@theduckofdeath obviously reviews are different for people’s preferences. But a well reviewed game a week/few days in advance can help to build up interest. (Especially since it’s a more niche title)
You would hardly know this game releases day 1 on Gamepass tomorrow there has been such little marketing.
360 to have alongside ps3, as these came out at the age where I was working so had the income.
Had two 360 with rrod. So skipped xbone, as they had lost my goodwill. Came back with the S as it was a great price and could catch up with games I’ve missed.
For months MS has been saying sales are going to slow, along with reported stalling of subscription.
My question always comes back to, why aren’t people picking Xbox? It has the cheaper console, it has GPU, it has the most powerful console, it has some of the biggest franchises.
So why aren’t people buying it? Especially in advance for CoD etc. it’s not just the reason of well the joneses have a ps5 so we should. There has to be more to it.
@HonestHick see I’m the other way round. I loved perfect dark on the n64, but I worry now it’s going to get a little lost on Xbox, just due to the sheer amount of shooting games available, plus the entire CoD franchise most likely being available by then.
Hope I’m wrong, multiplayer 4screen used to be a blast
@NEStalgia I believe there is a place for subscription. I just don’t think it’s fully settled where it needs to be… currently I think EA might be doing it best, where they hit 6months later.
Would GP work better if it was smaller? Just the MS owned stuff, no 3rd party?
I fully get that yes per casual they may get more money, but that is also offset by the ‘gamer’ using points/cheap codes etc.
For me that I’m most interested in, is what comes under the costs header for GP? Is stuff like starfield a development costs part of it? Is the hosting of cloud/servers etc? Or do MS hide these costs in other departments?
It’s a tough one. GP has its place and its great value most months.
But even with day 1 things, even a well awaited day 1 huge Bethesda release, console exclusive, still didn’t shift the needle then MS must be looking at it and think what will?
Sure CoD may be ‘free’ on GP compared to £70 on PS, but casuals aren’t going to run out to buy a series X and GP, if they already own a PS. ( yes sure you can access CoD on whatever plays it, but they would ant like for like)
Truthfully did anyone think it would stay at this price?
Everyone knew it was a loss leader funded by MS deep pockets.
But as other articles show, subscriptions (MS/Sony) aren’t growing, so of course they will increase prices. It’s literally copying the playbook of Netflix.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate yet it hasn’t increased by those numbers as we all know. They just bundled in the gold subscribers.
Everyone said starfield would boost it. MS even said it added the most in a day ever. Price has gone up in the last year, loopholed have closed, rewards less generous. Yet in the US, in the last year revenue has increased 1% in subscriptions.
So I’ll use the available data and not the made up maths.
Subscription hasn’t grown in a couple of years. Even with AAA day 1 offerings people still aren’t joining up. Starfield didn’t even boost it. (USA is up 1% YoY).
It’s MS, they didn’t become a multi trillion dollar company by being our friends. It was obvious to anyone that included Phil ‘Gamer’ Spencer. He is as much a suit as the rest, except wears a T-shirt.
It will move more towards Microsoft gaming or w/e. Hence the recent foray into multi platform. Also Microsoft upper management will have noticed that Xbox revenue has dropped (once you strip ABK) YoY. Xbox are missing their (frankly ludicrous) GP targets. To name but a few, so of course they will look at what they can change.
But we will still have Xbox games etc. they ain’t going anywhere
Seems very strange after picking it as one of the ‘test’ games to go multi platform and appeared to be doing well.
It’s a shame while the music in the game was not to my personal taste I could still appreciate how good hifi rush was, one of the best MS has released in recent years.
Going to Show shattered space, update for forza, the previously announced games with dates, probably more elder scrolls online. CoD, with the big games of this year to still be released, I don’t think we will see much for next year.
I’ll probably jump back in at a later date, once most of the QoL features are finished.
Have it a good 70hrs on my first play through. But the more I played the more disappointing it became. Was a steady 7-8/10. If I had paid £70 I wouldn’t have felt dissatisfied. But I’m not in a rush to jump back in either, never once felt like I’ve missed playing it. Unlike say Skyrim or fallout or FF.
@BAMozzy just forgetting that you need to buy the console/PC to compare huh? And the fact that £60 to buy essential also comes with many free (as you call them) games.
If you own a PlayStation, you already most likely will have essential. You are not going to go out and buy an Xbox (£200-£500) or a PC and a GPU subscription (£150per year) if you know the game is going to hit PlayStation.
Currently it’s worth having both consoles to get everything, but if (and it’s still a big if) games go to PlayStation there’s less desire to go out and buy an Xbox. Why not have the PlayStation, get the PS exclusives and then the Xbox games at a later date. Or a pc and have both.
You may be able to play GPU on any device but 90% of the time it’s on a terrible version, lag and so on. And a Rog ally is what £500?

Re: Hellblade 2: Release Date, Release Times & Preload Details On Xbox Game Pass
@FraserG thanks for that.
Thought they would do reviews today.
I get it’s a niche title but for a first party release you would think they’d want to get impressions out, as I do believe it will review well
Re: Hellblade 2: Release Date, Release Times & Preload Details On Xbox Game Pass
When do reviews drop
Re: Xbox Game Pass Will See 'Changes' When Call Of Duty Arrives, Rumours Suggest
Potentially 3 tiers?
Core (stays as is)
Standard (certain day 5 games, other stuff 3-6month behind?)
Ultimate ( everything day 5)
That’s my guess. Probably standard becomes £12 And ultimate £15.

