In recent months, Microsoft has started to experiment with launching some of its exclusive games on other consoles, with Grounded, Hi-Fi RUSH, Pentiment and Sea Of Thieves all now playable on other platforms. We're yet to really see how Microsoft's experiment will play out in the long run, but it sounds like there could be more to come from Xbox.
This month, the team's first major exclusive of the year is launching in the form of Ninja Theory's Hellblade 2 on May 21st. And, according to The Verge, Microsoft is already thinking about whether its upcoming third-person adventure should come to PS5 as well. Here's an excerpt from the outlet's recent report on all-things Xbox:
"Xbox now has a strong lineup of games planned for 2024, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II set to debut in a matter of weeks on May 21st. I understand Hellblade II is another game that Microsoft has been considering for the PS5. If that ever happens, at this point, it’s not clear if even that would be considered a success."
Of course, it sounds like any potential PS5 port of Hellblade 2 would come further down the line, so we wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon. After all, the dev team would need time to work with the PS5 system and get everything figured out for a port - and that's if and when Microsoft would greenlight such a project too.
There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes right now, with reported debates about further PS5 ports, Game Pass price hikes, potentially more job cuts and more. If we hear anything official from Microsoft on future Xbox plans, we'll of course let you know.
