoyonmus Yeah, that's a good point. Situation could change in years to come though.
@Krzzystuff Not even that
@Kaloudz difference is Microsoft is porting their newest games.
Sony is porting 10 to 20 year old psp and psvita games.
@darkswabber It really doesn't matter. If this was MS, folks would be here with the pitchforks. It's not, it's a Sony owned game, and not a peep in sight. Forza was a five year old game when that was announced as cross platform. Sea of Thieves too. The fact remains is that a Sony game is going to a console platform that isn't PlayStation. This isn't the first time it's happened and it wont be the last it happens, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the feedback will be different or non-existent...
@FraserG I'll see you at the madhouse then!
@Kaloudz im going to throw it out here which is fine - because it drives traffic - but there would be no rage if there wasn’t an article on it.
We don’t get an article for every AbC game that isn’t going on XYZ.
But like I say I get it, it drives engagement - look here I am adding to it!
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Lol, as am I! Thanks for being a decent chatter though man, you're never rude which is nice!
sony not even porting these games they are licensing them out for others to port..
Sony is never gonna port their games over.
And Square can keep theirs. I had a desire to play the final fantasy remakes....
They can shove all their games up their.....
I'd rather they gave xbox nothing. Like I've said before, if it's any longer than a year exclusivity they can keep it. They'd rather publish and release games elsewhere.
F**k em.
The bottom line of it all is MS ported their games to bring in more revenue due to the stagnation of services and plunging console sales. Not to be every gamers friend. Sony simply doesn't have to port them yet as console sales continue to grow and ps plus has millions more subs than GP at the last released figures (though they likely are in the same stagnation).
The caveat being the word 'yet'.
@GeeEssEff Sony has said essentially the same thing, and that quote from Microsoft is hilarious to look back on, launching Halo and Forza on PS5 is surely a weird way to “spend Sony out of business”.
It's not just Sony anyway, as Square Enix announced SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered for a ridiculous number of platforms except Xbox
This, this right here it's something worth reporting on, since Squeenix are constantly stating how they want to support Xbox and bring their games to as many platforms as possible yet they pull sh*t like this.
As for Sony not sharing ip's with Xbox it should, by now, be a complete non - story.
Wasn’t it Sony that cried about exclusivity? It feels kind of sad now if you make a game multiplatform except for Xbox when PS players can enjoy a lot of great games that were MS exclusives.
In a couple of years we hear Sony cry again because MS is making so much money with their multiplatform strategy and their own IP’s sell less and console sales do not cover the loss of revenue.
@Krzzystuff That's already a thing.
I can play Helldivers 2, God Of War, etc, through my PC, from my Xbox with the app Moonlight.
As a matter of fact my Xbox is seeing a lot of use as just mirroring my PC...
Another small step in the multiplat direction for Sony. Times they are a changing.
@IOI I believe the quote was taken from 2019 when they assumed spending 80 billion on publishers would drag more gamers to Xbox and Gamepass…the failure of that vision has resulted in the multi platform landscape they have found themselves in today.
I have no doubt in my mind that internally, Sony would love it if Xbox went bust but never heard of them even alluding to it publicly, let alone outright saying it. You got any quotes/articles?
@IOI It’s hilarious to look back on cuz of how they wanted to spend Sony out of business, because they actually thought everyone would move to Game Pass and it was gonna reach 100 million subscribers before the end of the decade. It just didnt quite work out yet for them, so they had to change gears and now they have to port their exclusives.
To be fair, Sony probably wants the same thing, but that is true for almost every company in existence to want their main competitor out of the game so 🤷🏻♂️
@Kaloudz there are historically more PS fans and its hard to be xbox fan these days for anyone who even merely following the news.
Pretty sure people who think of xbox as a console are dissapointed and might switch camps next gen (if not yet). Many just dont believe in the brand anymore, clearly see a decline and if you dont want to deal with PC then you dont have options - Playstation it is.
Of course there are normies who just play games and enjoy GP - kudos to them.
@IOI quote from MS is just old at this point. Maybe they actually considered that, but after ABK deal was closed, decision makers like Satya stepped in and they are not console warriors - its multiplat and forget the console and loyalists.
I am thinking, well Sony does everything so you still buy their box. If you want to have more games, better support from 3rd party and also MS games then PS is basically a de-factor console going forward.
Which makes an xbox purchase more of a value question with GP. If you plan to play via GP and save money, sure why not own both. But if you can choose only 1, then PS it is.
And now comes the switch 2...
So do you want best possible console experience = PS5 PRO.
Do you want real exclusives not available anywhere = switch 2.
You dont care about graphics and performance but want more flexibility = switch 2. Basically switch 2 in my eyes steals series s audience.
