Re: Forza Motorsport Update 6 Changing 'Car Progression' Next Month

robe

All sounds good, I've gone from initially liking the existing progression system to somewhat annoyed by it. I think this new way will be better for most players.

I'd still like to see VR added though, I love the way this game drives but VR adds so much to a racing sim, this is probably the main reason I don't play more Forza Motorsport. I appreciate I'll be in the minority here.

Re: Reaction: Forza Motorsport Should Be Feeling The Pressure After New Gran Turismo 7 Update

It wouldn't be a Forza thread without @InterceptorAlpha complaining about the car levelling up mechanic

As for the split screen which personally I wouldn't get much use from, I completely agree that this is a really nice feature to have and support those who would like it.

However, this game fails on the basics, I've had to re-race so many of my career mode races due to the game crashing it's getting beyond ridiculous. What makes it worse is the collective media, including PureXBox, barely aknowledge the issues and I wonder if they're even playing the same game!

Re: Forza Motorsport Update 1.1 Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

robe

@theduckofdeath I've personally had the save game bug under variable network conditions, had the game crash to xbox dashboard. On PC I've had crashing to desktop and blurry graphics when using AMD FSR. I expect these issues were known to the developers on release, I suspect to release in this state was a business decision.

But other than that I've been enjoying the game, even though its far from perfect.

Re: Forza Motorsport Is Out Now, But The Forza Horizon 5 Community Continues To Grow

I'm enjoying FM but I agree with the others here, the game needs some patching before it can be considered really good.

Most of the noise is coming from the PC crowd, who seem to have all sorts of issues with performance and blurry graphics, not to mention crashes and save game bugs. After playing it on both platforms I can say the console experience is much better.

Re: Forza Motorsport Fan Bemoans The 'Non Stop Criticism' From The Game's Reddit Community

I'm enjoying the game and have been splitting my time between PC and SeriesX. My only grumble is that on the PC using AMD FSR 2.0 the game looked awful and the out of the box presets wern't to my liking, I can't remember the last time I had to spend so much time fiddling with a PC game to get the balance of Performance vs Prettyness correct.
On the SeriesX all of these problems go away

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like A Detachable Disc Drive For Xbox Series S?

robe

It would be nice, especially considering the devices detailed in the recent leak were disc-less.
Otherwise I like the suggestion of discs for codes that @__jamiie proposed.

Still, it'll be a sad day when everything goes digital only. High Street video game stores will be consigned to history, then while my wife shops for clothes I'll have nowhere to go.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying The Early Access For Forza Motorsport?

@ZuneTattooGuy funnily enough I cancelled my renewal last week. But isn't solely driven by microsofts recent decisions, I've got a lot of games on disc that I want to play and that doesn't require a gamepass subscription.

I've got credit until February to play anything that takes my fancy, which will include Forza, Starfield etc.

Re: Phil Spencer Gives His Thoughts On Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Series S Issues

@Jenkinss yes it could also be that, the reason I was thinking more about the GPU is simply, once the level and graphics assets are loaded into memory they could be shared for both players, similarly objects within the program/code could also be shared for both players. So, while doing my armchair analysis I figured that if 10GB RAM was enough for single player then it's likely not where the bottle neck is, as having a second player wouldn't mean loading in a whole new world but simply spinning up some extra objects in memory to represent the second player. Wheras the GPU has to pull double duty by rendering two seperate scenes, I figured this would have a similar impact as something like VR, where you're within the same game world but having to render a scene for each eye.
All that being said, if the memory is shared between the CPU and GPU then it could well be the amount of memory and how it's allocated that is part of the problem, due to the increased footprint from rendering two scenes.

Re: Phil Spencer Gives His Thoughts On Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Series S Issues

@ZuneTattooGuy I understand what you're saying in regard to the cloud, but there will be a large number of people who bought the Series S to pair with an older 1080p TV. Some of which won't have an internet connection suitable for game streaming and that wouldn't have been a consideration at the time of purchase. There is a big difference between having to be patient to download a game and trying to stream a game with a slow connection.

Re: Phil Spencer Gives His Thoughts On Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Series S Issues

Back in the good old days, say N64, the split screen graphics were noticably worse or a lower framerate than the singleplayer experience, so it must be more than simply the number of pixels being pushed.
Thinking this through, the issue is likely the XSS GPU which is roughly 1/3 the power of the GPU in the XSX. With a target resolution of 2560x1440 (roughly 40% of 4k) this is fine for single player games where the developer switches off a few effects, however when doing couch coop you need to render two scenes simultaniously, I suspect each half of the screen will require more than 50% of the available resources especially if you want to play with a reasonable level of prettyness.

Re: Phil Spencer Responds To Concerns Over New Xbox Enforcement System

From my experience the gaming world is less toxic than it was when I was playing Quake, Half Life, Counter Strike etc. As a concept it pretty similar to the getting points on your driving licence that many countries use, which generally works well, so I'm interested to see how this all works in practice.
As a parent it's nice to see a company trying to create a safe online space.

Re: Xbox Fans React Poorly As Big 'Store' Button Replaces 'Browse My Games' In Latest Update

robe

@Sol4ris writing off legitimate concerns regarding the direction of a loved platform, as bitter PS4 fanboys trolling is pretty weak.

I've been around long enough to have gone through other anticonsumer transitions and seen comments like, DLC is ok, season passes thats ok, loot boxes are fine just don't buy them, just ship an unfinished and buggy game then patch it. IMHO none of these things benefitted the end user, this most recent change by Microsoft is admittedly smaller but still following the same trend and it stinks.

Re: Microsoft Makes Welcome QOL Change To Store Wishlists On Xbox

robe

I'm kidding of course, but given the recent changes I wouldn't be surprised if there was a press release stating
"You've asked and we've listened, Xbox gamers like to be able to customise their dashboard, so we've moved the wishlist to the home screen and added some management features so you can add and remove entries."

Re: Talking Point: What Would Convince You To Use Xbox Cloud Gaming More Often?

robe

@Cashews @Moonglow I second that Samsung TVs have gone off the rails when it comes to smart features. Mine is slow, serves up ads and consantly wants to connect to my wife phone. The picture is fine and I've tried xbox streaming and that works OK with a dual shock 4, but honestly I wish I'd never bought the TV due to the awful and intrusive user experience.

Re: It's Finally Here! The New Xbox Dashboard Has Arrived

robe

Getting sick of ads tbh, it ruined the web and now it's ruining my xbox.
I can tolerate it when something is free as companies are there to make money, but I paid for this console and I also have to pay a subscription to play online. Makes me want to throw it in the bin and go back to PC gaming.
