In recent months, Microsoft has started to experiment with launching some of its exclusive games on other consoles, with Grounded, Hi-Fi RUSH, Pentiment and Sea Of Thieves all now playable on other platforms. We're yet to really see how Microsoft's experiment will play out in the long run, but it sounds like there could be more to come from Xbox.
This month, the team's first major exclusive of the year is launching in the form of Ninja Theory's Hellblade 2 on May 21st. And, according to The Verge, Microsoft is already thinking about whether its upcoming third-person adventure should come to PS5 as well. Here's an excerpt from the outlet's recent report on all-things Xbox:
"Xbox now has a strong lineup of games planned for 2024, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II set to debut in a matter of weeks on May 21st. I understand Hellblade II is another game that Microsoft has been considering for the PS5. If that ever happens, at this point, it’s not clear if even that would be considered a success."
Of course, it sounds like any potential PS5 port of Hellblade 2 would come further down the line, so we wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon. After all, the dev team would need time to work with the PS5 system and get everything figured out for a port - and that's if and when Microsoft would greenlight such a project too.
There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes right now, with reported debates about further PS5 ports, Game Pass price hikes, potentially more job cuts and more. If we hear anything official from Microsoft on future Xbox plans, we'll of course let you know.
Would you be OK with Hellblade 2 going to PS5? Let us know what you think of this down below.

First one was on there, so it’s a pretty logical choice, as it’s another type of game that won’t have people flocking to GP.
Agreed it's one of those games I'd have no issue with going across - The Outer Worlds 2 and others where they're direct sequels to multi-platform games makes sense they stay multi-platform.
I bounced off the first Hellblade but a few people I know on PlayStation loved it, so feels weird they can't play it
@PsBoxSwitchOwner after that is gears then halo then indy and xbox dies. But all this is rumours and verge is not relaible source
im hype for ps6 but please make it more box like for all us xbox refugees ok.
Are they stupid?
They just did that, got criticism from the community and ended up closing the studio anyway. So why bother releasing games on PlayStation?
Just end Xbox division and become like Sega if they're so eager to become a multiplatform publisher.
Is hard to keep being positive towards Xbox when they're keep bringing negative news.
I usually don't believe in rumors, but recently rumors have been more trustworthy than Phil Spencer's words.
Good it's not going to do well with Xbox alone and considering if it's like the first one it will be mighty boring
Not surprised. I doubt MS will stay in the console hardware business after shutting down their only Japanese studio. Just go full third party at this point.
I've been saying that this would make the leap in the next 6 months or so following its release, with the reasoning being, 'Well, they had the first one'.
Then it will be Starfield in the Fall of this year, with the reason being, 'Well, it was meant to be on the PlayStation in the first place!'.
Then it will be Indiana Jones 6 to 12 months following release, with the excuse of, 'Well, it's a recognisable lead character'.
Then they will run out of excuses and just put everything on the PlayStation...
There is obviously something going on behind the scenes with the Xbox. I feel that they are probably going to release one more console and then they are done. It goes to Microsoft Gaming after that - software, no hardware.
One after another 😒. Hard to be an Xbox fan these days.
@Fiendish-Beaver this very well might happen. Plus it’s rumored that Gears of War Marcus Fenix collection will be announced at the June showcase and it will come to PS5 day and date. That is just a kick in the head to us Gears and Xbox fan’s. That is arguably Xbox’s biggest franchise. That trilogy sold over 40 million. It was a game if not the game that made millions buy a 360. Coming day and date would just be a huge insult to Xbox players and last but not least we will see Halo MCC on PS5 at some point. They are just tanking the brand. At this point they should sell it to Google, apple or anyone with the cash and they can re name it.
Not surprising.
I'm considering MYSELF for Playstation 5 at this point, so I understand...
I mean it's the kind of game PS players like. All graphics, short and story-based. No brainer.
@Fiendish-Beaver I don't even mind, but why keep lying to us...?
I'm still in the camp Xbox will not abandon consoles, but if it dies, it dies. I'll get the next console(s) they make. But if that is it. I'll probably just stay with that last console, play what I have whenever I want. And then maybe slowly bow out of the gaming hobby. I'm 42 now, so if I have another decade or two, that's fine with me.
How ironic is it that the Xbox was created to stop Sony from getting a monopoly only for now Microsoft considering handing them that monopoly and consumers begging them to do it.
Consoles and games are gonna be extra expensive if that comes to pass.
I have an Xbox Series X and I love it.
However, if in the future the Forza games and other Xbox games go to the Playstation there will be little point in buying a next gen Xbox console I will just buy a Playstaion 6.
