Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 14-15)

Man, I absolutely hated Fallen Order. Maybe I'll give it another chance one day.

The intro was fun, but the first planet ruined it, haha. It gave me Super Mario 64 vibes in terms of the level design (as in, it felt like a bunch of random geometry cobbled together instead of an actual place).

These days, I don't even bother "playing the previous one before the new game comes out" and just watch the older game(s) on YouTube instead (the "movie version") and go straight into the new game. Makes the new game feel fresh instead of "Gah, I just played this game and this is more of the same, not really feeling it."

People looking for a new IP? They need to finish the second trilogy first. Honestly with all the $$$ Microsoft has, it boggles my mind that one of their flagship series gets ONE game remastered and then they stopped.

The Coalition needs to finish Gears 6 before in the Series S/X timeline ffs, and MS needs to make a new studio to handle remasters.

Re: Xbox Fans Left Disappointed With Lack Of First-Party Reveals At The Game Awards 2022

@Romans12 Yeah, it sucks to say! Having an Xbox honestly feels like having a Playstation that doesn't play exclusives. And then like 3 times every 5 years we get a good first party game, but otherwise it's stuff that feels "cheap" just so it can be free on Game Pass. I'd rather pay $60 or $70 every year for a new exclusive AAA title and $10/mo for Xbox Live than this, TBH.

Re: Jim Ryan Denies Sony Is Misleading Regulators Over Xbox's Activision Blizzard Deal

@Neverwild Sony wouldn't let me refund games for pre-orders, has removed hundreds of games from PSNow and jacked the price up, and has auto-renewed my subscriptions a bunch of times even tho I deactivated them on my consoles (plural) AND on the website via PC....Meanwhile Xbox lets me refund digital games and play old games I already own for free. Sony makes me sick and I hope MS wins.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Some Of Your Favourite Horror Games On Xbox?

stinkyx

Clive Barker's Jericho is an underrated gem, IMHO. The main complaint I've heard about that game is that it's frustrating to keep your squadmates from getting downed because the A.I. is so incompetent. Well, you don't HAVE to keep them alive, so if you just ignore them and let them be downed, it's a lot of fun! Just lame it's not X1/Series compatible...

Re: Xbox Appears To Be Refunding Stalker 2 Digital Pre-Orders

stinkyx

Meanwhile Sony won't let you refund at all, period. Nothing like pre-ordering a game, seeing it get horrible pre-release reviews, and then NOT being able to refund even tho you haven't played one second of the game.

But anyway...hoping for the best with this one!!

Re: Bethesda Devs Reportedly Feared Starfield Becoming The 'Next Cyberpunk'

stinkyx

@Chaudy There needs to be some kind of target deadline, otherwise it will just drag on indefinitely. The game director should know enough about the scope of the game and their production team to get a good ballpark date of when the game should finish, delaying only to polish things up.

Anyway...calling your own game the possible "Next Cyberpunk" has reeeeeeally lessened my interest in this one. I'm certain it'll be "more of the same" instead of anything remotely revolutionary.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt Dev Explains Lack Of Xbox Version

stinkyx

@uptownsoul Crossfire X is one of the worst games I've ever played, and I'm the kind of person who loves spawn bases (to camp and be camped).

This one is actually pretty fun. It's a basic battle royale game at its core, but the powers/classes, parkour, setting, and NPC interactions (draining civilians for buffs, taking down armored patrols for loot) are unique enough that I sunk a ton of time into it on PC. It was BADLY optimized and the controller controls were garbage, tho, so having the PS version as their testing grounds might not be so bad.

There's always GeForce now, if the add it on there... Unless Sony pulls another God of War.

Re: The Coalition Shows Off Stunning New Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo

The more realistic a game looks, the less realistic it feels when the A.I. and interactivity are still stuck in 2004. It's like those videos where people reenact GTA in real life. Can we pleeeease get NPCs and enemies that aren't painfully stupid, predictable, and instantly immersion-breaking, and environments that at least have Crysis 2007 levels of destruction?