I started up unicorn overlord last night so dive into that properly I think
Re: Talking Point: Rockstar Fans, How Hyped Are You For GTA 6?
I want to play it on release.
But how can I be hyped for something that is 18months away, and basically seen nothing on it?
Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Can Be Played Offline, Confirms Ubisoft
All just so even if it arrives on your doorstep a day or 2 early you can’t play it
Re: Rumour: Xbox Planning To Bring More Games To PS5, Despite Some 'Unease' At Microsoft
Has anyone been round to Phil’s gaff to do a welfare check? Guys been mighty quiet recently.
Not even bigging up the upcoming release?!
Re: Activision Is Opening A New Studio To Build 'Genre-Defining' Games At Microsoft
Seems very strange as you often read Xbox players don’t want/ like the Sony narrative experience games.
So sounds like they have an uphill task!
Re: Microsoft Unveils New Xbox Accessibility Controller, Pre-Orders Live
I hope that this works well for those who need it so they can enjoy more gaming!

Re: Talking Point: 10 Years On, Have You Ever Played The Elder Scrolls Online?
I tried it for like 10hrs. It’s not bad, but as others have said, I jumped in late and it’s overwhelming just too much stuff going on.
But then I love FF way more and still can’t find the time to do ff14 as there is just so much to it now.
MMO is just hard to keep up with if you start late.

Re: Poll: As Hellblade 2 Draws Near, What Do You Think Of The First Game?
Wasn’t for me. It was just a little too slow.
But it looked great, atmosphere was too.
I’m sure the sequel will look stunning and I hope those that play it enjoy it.
Didn’t score it, as no option for tried it but not for me.

Re: Former Microsoft Exec Gives 'Two Reasons' Why Xbox Closed Bethesda Teams
@Krzzystuff saying something isn’t law. Unless it’s signed on a contract somewhere there’s not much you can do about it.
MS would argue that the situation has changed etc etv
Re: Xbox Reportedly Considering Game Pass Price Hike To Accommodate Call Of Duty
@NEStalgia GP might be profitable as is, but that is probably because a large % of costs will be being absorbed elsewhere.
Re: Random: Phil Spencer Is Getting Trolled In Fallout 76 Following Xbox Controversy
@NEStalgia beat me to it. I thought the silence is the strangest point. Every other time he has been front and centre.
Re: Xbox Is Reportedly 'Considering' Hellblade 2 For PlayStation 5
@Sifi you should go for a job in Microsoft PR. You would be excellent at it.
Every single comment is turned into well Sony is doing this or that.
Sadly if the only argument you have is deflection, then it more often means the company you are trying to defend is cocking up.

Re: Xbox Is Reportedly 'Considering' Hellblade 2 For PlayStation 5
First one was on there, so it’s a pretty logical choice, as it’s another type of game that won’t have people flocking to GP.
Re: Xbox Apparently Still Needs Smaller Games For 'Prestige And Awards'
So Sony shoot themselves in the foot last weekend, this week MS seem to be shooting themselves in both feet.
Re: Report Claims Xbox Is Planning More Cuts Following Studio Closures
It’s taken a few years to go through Bethesda, so you would assume there is a good chance parts of ABK could be shuttered.

Fingers crossed if true, it’s a small price rise.
Re: Subscription Services Like Xbox Game Pass Appear To Have 'Stalled' In The US
@Dydreamr this information shows that it’s affecting both PS/MS it’s not just MS.
But there has been news out of Xbox itself where Phil didn’t receive his bonus for GP as it hadn’t hit the targets (frankly they were unacheivable)
Re: Subscription Services Like Xbox Game Pass Appear To Have 'Stalled' In The US
@Trmn8r they don’t store up all the bad news wait for MS/Sony to do something stupid then think let’s add to it!
You need to put the tinfoil hat away.
This is readily available data, it’s data that many of us have been aware about.
Re: Subscription Services Like Xbox Game Pass Appear To Have 'Stalled' In The US
@Ricky-Spanish it’s still great value currently?

Something is going to give somewhere.
Re: Tango Gameworks Founder Responds To Xbox Shutting Down Studio
@lacerz it’s probably that the games aren’t getting more people to sign up/stay signed up.
Most information has shown that GP (and Plus) has been relatively flat in terms of growth recently.
2million is great for that kind of game.
Re: Random: Xbox Drops 'Feel The Burn' Tagline On New Controller After Four Studio Closures
MS probably should have given the studio closures a day before revealing more stuff, as no matter what it is it wouldn’t be received well.

Good to see people defend it. Sometimes when a company does something ***** they can be criticised.
I hope those affected find work as some of these guys/girls are clearly talented.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets scammed into these deals. Those who may not be as wise to deals on the store etc

On the games it works on its great, one of the best things this gen.
There’s just too many games that it doesn’t work on which is a shame.

They have to be, because 3 of the 4 major releases for this year won’t have arrived. Plus Starfield expansion.

Probably true as the ps5 version has been dropped to £15 physical, usually when that starts happening it hits one of the subs.