You want powerful enough under TV console that has maximum selection games AND cheaper during sales = base PS5 (yes we compared in different markets like UK, Canada and US and PS5 usually receives better deals than SX).
You dont care about exlclusives, you dont care about long-term health of a console and brand, you specifically want a better gaming subscription, you are OK with price increases and possible changes to the subscription = xbox series.
P.S. you want PC-console hybrid next gen? look for what Valve will offer.
@GeeEssEff when they acquired Bethesda the goal was to make games for GP specifically as exclusives (there is an actual quote from Spencer).
the vision did not fail - they just did not give a chance for this strategy at all as they dragged themselves into almost 2 year scrutiny with ABK deal and right after that they went multiplat.
2025 is the first year in series gen when we have solid lineup of multiple games thru the year. Coincidentally now they have less exclusives as only 2 games out of like 6-7 are exclusives.
With old strategy, Pretty sure games like Doom as exclusive would attrract customers. THat would also lead to more consoles sold, more revenues and more GP subs. Sure, I doubt they could ever catch with Sony but definitely they could be big and respected player climbing close to them.
@Neither_scene I 100% agree with this BUT...
I was talking to someone about this and they told me "yeah but its not sony's fault that they have this strong market position" and yes he is also right.
Sony has come a long way. With PS1 where Nintendo backed out and Sony decided to do it themselves. With huge success during PS2 era (still best selling console of all times). Falling hard during ps3 era yet still coming back to be on par and sligtly surpassing the x360. Fully playuing around MS xbox one launch mistakes and now securing the total win during this gen by basically just keeping the momentum.
Its MS only fault that xbox "failed" (if we can call it). Its them who did not want to build based on successfull x360 era and wanted to conquer everyone which resulted in xbox one failure. Its them trying to re-invent the wheel with XBox games on PC and game pass. its them who just wanted to buy out the "win" instead of developing and growing your own studiois.
They focused on everything except games and what gamers want and failed. The only reason they are around is MS Billion dollars of cash chilling on the account as they were very successful in tech field overall so they could buy out biggest publishers out there so now they are the biggest publisher.
@IOI
"to recoup 80 billion dollars they spent"
"Recoup"?
They spent it on 80 billion worth of assets and ip, which they still have.
The funds aren't lost or suchlike.
@Millionski I don’t blame Sony, but I’m fully aware that they’re a company seeking to maximise their profits and will do so at the expense of consumer welfare if given the opportunity. Their current dominance has resulted in reduced first party output, higher pricing and arguably an over-reliance on sequels and third party studio’s. Their behaviour isn’t dissimilar from that of Microsoft during peak 360 era Xbox.
As someone that sold my series x nearly 2 years ago and switched to pc, Microsoft aren’t failing me at all. Their first party output seems to finally be hitting its stride and is providing an ever-expanding diverse portfolio of titles. Gamepass for pc is 33% cheaper than ultimate on Xbox (£9.99pm vs £14.99pm) and gives you the same access to day one games from Xbox studios. You can also choose where to buy their titles, either direct from the Microsoft store or through steam.
Consoles are fast becoming a false economy - games are more expensive, you have to pay for online multiplayer, and if ps5 pro is anything to go by, the hardware isn’t going to be any where near as affordable in the future as it once was. Consoles are also shifting away from physical media so you will only able to obtain software from a single storefront - Sony actually restrict the sale of digital games from third party sellers.
I’m glad to have transitioned away from consoles and certainly don’t want to be in those ecosystems when ps6 launches.
@GeeForce basically they only need to recoup goodwill (premium that they paid over IP/assets price).
I agree with many IOI points but unfortunately he seems like a PS troll most of the time.
@Neither_scene Any company seeks to maximize profits. Its more about the balance and respecting your fanbase.
I agree on PS monopoly being bad.
I agree on PC you are getting a lot from MS.
The problem that PC people oversee is xbox is (well used to be) the console. And MS throwing their xbox console fanbase who grew with the platform under the bus. Basically they are "forcing" you to switch to other platforms by making xbox console the weakest among any market competition.
I see it as MS simply done with consoles but too scared to pull the plug fully and announce it plus they still earn billions on these 40-50M xbox active users (which is still a lot of people).
I am 100% sure next console sells easily 30-50% less than seris. If its a PC-hybrid then I dont know, too big of a gamble. I think console audience would rather go to PS or N than PC. And on PC market is too competitive already for any new player.
Will see.
@GeeForce Then why are they porting all games to every platform in existence? Out of goodwill?
@Millionski Lol tell me exactly how being extremely frustrated and distrustful of Microsoft means I’m a ’PS troll’…
If anything I wanted the brand to thrive and compete neck to neck to both Sony and Nintendo, not fall into an spiral of death courtesy of Microsoft themselves.
