Although we didn't include it in our initial roundup of 50 games to look forward to on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in 2023, we're definitely still keeping a very close eye on Wanted: Dead. The game releases in just over a month on February 14th, and based on what we've seen so far, it looks like a fun time.
The game is being advertised as "from the makers of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive", as there are former developers from both those franchises on the team, so there are hopes that this could be a highlight of the early 2023 lineup.
So, what's it about? Basically, as you can see in the new combat trailer above, Wanted: Dead takes the form of a hybrid slasher/shooter game, where you'll play as a Hong Kong cop as you attempt to "plow through mercenaries, gang members and private military contractors in a spectacular cyberpunk adventure."
Wanted: Dead is now available for pre-order on the Xbox Store at a price of £49.99 / $59.99, and it supports Smart Delivery across the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions. You'll find more details below!
"Wanted: Dead is a new hybrid slasher/shooter from the makers of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. The game follows a week in life of the Zombie Unit, an elite Hong Kong police squad on a mission to uncover a major corporate conspiracy. Play as Lt. Hannah Stone, a hardboiled Hong Kong cop, and plow through mercenaries, gang members and private military contractors in a spectacular cyberpunk adventure."

I am getting huge Devil's Third vibes from this.
I'm a huge Ninja Gaiden fan. Both old and "new". So this one looks really cool.
You can call this Devil's Third 2 !!
Love it 😍
Cant wait for this game, hell yeah
I have a feeling this game is gonna get lost in the shadow of Atomic Heart
These screens look like one of those Gameloft mobile games that copies the look of PC shooters from 2002 but somehow come away feeling more generic than the originals that were already generic AF.
For everyone unfamiliar with the drama, the real Itagaki behind Tecmo's old Team Ninja games quit in 2016 and founded Valhalla, taking some Team Ninja staff with him. The actual Team Ninja at Koei-Tecmo went through a rough patch after, but they're on track now with Nioh, Wo Long, Stranger of Paradise, etc. Meanwhile Valhalla crashed out with Devil's Third and a Vita game, Itagaki quit and started a new studio now called Apex which is now working on.....an NFT game......
..........
...
Meanwhile, Valhala and another company got bought out by a parent company, merged them together into the other half of that company now called Soleil, which is this company, and the whole thing was purchased by Tencent.
Long story short this is a Tencent-made game by a subsidiary they bought that consisted of stragglers left from Valhala that at one time were at Tecmo after Itagaki himself packed up and left name dropping Ninja Gaiden and DoA for marketing.

Thanks for covering the game. Have this at the top of my most-wanted list, I miss those original Xbox era action games and can't wait to give this a try.
Parrying, combos, "button mashing won't work"...the fighting game lover in me is going crazy. This could be my perfect game outside of that genre!
I'm one of the only people in the world who loved Devil's Third. I really enjoyed the mixed gameplay mechanics and cannot wait for this game for the same reasons.
It looks and plays like a throwback action game, if it reviews well I might take another look.
