I've been looking forward to this, but I'll wait until day 6 on gamepass. I don't want to encourage this early access nonsense any more than I want to encourage loot boxes and microtransactions.
I attempted to install it, then got annoyed with the launcher/CoD app and seemingly needing to install yet more stuff. I've now uninstalled the lot and vowed never to go back.
Of course, that's a bit of a juvenile reaction. But, I do wish they'd sort out the user experience of these things.
I think he's correct to be honest. Things are going to change and as gamers we have to accept that. But, are these changes going to be in the gamers best interest, or the corporations?
So he wants the same crap XBox dashboard full of advertisements on his PC... To be fair that'd be an improvement on the crap Xbox app they're currently peddling.
All sounds good, I've gone from initially liking the existing progression system to somewhat annoyed by it. I think this new way will be better for most players.
I'd still like to see VR added though, I love the way this game drives but VR adds so much to a racing sim, this is probably the main reason I don't play more Forza Motorsport. I appreciate I'll be in the minority here.
Sounds interesting and good luck to them. I’d rather CDPR continued to push their own limits and add new experiences to their games, otherwise they’ll stagnate and become irrelevant.
Initially I quite liked the car progression, but it's become a little tedious. It would be nice to to see VR to the list, but I suspect this will never happen.
Snap and an ad free dashboard for me. Kinect was cool and I got a lot of use out of it, just none of it was gaming related. But I don't miss it so much as other features.
@StylesT I remember the Internet before it became an ad infested shopping mall. We took the greatest knowledge sharing medium ever invented, then ruined it with greed.
@RBRTMNZ I can see your point and I understand other objections to this. But, I don't mind driving the stock cars for a few races and slowly improving them. Some of the cars in their stock config are awful, having to suffer or struggle to control the car for a little while makes me appreciate the upgrades more.
It wouldn't be a Forza thread without @InterceptorAlpha complaining about the car levelling up mechanic
As for the split screen which personally I wouldn't get much use from, I completely agree that this is a really nice feature to have and support those who would like it.
However, this game fails on the basics, I've had to re-race so many of my career mode races due to the game crashing it's getting beyond ridiculous. What makes it worse is the collective media, including PureXBox, barely aknowledge the issues and I wonder if they're even playing the same game!
@theduckofdeath I've personally had the save game bug under variable network conditions, had the game crash to xbox dashboard. On PC I've had crashing to desktop and blurry graphics when using AMD FSR. I expect these issues were known to the developers on release, I suspect to release in this state was a business decision.
But other than that I've been enjoying the game, even though its far from perfect.
I'm enjoying FM but I agree with the others here, the game needs some patching before it can be considered really good.
Most of the noise is coming from the PC crowd, who seem to have all sorts of issues with performance and blurry graphics, not to mention crashes and save game bugs. After playing it on both platforms I can say the console experience is much better.
@Halucigens I've had this issue fairly frequently after the update, I'd never seen it before. From what I can work out the cup progress isn't saved until the next race is started, whereas driver and vehicle progress save instantly.
I'm enjoying the game and have been splitting my time between PC and SeriesX. My only grumble is that on the PC using AMD FSR 2.0 the game looked awful and the out of the box presets wern't to my liking, I can't remember the last time I had to spend so much time fiddling with a PC game to get the balance of Performance vs Prettyness correct.
On the SeriesX all of these problems go away
It would be nice, especially considering the devices detailed in the recent leak were disc-less. Otherwise I like the suggestion of discs for codes that @__jamiie proposed.
Still, it'll be a sad day when everything goes digital only. High Street video game stores will be consigned to history, then while my wife shops for clothes I'll have nowhere to go.
@ZuneTattooGuy funnily enough I cancelled my renewal last week. But isn't solely driven by microsofts recent decisions, I've got a lot of games on disc that I want to play and that doesn't require a gamepass subscription.
I've got credit until February to play anything that takes my fancy, which will include Forza, Starfield etc.
