Well, it turns out A Minecraft Movie has been an absolutely massive success. Yesterday, it was reported by CNN that the film had grossed $157 domestically (in the US) to mark the best opening weekend of the year.
There were apparently concerns that the film could struggle when it debuted - after all, the trailers didn't get the best reception and some of the reviews didn't either - but it's ended up surpassing expectations in an apparently "major" way.
"This is the first major over-performance,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, told CNN.
Back in late March, Microsoft Gaming CEO and Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Variety that his team was learning from experiences like Minecraft, Halo and Fallout when it comes to the film and TV space, and the intention is to do more.
So, the question is what's next? Halo seems like a no-go at the moment, but we've seen Dave Bautista asking to play the lead in a Gears project, and there's always stuff like The Elder Scrolls, Psychonauts, Crash Bandicoot, Call of Duty, Fable, Sea Of Thieves... the list goes on and on. Could any of those work well as a film or TV series? Probably!
What do you think? What other Xbox IP should get this kind of treatment? Tell us in the comments below!

Fable could be good if they did it right!
@Ricky-Spanish this is such a good answer! I think Fable would make a pretty good British tv series (like a bbc style 6 episode comedy)
@Kramlar Yeah that's what I was thinking and the amount of great English comics/ comedians I could work!
I'm thinking a more magical version of black adder from back in the day is what I'd like it to be ha!
I follow Hollywood from their industry perspective, news/analysis etc., and this is a major upset/surprise in that industry.
Congrats to MS etc. for making something highly liked for kids.
They are calling it a 5-Quadrant Movie, whatever that means, lol.
Starfield
don't think they'll do it
Gears of war would be awesome as an action/horror movie (or show).
Banjo kazooie but they'd have to use the ip first for.... a game.
That movie looks horrendous so I'm not too excited for another ip to get the film treatment.
Gears of War, Sea of Thieves, Fable, Blood Wake, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Halo (Done right), and Brute Force
sign keanu reeves and henry cavil and make a cool call of duty movie, that could gross 1B
and elder scrolls, starfiled should be amazon premium tv series, like fallout
Fable would be amazing, but, and keep your pitchforks at bay people, I think Doom deserves another chance - done right.
Always wanted an Elder Scrolls TV series. So many stories and lore to work with.
When's the Voodoo Vince Hollywood adaptation?
I'm just happy for everyone involved 😊 and it's great to see the film doing great.
Heh heh. Always entertaining when audiences defy critics. 😁
Since they own the Rare IP, Conker's Bad Fur Day...and Perfect Dark.
@BacklogBrad
You're looking at it all wrong. Kids absolutely love the Minecraft movie, because that is the target audience. As such it's been quite a success.
Speaking as a parent I've taken my children, (at least when they were little), to a lot of movies and the excitement and joy they had from those experiences was wonderful to be part of as a father. My opinion, as an adult, of any movie they wanted to see was neither here nor there. I will admit, though, there were a few that I genuinely enjoyed.
I'm willing to bet that there were many a film you enjoyed as a child that the adults in your life thought we're horrendous.
There are many IPs that I love at Microsoft, but it seems to me that until Microsoft gets its creativity back, it should not dabble too much in areas such as movies.