@IOI
Would think it's short term greed to make even more cash!
@GeeForce And when did this greed start? Just after closing the near 80 billion ABK acquisition…
As I said in another article the other day, Sony don't need to share but MS do. If it was reversed it would be exactly the same. If it was another industry then it would still be exactly the same. There is just some wierd belief that because MS need the sales of other platforms that Sony should return the favour out of kindness and that just not how it works.
@IOI
A company worth 3 trillion got greedy long ago.
The moneymen though are not willing to play any long game plan of the Xbox console competing with exclusives and are looking to make more profit from the 80 billion investment in the present, hence the multiplat.
@IOI I don't get the whole death part. Xbox will soon be everywhere. So Xbox will be the healthiest it has ever been. That includes Xbox hardware owners even if it's a niche product. 3rd party publishers that come along on the journey could benefit from Xbox's new strategy as Xbox allowing their games to be where gamers want is a guaranteed money maker. Rather than trying to force them to be somewhere they have no interest in.
Port begging as an Xbox fan has to be an extremely miserable experience.
That’s even more a bummer about saga frontier 2. Romancing saga 2 remake also skipped Xbox. square and sega are both letting me down. And Sony too.
Just means I won’t bother buying or playing the games anytime soon. Too much else to play already that actually is on Xbox.
@Millionski I'm not so sure it is hard to be a MS fan these days. I think some people are just adjusting to the times. We have here a Sony owned game that's going cross platform, and it's not generating any heat towards the company - which would be an entirely different story if this was a MS owned game. We've seen that much is true over the last year alone.
This wont be the first time Sony does this (it isn't actually) and it wont be the last. MS just seems to get auto hate by a demographic for no good reason whatsoever.
Don't get me wrong. Multiplat for anyone - including Sony, is a good thing if it generates more revenue. That's good for the game, it's good for the fans, and it's good for the studios as it helps to keep studios open.
Sony already categorically won the ‘console war’ but they still won’t relent even one single millimetre on the siege of Xbox until the complete annihilation of their arch nemesis. Well there goes any hope of Stellar Blade on Xbox, ugh.
Why would Sony release anything on a Dying console, Microsoft had their own exclusive golf game outlaw golf and did nothing with it just like their snowboarding game amped
I'm more upset about the game EVERYBODY's Golf being available to everyone but XBOX. Messed up man
The thing is this is exactly what Xbox was doing several years ago; Playstation is just following suit years later. I imagine Sony will announce same day PC launches for all their first party games before long. Then they'll support more "case by case" Nintendo releases and then they'll move to Xbox unless Microsoft has nuked the platform. Sony does a really good job of dragging their heel. Or maybe it's that Microsoft has to be "revolutionary" and make these decisions first because they're in third place. Maybe both. It's somewhat unfortunate because this means Xbox faces the brunt of the bad press. People screamed bloody murder when Xbox announced day one PC too or did some Switch releases like Ori. Then no one cared. Now we're praising Sony for any PC release and eagerly anticipating day one PC.
Regardless the general trajectory of the entire industry is to make games more widely available across all platforms (not even just traditional consoles and PC). People want to sell games to more people and gamers more than ever are expecting better multiplatform experiences. While Sony and Nintendo aren't showing Xbox the love, all their third party partners sure are. At both the Nintendo Direct and State of Play we're seeing more and more games announced that are multiplatform and support Xbox day one. Many of which are from franchises, developers, and publishers that have traditionally skipped Xbox. We can even look to MLB the Show. The game is Sony developed and published and has been completely exclusive (it still doesn't even have a PC release) to ONLY PS consoles from 2006 to 2020 and from 2014 to 2020 it was the only proper licensed MLB sports game all without a multiplatform release. Then in 2021 the idk baseball overlords, made Sony not just release it on Xbox, but make it a day one game pass game (and every release except this year's has been day one game pass). Then it came to Nintendo Switch in 2022.
Exclusives are trending down. Xbox was just the first console maker to loosen their grip. Sony is clearly going to be the second. Nintendo will likely be a distant third as unlike the former two they don't have "as" money hungry (especially Microsoft) shareholders to answer to and have far far lower development costs to grapple with and they can get away with charging more for their hardware and games (compared to the cost of production and development). Nintendo is far smaller than both Xbox and PlayStation in terms of gaming revenue, but they don't have as much pressure to be bigger or deal with the growing industry costs. I mean they make bank selling two Pokémon games at once for $60 each and those really don't look nearly as expensive as other AAA games to make.
sony not porting or remastering these games they licensed it out to other companies..
sony has made it clear they have no desire to remaster or remake there old games..if other companies want to do that then sony will license it out to them..