@Jenkinss yes it could also be that, the reason I was thinking more about the GPU is simply, once the level and graphics assets are loaded into memory they could be shared for both players, similarly objects within the program/code could also be shared for both players. So, while doing my armchair analysis I figured that if 10GB RAM was enough for single player then it's likely not where the bottle neck is, as having a second player wouldn't mean loading in a whole new world but simply spinning up some extra objects in memory to represent the second player. Wheras the GPU has to pull double duty by rendering two seperate scenes, I figured this would have a similar impact as something like VR, where you're within the same game world but having to render a scene for each eye.
All that being said, if the memory is shared between the CPU and GPU then it could well be the amount of memory and how it's allocated that is part of the problem, due to the increased footprint from rendering two scenes.
@ZuneTattooGuy I understand what you're saying in regard to the cloud, but there will be a large number of people who bought the Series S to pair with an older 1080p TV. Some of which won't have an internet connection suitable for game streaming and that wouldn't have been a consideration at the time of purchase. There is a big difference between having to be patient to download a game and trying to stream a game with a slow connection.
@BrianRGI2X personally I'd say 1080p is fine, I'd even be happy with noticably worse graphics so long as the core gameplay was still good.
@Qwiff I suspect people would understand they'd bought a device that is significantly cheaper than the XSX and that in some places this will mean a compromise.
Back in the good old days, say N64, the split screen graphics were noticably worse or a lower framerate than the singleplayer experience, so it must be more than simply the number of pixels being pushed. Thinking this through, the issue is likely the XSS GPU which is roughly 1/3 the power of the GPU in the XSX. With a target resolution of 2560x1440 (roughly 40% of 4k) this is fine for single player games where the developer switches off a few effects, however when doing couch coop you need to render two scenes simultaniously, I suspect each half of the screen will require more than 50% of the available resources especially if you want to play with a reasonable level of prettyness.
From my experience the gaming world is less toxic than it was when I was playing Quake, Half Life, Counter Strike etc. As a concept it pretty similar to the getting points on your driving licence that many countries use, which generally works well, so I'm interested to see how this all works in practice. As a parent it's nice to see a company trying to create a safe online space.
@Sol4ris writing off legitimate concerns regarding the direction of a loved platform, as bitter PS4 fanboys trolling is pretty weak.
I've been around long enough to have gone through other anticonsumer transitions and seen comments like, DLC is ok, season passes thats ok, loot boxes are fine just don't buy them, just ship an unfinished and buggy game then patch it. IMHO none of these things benefitted the end user, this most recent change by Microsoft is admittedly smaller but still following the same trend and it stinks.
I'm kidding of course, but given the recent changes I wouldn't be surprised if there was a press release stating
"You've asked and we've listened, Xbox gamers like to be able to customise their dashboard, so we've moved the wishlist to the home screen and added some management features so you can add and remove entries."
I love the minority defending this but they're missing the point. Microsoft are treating you like a chump, these changes aren't for your benefit and it's all about monetisation. Your screen space has become their store front, rather than a convenient way to navigate to your games.
@Cashews couldn't agree more, my Samsung TV isn't the main TV for the house and was retailing at £500, but it also the only TV I've ever owned that I actively loathe using. It's slow, it tracks everything you do to make 'recommendations' and the user experience is idiotic. I could go into detail but this isn't really the forum for it.
@Cashews @Moonglow I second that Samsung TVs have gone off the rails when it comes to smart features. Mine is slow, serves up ads and consantly wants to connect to my wife phone. The picture is fine and I've tried xbox streaming and that works OK with a dual shock 4, but honestly I wish I'd never bought the TV due to the awful and intrusive user experience.
@Jenkinss @sd7232 Sounds like a neat idea, perhaps my master system was a later production run that didn't have them. I'll get on the web and see what I can find
Getting sick of ads tbh, it ruined the web and now it's ruining my xbox.
I can tolerate it when something is free as companies are there to make money, but I paid for this console and I also have to pay a subscription to play online. Makes me want to throw it in the bin and go back to PC gaming.
These side projects are neat and definitly make the gaming world more interesting, but I'd still be happier if they improved their current controller. Gyros, adaptive triggers and fixing stick drift spring to mind.
