What in the world is going on here?! Xbox never seems to run out of ideas when it comes to making cool new controller designs, but, its latest batch of Limited Edition pads go above and beyond anything we ever expected to see... and indeed smell.
To coincide with the upcoming 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem' movie, Xbox has created four controller designs that each come bundled with "a built-in scent diffuser shaped like a slice of delicious New York ‘za". And yep, that scent is "designed to deliver the smell of the Turtles’ beloved meal to your game time".

We've seen some stuff in our time covering Xbox, but a pizza-scented diffuser attachment for a controller is not something we thought possible, never mind something that actually comes out as an official Microsoft product. Unfortunately, this is a little bit too tasty for public consumption, so you won't be seeing these on store shelves anytime soon.
Instead, you'll have to enter to win one via Twitter, although the official competition post isn't live just yet. If you want your latest Xbox pad to smell like the Turtles' Pizza, it'll be worth keeping your eye on the official Xbox Twitter page in the coming days for more information on the sweepstakes competition.
Update: The competition is now live! Here's the all-important tweet:

"Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should"
"But why?" is the first thing that comes to mind.
I cant think of anything worse. Looks like a joke that they took too far!
Still, its a choice and I guess consumer choice is always of value - though I think we have quite enough controller choices..
As a huge turtles fan, I love it, even if it's a little out there. Too bad I can't just buy one.
This one will probably be worth something - boxed into the far flung future. edit: it is a gd contest. lame.
Sidenote: I'm not a turtle fan (never was) but me and my kids are pretty excited about the new movie coming out. A really killer art style and we laughed real laughs during one of the trailers.
Why does xbox always give em out as a competition prize?
@CutchuSlow It is how the movie marketing team + xbox wanted to do it. You don't get as much bang for your buck if you just sell them. That gets you very little visibility.
So I go back to ignoring it.
Eww wtf
"Shaped like a slice of delicious New York ‘za"
Imagina za scented controllers instead hahah
Something something more controllers than games.
They could have created a new model for Series X|S controllers or the Elite Series 3 that has a dedicated mute button with an integrated LED indicator. This way, users would have an intuitive and convenient way to mute their mic/audio while gaming or communicating with others. The illuminated mute button would serve as a clear visual cue, instantly letting players know when they are muted, avoiding any misunderstandings during gameplay or online interactions like I do everytime.
@Lightweight I hate all in-line microphone mute switches along headphone cords. I refuse to use them. I only use the mics that have the controller-bottom attachment with that easy to always find mute and volume buttons. I've even bought some extra ones in case these break and I'm to be forced into the in-line versions. No thank you
@Scummbuddy
I agree. I absolutely despise the way they designed the mute button on my headphones. It's incredibly obnoxious, inconvenient, and a terrible way to mute my mic. Having to take my hand off the controller just to mute my mic is beyond annoying.
On the other hand, I love how PlayStation handles the mute control on their controller. A single press mutes, and holding it down activates a full audio and mic mute. If only Xbox could implement this feature, it would be fantastic!
I'm genuinely surprised that Xbox hasn't added this functionality to Xbox Accessories. It would be great to have the option to use the back paddle and X button to mute effortlessly for example.
And your dog's new favorite chew toy is now, ding, ding, ding, your smells like a pizza Xbox controller. If you have a cat look under the sofa if you can't find your controller.😺
Absolutely not. Leave me alone.
Well this is unexpected and definitely not for me, but also why?
I'm pretty sure my friends invented it back in the early-mid 90's
@Cherip-the-Ripper
as a native NY'er (since left though) NO ONE calls it "za!"
As a fan, this is either brilliant or terrible.
This is one of those things you'll forget about in a few days, be brought up in random conversation years from now, and your mind will be blown that it did in fact exist.
@Spider-Kev yeah I was referencing ganja anyway.
You're originally from NY lol? How fitting
Xbox makes so many amazing special editions that are only availble to win, with like 1 ever made. They really need to start making special edition consoles, besides the Halo one (which I always felt was pretty tame an uninspired)
@Stoned_Patrol I truly don't get why MS and PS haven't done more special editions by now. The Series are such minimalist designs it should be easy to mass produce cool designs, and PS has a LOT of surface area. Kind of sucks
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Fitting?
In what way?
@Imback Xbox Has haptic feedback where xbox one released (2013) !
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2013/06/06/xbox-one-controller-feature/
@Spider-Kev because of your username
Finally they did it!!
Can’t believe we had to wait so long.
@JayJ Because... why not ???
That's why I like Microsoft : you have a silly idea ??
let's produce it !!
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Ah, okay.
@Imback yes it is! Haptic feadback is Vibrating to simulate what your finger feel... . The PS5 Controller has "Adaptive Triggers" thats not the same!!! And yes i have all the prev and current gen consoles including PS5
read it before you say silly things:
"Xbox One’s Wireless Controller sports four vibration motors – a small one behind each trigger that adds precise haptic feedback to the fingertip"
and so on
"Haptic feedback
Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons.
Adaptive triggers
Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions."
These side projects are neat and definitly make the gaming world more interesting, but I'd still be happier if they improved their current controller. Gyros, adaptive triggers and fixing stick drift spring to mind.
@Imback No im not wrong, thats official from 2013 tilltoday ! Its not poor haptic feedback its really awesome if developers use it. 4 motor , a low a high, and two trigger motor for the Impulse trigger. Just nobody use it today.( most gamers turnd off) Xbox Studios games are use it. Like in PS5, nobody use the Adaptive triggers, just some Exclusives and thats all.