Re: Street Fighter 6 Officially Revealed, No Word On Platforms Yet

stinkyx

@Ashadelo You couldn't even cancel pre-orders on Sony consoles, last time I checked. Refund policy overall is a joke, just like with Nintendo. And I can't tell you how many times my PS+ subscription has been auto-renewed even though I made sure to turn-off auto-renew on my console AND on my PC...have to remove my payment method after I buy something to make sure it doesn't reactivate all my dormant subscriptions.

Re: Random: 'Bring Back Killer Instinct' Sign Shows Up At AEW Dynamite Event

@Blessed_Koz KI was hugely important for fighting games. First and foremost, it invented combo breakers. Next, it was the first game to have really long combos, and lastly it formalized the combo gameplay structure we see in lots of other fighting games to this day. It was accessible yet deep. That's not even to mention the cultural appeal it had in the 90s with its characters and music.

Re: Call Of Duty Might Be Ditching Yearly Releases, And It's About Time

stinkyx

I personally like the yearly release schedule because the quality and amount of content is usually justified by the pricetag, and the older games still have a huge enough player base that it's not essential to migrate.

The thing I do NOT like, however, is the forced Warzone integration. I think it limits the creativity each developer has by locking them into a template. No dolphin diving or crazy gadgets in BLOPS CW because those features wouldn't meld with MW's gameplay systems in Warzone. Will we ever see another futuristic game with wall-running or advanced movement? Or just any notable change in gameplay? Doubtful if it has to play nicely with Warzone.

Re: Call Of Duty Might Be Ditching Yearly Releases, And It's About Time

stinkyx

@Somebody We'll have to see. From a business POV, it would be interesting if players could get the latest COD on GamePass vs having to shell out $70 on PS5, and then having some kind of exclusivity window (like a month?) would lock-in all the content creators to Xbox while still leaving the door open for the masses to play on their platform of choice.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Is Your Favourite Activision Blizzard Franchise?

stinkyx

Call of Duty!

Also, hoping Xbox players will stay humble with the acquisition. Maybe it's just me, but the community at PushSquare seems to have gotten more elitist over the years as Sony became top dog last console generation. Like...a LOT of corporate shilling in the comments. Sucks for PS gamers they can't play new iterations of these franchises, but they can do what they've been telling Xbox and PC players for years and just buy a new console

Re: Talking Point: Is Forced Cross-Play On Xbox Becoming A Huge Issue?

stinkyx

I play a lot of crossplay, and it's lame that people want to exclude players because 10+ years ago there were a bunch of aimbots in PC shooters. I personally haven't had any problems.

To me, the only noticeable difference is when someone is using mouse + keyboard and you see their screen whipping around everywhere in the spector cam. I used to think it was super unfair, but controller autoaim is so heavy nowadays, and those types of people might LOOK good but usually aren't, so it's not uncommon to see controller players stomp them.

I think stats-based ranking and matchmaking systems have an even bigger impact on enjoyment. Matches where one team is waaaaay better than the other, or where 1-4 players are waaaaaay better than everyone else have been the leading cause of frustrating / unfair / boring matches in my experience.

This has been the case long before crossplay was a thing. Let the really good players (PC or not) get pooled together with other really good players. But who knows what's going on (remember Activision-Blizzard's matchmaking patent to put players who just bought a skin or DLC into matches with bad players, in order to manipulate everyone into subconsciously associating buying items with doing better?).

There's also the problem of internet quality here in the USA. That's been a noticeable problem for me, especially in games where fractions of a second matter. Pre-aiming and pre-firing help a lot, but getting dumped into a match where everyone has 200+ ping is less of a thing for me with crossplay too thanks to the expanded player pools.

The last elephant in the room is that some people just suck at shooters or aren't as good as they used to be and want to blame others. Overall, there's a lot to be said about other problems affecting the enjoyment of online games. Crossplay has done a lot of good to let friends with different consoles or PC play together, and trying to blame and compartmentalize it instead of identifying and fixing overall problems is sad.
