We're going to be seeing an awful lot of Nintendo Switch 2 news doing the rounds later this week after the Switch 2 Direct has taken place on Wednesday, and who knows... perhaps we'll get some Xbox news to discuss as part of it.
It's been mentioned on numerous occasions that Microsoft wants to bring multiple Xbox first-party titles to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, and that could ultimately include the likes of Halo, Gears and Forza.
We've been hearing rumours like this as recently as a week ago - so it seems very likely at this point!
The question is, will we hear about these at the Switch 2 Direct? Nintendo might be more interested on delivering first-party and console-specific news at an event such as this, so perhaps it's not the time to reveal anything about Xbox.
Then again, if they're going to reveal a price and release date, the ability to play all the best Xbox games on the device will surely help with sales - and therefore you'd think Nintendo would be keen to at least mention it in the stream.
Perhaps the ASUS Xbox handheld could factor into this as well, though? If Microsoft is heavily involved with this, it might make sense to hold back on the Switch 2 for now - especially considering they both appear to be launching in the mid-second half of 2025. Could it cannabilise Xbox handheld sales if big games are announced for the Switch 2?
Whatever the case may be, we'll find out tomorrow - the Switch 2 Direct takes place at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 5pm BST, and you'll be able to watch it on YouTube or via our friends at Nintendo Life (it'll also be linked here on Pure Xbox).
What do you think? Are you expecting Xbox news at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct this week?

Nintendo will more than likely show of their own 1st party titles tomorrow. I would be absolutely shocked if there were any Xbox related announcements as Nintendo won’t want to detract any news from themselves. It would certainly be big news when there are Xbox related announcements, but that will be kept for another time!
I was going to say yes, definitely, Xbox gonna announce Starfield and Halo for Nintendo. But then i read the above comment, which makes way more sense 😝
I don’t think it will happen tomorrow as the spotlight will be on first-party games, but I do feel Microsoft is going to port absolutely everything they can get running on the console, they already were supporting the Switch back when they still believed in exclusives, wouldn’t surprise me if MS ends up being Nintendo’s most important third-party partner in terms of revenue in a few years.
Depends what we consider xbox news. An xbox port or two to the switch 2 isn't really my definition of xbox news but I'm sure we will see plenty of articles about it from xbox sites. There will probably be a few 3rd party titles that warrant a "this is also on xbox" update but nothing major.
I'm sure the early years of the switch 2 will be catching up on 3rd party titles that couldn't run on the og. Similar to how borderlands and bioshock got significant time at a direct when they got ported even though they were like 10 years old. This direct will probably have a lot of those type of annoucements (RE4 remake, etc)
I probably won't be picking up the switch 2 so what ever is announced won't really effect me but it would be good to see whats coming out for it!
Anyway, only Nintendo and Xbox show first party games in their showcase, not like PlayStation which only shows games from third party publishers and multiplatform for the most part.
@fatpunkslim And all those xbox games are still coming to play sooooo
I expect MS to support the hell put of the Switch 2 but I'm not expecting any to be me tinned during the direct. At best It might be Xbox games in a third party montage.
It will all be about Nintendo switch 2 and their in house games.
That is what will sell the switch 2 and definitely not Halo, they don’t need it for release day at all.
Also Nintendo make far more money selling their own games.
It can be announced on direct in the end like “also these games are coming”. Obviously no one expects a big block dedicated to xbox games on nintendo direct.
Games that I am sure will be coming this year or shortly after: hifi rush, sea of thieves, MCC collection, forza 5.
@fatpunkslim why are you so worried about what Sony are or aren’t showing? Article has nothing to do with them.
Never happen but metroid dread for gamepass or at least Xbox please 😂😭
Probably not tomorrow, but announcements will follow. Depends on whether Switch 2 can actually run these games or not. Regardless of how powerful the SOC might be, it'll still be constrained by handheld functionality.
This is where the Oblivion remake gets announced.
I reckon there will be some form of Xbox presence at the event, be it new games for the device or device games being announced multiplat. Either way we will see.
@IOI exactly especially since switch one is of the best selling consoles in history and surpassing ps4 and likely ps5, if switch 2 sells more or less the same that will be the top market for MS.
And ps4 pro-ish power with dlss should be more than enough to launch even modern games of current xbox series gen.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner to be fair we always bring sony into conversation in many xbox only articles.
Absolutely there will be huge Xbox news at the Switch 2 direct! I am 100% confident that Nintendo is bringing next gen Mario, Zelda and Pokemon later this year to Xbox, it will be glorious!
@fatpunkslim thats somewhat true. Out of big 3 the lowest output of 1st party is with Sony.
MS in 2025 probably the biggest publisher with 10+ first party games plus ports to other systems.
Nintendo definitely cooking a 1st party lineup for switch 2 and last week announced bunch of games for switch 1.
Sony has Ghost of Yotei and phantom blade from what I recall. DS2 is not first party.
P.S. talking about 1st party releases, not exclusives.
I routinely hammer NL for posting non-Nintendo news, so it would be hypocritical of me not to do the same for Px when they post non-Xbox news. I come here for Xbox news, not Nintendo news. Heck, I will be going to Nintendo news sites even less now that Nintendo has the app. Lol
@Ken_Kaniff that was my thought as well. The Switch 1 showed elder scrolls with the controllers. I’m guessing of course. But would be cool.
I for sure want to pick up a Switch 2 on launch day if i can pre order fast enough. A more powerful Switch is all i need from Nintendo, Gimmicks not necessary!
I genuinely don't care personally. I haven't gamed on my Switch in ages and I don't have any interest in the Switch 2. I don't follow Nintendo news. The most I'll see of it is people reacting (either to a lack of Xbox games or Xbox games being present) when I search Xbox news later on.
For people that are interested in the switch, I do hope it will get good support and they can play the games they enjoy on it. But personally the Switch and Nintendo don't really cross my mind much. Like at this point I exclusively only see Nintendo news, rumors, etc when it's in relation to other gaming brands I do follow.
Not xbox related, butI wonder if Death Stranding will come to Switch 2
Not a peep today, but there are some more showcases tomorrow and Friday (I think?).