A game with no microtransactions or live service elements
Zero marketing (this game comes out in two weeks!)
No physical release
Now it might come to other consoles.
All like Hi-Fi Rush.
With reports that more Xbox Studios are on the chopping block, I'm suddenly really worried for Ninja Theory.
Hahahahahaha they keep writing the same crap every time 😂😂😂😂 and you can never tell them oh you were wrong, cause they ll say we just said they were considering it,not that they will do it eventually. Ok, let’s keep the same energy on the world news arena ,according to sources the president of the USA is considering the possibility of nuking Europe. Just remember,I didn’t say he ll do it ,right?
Ninja theory next on chopping block
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah you were so right my dude. A random post from a site that’s almost every time wrong, proves you were right from the get go 😂😂😂
Honestly as long as MS focuses on maintaining the integrity of their platform I don't care what they do with their published games. I don't care about exclusives, lead the way, make an open gaming platform and lead by example, leave exclusivity nonsense to competitors.
Separate the platform from the publishing business. Publish Call of Candy: 76 all you want to. Keep that separate from running a successful open gaming platform and storefront. That would be cool too.
Problem is I don't trust them to do that either at all or at least with competence while corporate chases numbers like it's business tools.
Lets be honest, given what we know now. This studio has spent way, way, way, waaaaaayy too much money making a PC tech demo that might as well be funded by Nvidia instead of Microsoft. This game is going to be a sales disaster. We all know what happens to Ninja Theory after this "fails to meet expectations" now. It's EA circa 2010 all over again. Or maybe Xbox circa 2010.
@LX_FENIX Technically Xbox was created to prevent Sony from ruining Microsoft's monopoly on game development APIs. At the time DirectX kept all games bound to Windows and the rise of PS jeopardized that by making OpenGL equally viable. It mattered because keeping games locked to DX kept games locked to Windows, and gaming was a large driver of new PC sales and thus new Windows licenses. Xbox quite literally exists to keep devs bound to DX so they can sell more Windows licenses.
Today of course SteamOS, Android, iOS including Switch, Steam Deck, and Sony dominate and Windows 11 DoA. Soo.......mission failed.
It's not that big of a suprise. Didn't Phil Spencer say when he went on his shopping spree that he won't be taking games of existing IP's that were always there away from PlayStation? And the rest are a "case by case basis". This could be the first honest thing he's done where he actually delivered on a promise.
@evenstephen7
"Zero marketing (this game comes out in two weeks!)

All like Hi-Fi Rush."
That's so bizarre, this game seems like it would be so easy to market- HIGH END graphics- stellar motion capture, an eye catching title.
I still very much remember how good the 360 marketing was for games- Those GoW trailers were sublime
I'm in Healthcare, I don't pretend to be all knowledgeable on how to run a gaming division... BUT WHAT THE HELL MS????
It is the right way for XBOX to become a third party multiplatform company. XBOX could increase revenue and profit margin by selling first party games at a full price on PS/Switch. They could have day one releases on Game Pass, which will increase subs growth, and at the same time they could sales full price games in other platforms.
Phil Spencers has stated that they can't compete Playstation. Gamers won't sales their PS5 and join XBOX. It's pointless for Microsoft to waste resources and time to compete on "consoles wars" through exclusivity and hardware sales, when they have the choice to become a multiplatfrom software based company that could generate billions of dollars and profit through full price games, subcription services, cloud gaming, mobile games, GaaS and microtransactions.
I support Microsoft decision for XBOX to become a third party publisher. However, I don't support more restructure and layoffs. It's time for XBOX to flex its muscles by giving us quality games whether being AAA, AA, live services or indie titles.
It would follow the reasoning given for hi fi and pentiment. Smaller game, likely to review well, probably low player count. This is a good candidate for playstation next year.
Removed - trolling/baiting
Nothing having been announced, yet, @Chrisajax, is not the same as it not happening. The rumours of Sea of Thieves etc. being released on the PlayStation were circulating well before the games were announced as going. I honestly believe that it is a matter of time, but probably not that much time.
And just as you mock this site, and people that run it, for reporting what it being said, or what those that comment contrary to what you believe, will you return and admit you are wrong when it happens? Doubtful, I guess...
Out of curiosity, @Sifi, do you consider me a Sony fanboy?
That is absolutely it, @armondo36. Why not just front up and tell us exactly what is happening? If none of these games are going, tell us. If they are tell us. How hard is that?
@HonestHick If Gears goes over i'm fully done with Xbox lol. May sound like a childish thing to say but at this point it truly is the only franchise holding me on to the platform.
