There have been ongoing rumours about the Halo: Master Chief Collection making the jump across to certain other platforms, but now new information suggests it might not necessarily play out like expected.
Speaking to 'The Xbox Two' podcast about the upcoming Switch 2 launch, The Verge's senior editor Tom Warren mentioned how he doesn't know if a collection will happen or if "every game" will necessarily be included:
I don't know if it's going to be 'collection', in the sense - I wouldn't think of it as every game, put it that way... [that's] probably the most I can say on it.
Although he apparently can't say anything more right now, he did acknowledge one of the host's comments about a possible remake of the original title Halo: Combat Evolved - linking back to his own story about a possible remaster.
Warren also speculated that cross-platform work on Halo may have become "more limited" since the rebrand of Halo Studios last year and its shift across to Unreal Engine 5 for future titles. Additionally, he believes Project Foundry (the UE5 Halo tech demo) is the "exact" sort of project a studio would want to do if it was going to "remake an older game".
If we hear any updates, we'll let you know.

Halo is becoming more a afterthought game in the past few years I don't think it will be ever properly relevant again! Just like the coalition with gears 343 or whatever they are being called now have done a really bad job with both franchises both should of had more and better games out they took over in the 360 gen!
All I know is that if Halo, Gears, etc come out for the Switch 2 and are actually put on cartridge, I'll buy them again for the historical irony alone
It should be halo infinite going to ps5 not mcc or a remake.
Certainly hope they're not remaking 3. 3 was the worst in the series imo.
@Kaloudz ye after 2 if was abit meh 😥 2 was best I reckon for campaign although reach was good online
@Kaloudz Have you played Infinite?
@Kaloudz While I strongly (but respectfully) disagree, wouldn’t that make 3 the best candidate for a remake? A chance to update and improve?
It would be interesting moment to see all big 3 on PS. It just doesnt feel right.
Halo MCC probabky this year as tied to launch of switch 2.
Gears Probably this if collection is released or next year the latest with e-day.
@EvenStephen7 You know what, that's actually a good shout. I say Resident Evil 6 is the worst in that series but a remake with more focus on better elements would elevate it. So yes, you make a solid point there.
@husker42c I did and I loved the campaign 🤣
@Decimateh Halo 2 was the best for me too of the legacy trilogy but Halo 4 wins overall. I thought it was spot on.
@Kaloudz I’m a terminal optimist haha. That’s a great point about RE6 too — now you have me wanting that!
@husker42c Oh no, Infinite’s campaign fell short and it lacked MP content at launch but the gameplay was nailed, it has the best feeling gameplay of the entire series imo.
The worst one without a doubt is Halo 5, with its CoD-wanna be gameplay and multiplayer, nonsensical campaign about evil Cortana and a bigger focus on some character we had never seen before instead of the Chief.
@EvenStephen7 Better to be an optimist than a (trying my hand at being clever here) pessimist (is it?) lol.
And yeah I dislike RE6 but with them remaking the mainline series, I'd certainly give it a go if they stripped away the coop and actually made it survival horror like what they've done with the REmakes so far.
I mean can you imagine that big hulking enemy chasing you around with the metal arm O_o
@IOI Gameplay wise, I thought Infinite was definitely a step in the right direction, but everything else was a huge letdown for me. The story just didn't click with me (hasn't since Halo 3) and the multiplayer was disappointingly shallow. I'm glad other people enjoyed it. It just did nothing for me unfortunately. I absolutely Halo 1-3 though 👍🏻
@Kaloudz I loved 2 getting the skulls on legendary etc couldn't beat doing The invisibility glitch when get invisible instead of torch for master chief activating it before check point save quit turn Xbox off n on then loading back up invisible for all level 😂😂 spent hours doing that could sit watch all battles between elites n brutes on last levels lmao
@EvenStephen7 @Kaloudz re6 needs to stay in the bin where it belongs 😂😭
@Decimateh Halo 2 was amazing. I think the elevation from 1 to 2 was phenomenal. I just didn't feel anything likable with 3. It felt bland, and the story was just... ergh.
Lmao it's a hard game to like - especially with all those annoying scripted moments. That's for sure.
My guess is some sort of halo free to play game.
@Kaloudz same i was like wheres the magic gone 😭
I hope they do it a few games at a time, and I hope they do that to add Cross-play to the Campaigns. Because as far as I'm aware, the Multiplayer is all Cross-play between Xbox and PC, however only the Halo 3 and I think ODST have it as far as Campaigns go.
It could also just be worded or thought out poorly, as, well yeah, the MCC wouldn't contain 5 or Infinite which would be 'all' the main Halo games.
@Kaloudz OMG! Thank you!! I have so many issues with Halo 3's story and how it treated Cortana. I could write a whole thread on why it's bad, but it would probably sound like a Mary Sue article. lol.
Halo 4 was my first so I'm biased towards it.
Imo though Halo 5 has by far the worst absolute none-sense story breaking plot out of all the Halo games and ruined Halo so badly that even Infinite couldn't save it.
Warzone Firefight was fantastic though.
Halo Infinite definitely cost a lot of money and was a huge flop. Otherwise, the 343 executives would not have been fired en masse.
I would like to see them consider cross play, etc. starting after the new Halo reboot. (If you're asking me what I can expect from Halo Studios right now, I'd say no...)
@Utena-mobile Ah see I didn't even bother with Halo 5. It's the only Halo in the series that I have never cared for even remotely. The whole "team vs team" crap was just pointless. They really dropped the ball with that.
Halo 4 however, oh my days. Perfect imo. It was dark, it was gritty, it had emotion, and to me felt like the first game in the series where Cortana actually meant something.
I have to agree with you on 3. What a crap, stupid, 90s era action-like load of nonsense. I could write a thread right there with you lol.
@Kaloudz
Right? Like, in Halo 3, the second half of the game barely has anything to do with the first half.
And everyone kept telling me about how great a relationship John and Cortana had, so when I finished Halo 4 I was devastated and thought, wow, what a tragic but perfect way to end a love story.
And then I went back and there is nothing(!!) in the original 3 games! Halo 1 I thought they had some fun moments and came across as good partners who had worked for a long time together. But Halo 2, she had more chemistry with Sgt Johnson, and then in 3 she was just a prop. I was so angry.
@Utena-mobile Yep, exactly that. It's just a lame game all round. It's the Resident Evil 6 of the Halo series. Saying that I haven't, and don't plan on playing Halo 5 so perhaps that's a lot worse, but at the moment, the worst game in the series for me is 3, by far. Course, my fave level of all time in any Halo is (is it?) the last level in Halo 1. That warthog level through the breaking ship.
