The next Call of Duty entry is expected to arrive this year - and we've now got an official confirmation via social media and Activision Blizzard's latest financial report.
It confirms development of the 2022 entry is being handled by the team over at Infinity Ward, and that this "new generation" game is "coming soon".
In addition to the tweet, here's what Activision Blizzard had to say about the new COD in its Q4, 2021 financial results:
"Development on this year’s premium and Warzone experiences is being led by Activision’s renowned Infinity Ward studio."
According to previous leaks, this year's COD entry will reportedly be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare.
This announcement follows on from Microsoft's news that it would be acquiring Activision Blizzard for close to $70 billion. And if you're were wondering - the next three entries are expected to be on PlayStation.
Looking forward to this one? Tell us down below.

Pls have normal gunfite in it...
Perhaps this will be the last time Infinity Ward will be a CoD factory, too.
Even though MS won’t officially own them when this comes out, I wonder if they’ll work something out to get this on GamePass as part of the deal.
Cautiously optimistic. I was enjoying Modern Warfare 2019 when they completely dropped support for the game in favor of Warzone. Hoping they have their priorities straightened out a bit more this time around so they don't up and quit supporting the game at least until next year's model.
Couldn't have possibility seen that coming!
@BrilliantBill IW was only good up until MW2 after that their CoD games were horrible. Treyarch has been the only good consistent one.

Considering PlayStation has the marketing rights, it's highly unlikely.
The leaked RE: Village marketing deal documents shows Sony include a clause to prevent any subscriptions services such as Game Pass until the marketing deal expires.
@GamingFan4Lyf if they aren't making anymore cods I will be sad infinity ward make the best ones
Cant wait to see some gameplay.
@GamingFan4Lyf Here's hoping!
So much talent at that studio stuck making iterative COD games. Would LOVE to see what they could do with a blank canvas.
@thegamingduck, they are not abandoning COD in anyway shape or form, it's just not gonna be an annual franchise anymore, maybe every 2-3 years, and of course Warzone the moneyprinting machine which they keep running, that frees up a lot of developers to go pursuit the treasure chest of ip's activision, at least that's my hope for the future.
Infinity Ward CoDs are the only ones I care about, the others always just feel off. Played the first free MP weekend for the MW reboot and purchased it there and then. Played Cold War and Vanguards free weekends and didn't bother.
@blinx01 I hate this fact.
It'll be quite a while still before the standard COD cycle ends.
I'd say another 4-5 years before these studios can move onto other things
@thegamingduck @BrilliantBill I haven't played a CoD since MW2.
CoD should just live on in Warzone and let that be that - give all of these CoD factories a chance to spread their wings.
How many times will Infinity Ward save the series - I am sure they love the position they are in
I loved almost every call of duty game only cold war and vanguard kinda let me down.
With the next call of duty i want more coop missions to play with Friends crossplay.
It won't happen, but I really want to return to the Infinite Warfare setting. I liked the characters and the ideas it had. Loved being able to go from the ground to air/space battles without loading too.
@TheSilverFalcon iw makes the best cods