@FarmDog08 I hope you mean another decade or two gaming and not alive. 😂
@CallMeDuraSouka I'm not in gaming, but I am in marketing for major tech company with a very famous public face, and these moves absolutely astound me. I've honestly never seen anything like it from this size of a blue-chip brand.
I'm right in the target audience demo and I haven't seen so much as a lowstakes YouTube or display ad. But I don't feel like I've seen much of a push for any Xbox game this gen, and barely a push for the system in general (outside of the pre-launch "power your dreams" campaign).
They just need to make sure it runs better on PS5 first. 😂
@__jamiie hahaha, me too!
@FatGuyInLilCoat i understand. I am in the same boat. I just don’t love the PS controller. But Gears is Xbox like Mario is Nintendo. For that to leave the platform it’s a no brainer many Xbox players will leave for PS. Then if MS is dumb enough to enhance Gears on the PS5 Pro and have it be the best looking console version. I mean what are we doing here?
@Sifi you should go for a job in Microsoft PR. You would be excellent at it.
Every single comment is turned into well Sony is doing this or that.
Sadly if the only argument you have is deflection, then it more often means the company you are trying to defend is cocking up.
@Fiendish-Beaver no dude, the rumours were talking about starfield, halo, gears,Indiana jones etc. not sea of thieves and three other irrelevant games. When they were debunked they went oh it will happen but not yet though😂😂😂😂
And I am not saying it will never happen,I don’t care either,I have a ps5,a series x and a switch and just ordered my asus rog ally, but what I am saying is that just spreading out rumours about every game ,with no real info and just see what sticks in the end,is no journalism,it’s ridiculous
It seems pretty inevitable if you ask me, even without the rumours. It's a niche game many will try and drop off, same as the first one (which I loved, especially the sound design).
Simply isn't going to pull in the numbers they want.
@LX_FENIX monopoly isn’t an appropriate word to use if Xbox goes away as Sony just has the only console in the serious console space. A monopoly is more akin to an entity outright buying out the market for any respective industry. Sony doesn’t have software money like the Xbox brand is backed by to buy up the gaming industry.
@Fiendish-Beaver that's the thing for me. The over ten years now of boldface lying..
@Ricky-Spanish
Totally agree, might as well put it on PS5.
It definitely isn’t going to do anything for game pass or console sales Xbox wise.
Im perfectly fine with this.
@OldGamer999 Exactly at this stage who cares I'm sure it will tell an important story and be a technical Marvel for powerful enough machines but at shipping sales on Xbox that won't happen get it out there and hopefully put that money into Xbox brand games development that will hopefully be exclusive to Xbox
@Ricky-Spanish
We can but hope.
Of course this will go to Playstation, they're all going to Playstation, as I've said since Feb. When rumors ran wild for a month, and they finally held a pre taped conference to answer the question "Is Starfield going to Playstation?" with "It's not one of the first 4 games," the game is over.
It's all just a matter of when. How fast will they boil this frog, as somehow there are still large parts of the community that don't realize what's happening (thus things like this article existing).
You don't need a rumor or a source on this. It's unfolding right in front of you.
You need to go back and look at those rumours, @Chrisajax. The 4 games that went were among those games that were being spoken of prior to the announcement. Now, it's true that Starfield, etc. have not gone as yet, but it is worth noting that there was a massive storm that arose as a consequence of the rumours. People were massively upset at the prospect of Starfield etc. porting to the PlayStation, so it is entirely possible that Microsoft rowed back on their initial plans. Maybe those 4 games then went were part of the package of games intended to go, and not the only 4 games. However, now that some of those games (SoT in particular) have sold extremely well, there is little doubt that the floodgates will open. It makes sense from a business prospective to offer your games to as many markets as possible. Whether it harms Xbox (in terms of consoles) is an entirely different matter...
The thing is, @OldGamer999, yes, it's one game, but there are ramifications; it is effectively one less reason to own an Xbox.
When it comes to games. why do people buy a particular brand of console? You buy a PlayStation if you want to play Final Fantasy 7, Uncharted, God of War, or The Last of Us (among others).
You buy an Xbox if you want to play Gears of War, Halo, Forza, Hellblade 2, Sea of Thieves or Hi-Fi Rush. No. Wait! Not those last three, they're on the PlayStation too.
Point being, each one time exclusive that ends up on the PlayStation is one less reason to need an Xbox. Why buy a console that has no exclusives, when you can play those same games, and exclusive ones on a PlayStation?
Each exclusive that then becomes non-exclusive is effectively a nail in the coffin that is the Xbox console. Sure, Xbox as a brand can live on healthily as a third-party publisher, but you'll be playing their games on either a PlayStation or a PC, not an Xbox because there is only so long that Microsoft will support a failing console.
Ultimately, every title, big or small, is important to the Xbox. Every single one of them, whether they are of interest to you as an individual or not...
@EvenStephen7 It's really bonkers, especially if it makes no sense to a person literally in marketing......
Gaming is upside-down
I want Xbox consoles to continue and I want them to survive and actually do well. Even if they are never first place. I don’t care about that, third place is fine! So for that reason I don’t think they should put any of their single-player focused games on Playstation (including and especially Halo and Gears).
In my opinion even Pentiment was a bad idea to port. It is all taking away from their exclusive library.
And yet… they seem to really wanna ***** do it.
And for the record it’s not because I want to take away from Playstation players. At all. It’s just that I can see this killing Xbox. And if someone really wants to play Gears and Rare Replay and Starfield, I really would have liked if they bought an Xbox to support… not the trillion dollar company, but Xbox itself.
Also also: why didn’t they just keep everything exclusive except for the entirety of ABK. Surely the multiplatform revenue from ABK (plus Mojang and Zenimax Online) would be enough? Thick.
Might as well at this point, is not like Hellblade 2 is going to make people run out and subscribe. Is a movie type game, not exactly the genre Xbox fans are known to love 🤷
@Fiendish-Beaver
Unless there is some sort of Xbox console momentum miracle, the writing is on the wall at Microsoft HQ.
To me I thinks it’s done and will go down as a moment in gaming history and Xbox consoles are no more and Microsoft Games become a full reality.
I absolutely agree, @OldGamer999, though it seems that many have their heads in the sand and are blissfully unaware of the consequences of what is taking place. As someone that absolutely loves his Xbox console, all of this makes me terribly sad. It is a turning point in history, but now that the downward spiral has taken hold, it is only a matter of time before the console is nowt but a distant (and fond!) memory...
Death of Xbox consoles ....own playstation and an Xbox....but I have always preferred Xbox...and if they do release another Xbox I will get it simply because I've invested so much in Xbox already ....but for any new gamers it is seemingly a no brainer to get a playstation instead with the way things look like they are going
Came for the usual "the world is ending "comments, not disappointed! 😂 For all these folks screaming about abandoning Xbox consoles, you know MS makes more money if you don't buy the console right? You're tantrum isn't hurting anyone.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate I tend to agree with you except I believe MS will continue to push out consoles as long as they are relevant. They've committed to the next generation already and it's debatable if there will be one after that. Plus, they could continue to offer a "free console" with a GP subscription and/or a GP with a slight higher monthly fee.
Gamers need Xbox and Playstation to compete with each other. If there's only one console (Playstation), Sony has no reason to make any first party IP games and can just rely on 3rd party support.
Case in-point: Steam. Valve stopped making games long ago.
The opposite would be Nintendo, who's console is so weak that third party support is horrendous and they NEED to crank out high quality first party games on a consistent basis to maintain business.
@Moby Being a multiplatform company doesn't mean the XBOX will stop making consoles. Console is just another option to join XBOX ecosystem, and it's the only way to have Game Pass as a console gamer. Microsoft needs all kind of platform to sale her products, which is console, mobile, cloud, "rival" platforms(steam, PS, Switch). This is the way for high profit margins.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate agreed and that is where they are shifting. I just think consoles are quickly becoming irrelevant. Nvidia is a good example of streaming for the future. Even the low price tier in the GForce app is solid!
@Moby Consoles will not be the dominant force in gaming for the near future. PC gaming is making a huge comeback, while mobile games have the biggest spending in the industry. We will soon have smartphone with better hardware than PS5/Series X. Microsoft has already announced the new xbox mobile store that they will combined it with the new xbox handheld device. A new handheld device and a new mobile store combined with the development of cloud gaming will make XBOX games and Game Pass to be available on 3 billion consumers.
Like Sea of Thieves being in development for PS4/PS5 THIS TIME LAST YEAR....... of course a PS5 version of Hellblade 2 is in the works months ago (and of course the article makes it look like a port is being considered or started work recently).
Phil and Xbox didn't buy all those PlayStation dev kits for nothing.
@Lup The "short" part? Nah. Uncharted Drake's Fortune came out 17 years ago and was still 10 hours long. Things have changed a little since then in their game lengths lol.
@andrewsqual Your other comment got removed,
I've always been here and only had one account, what are you on about? I've been quiet and Xbox has been awesome. I have a family and I've been enjoying a Discord community at the weekends, I don't play Xbox a lot currently, only at weekends also I don't use websites as much currently, chill out!
