The Game Awards 2023 is now just over a week away, taking place on the evening of Thursday, December 7th, and Xbox is formally teasing "important announcements and other Xbox news that you don't want to miss" for the event.
This is apparently being sent out in an email across the world, and it reads as follows:
"Celebrate the best games of the year and the big winners live at The Game Awards on 7. December at 19:30 ET / 4:30PM PT / 12:30A+1 GMT along with important announcements and other Xbox news that you don't want to miss!"
What could this special Xbox news be? Well, it might just be alluding to the Baldur's Gate 3 release date that we've been promised, or perhaps Phil Spencer and his team have another big surprise up their sleeves for the show?! It could just be the announcement of various Xbox Game Pass titles that we often get at The Game Awards...
In any case, Xbox is clearly keen for us to watch The Game Awards next Thursday, and as always we'll be showcasing the livestream here at Pure Xbox - complete with a chatroom so you can discuss the show with other PX members. We'll also have a full recap of everything that was revealed during the event, so rest assured you won't miss anything!

I'd over the moon with a BG3 release date, some Game Pass announcements, and any sort of trailer for something first party. But those are probably quite high expectations.

It needs to be something along the lines of Xbox is getting its very own God of War or Uncharted or The Last of Us style game series that is exclusive to the Xbox but is very much a single player story driven game of those magnitudes. And nothing to do with Gears of War or Halo. Those games are fun, but not nearly as good as some other 3rd person style games. Those are the best games made.
Can we get another Burger King collab already? Seriously, where's the sequel to Pocketbike Racer? That would make the show!

BG3 news, ABK news, December’s Game Pass news, teaser trailer for a new game OR a new gameplay trailer and release date for one of the games coming in 2024. Cherry on top will be a shadow drop of a remastered game.

So without fail, a major backward compatible announcement is made every 2 years, as follows...
2015 - E3: Backwards compatibility announcement for xbox one
2017 - E3: Original xbox backward compatibility announcement for xbox one
2019 - Inside xbox: Batch of 31 back compat titles added
2021 - Xbox Anniversary Show: Batch of 76 back compat titles added
My prediction, based off a recent rumour is that....
2023 - Activision deal completed: Batch of Activision games added
(And I know you'll all say, "They have finished with back compat, they ended the program" but its been said before and then we saw another drop)

@MrMagic i wish it was the controller with the haptic feedback. I will go out and buy a few of those day one. But we know it’s not that. I do however want that all digital Xbox when it hit’s to go alongside my all digital PS5.
Probably the date in January they are dropping able to gamepass doubt they will give us them in December unless they were just lying before it not going to as big a announcement as they are making out
BG3 is amazing for anyone that managed to hold out. I was not one of them. If it hits game pass now I might have a mild stroke.
@HonestHick You lost me on the all digital but the controllers actually seem good and the awards would be a really good place to advertise them and get people talking.
As a Playstation guy I get jealous of how MS teases things and tries to build excitement. It's something Sony used to try and do until they got the market lead and now have there noises in the air. Hopefully MS announces something cool. I'm really wanting a solid Hellblade release date tbh.
@MrMagic im hopeful, but this is MS we are talking about and they don’t exactly build hype very well for their products in my opinion. Plus the leak said May 2024 for the new controller. So it’ early. Yeah i have been all digital since the start of the PS4. So i will gladly take the extra TB of storage over the disk drive. Plus it has some other nice features. Now what i really want to know about is the PS5 Pro. That has me excited. We are seeing glimpses of uncapped modes in the newer first party games. So when and if the Pro hit’s there will be games there to take advantage of the extra power.
It could very well be new Killer Instinct characters/content given the new Anniversary Edition & random balance patch that came out of nowhere. Would seem kinda pointless to make all these changes without adding more than 'holiday cosmetics'. Lot of people saying BG3 release date, but I'm hoping for them to drop the Series Enhanced update for Fallout 4.

@ZXS I thought they added the Bethesda games that hadn't after the program ended didn't they? I could be wrong, I doubt it's over if they do the Activision ones. So I can believe that it's just 'if they do'.
I just want to play Prototype 2 on there I bought it to play and also as bought up Infamous 1/Second Son (beaten)/First Light. If I can't get Pitfall Lost Expedition (got PS2 version right now) or Blur (got 360 version), TimeShift (PS3 version), Singularity and others on there I'll be disappointed but at least Prototype 2 or COD Big Red One/2 or others I do have access to buying but haven't (as don't own an OG Xbox but do a 360/Xbox One Kinect/One X/Series X so my BC focus is important for some games I don't have much benefit in buying from retro stores availability) then the others being future access.
If I can find 360 copies I'd swap them likely, sure starting again but eh. I questioned that for Lost Planet but held off as had the PS3 versions earlier then when seeing the 360 copies and didn't care that much to get both versions.
If they announce something cool sure, if not then pass. If Gears 6 or others then maybe. If game updates they better be good as I don't care for much at the moment.
If Activision BC nice, if some ok trailers for games soon maybe? If Gamepass ads pass, if something not thought of it depends.

Seriously though, it's probably Activision Blizzard games getting dropped into GP. While it is a no-brainer, it still needs to happen and be treated like a big thing that it it.

No wonder sales are garbage - exclusive GOOD games gets hardware under the television. Without those, u got nothing……….. and the xbox team produces nothing.

If GTA 6 gets anywhere near this show everything Xbox could do (unless it has something to do with GTA 6) will get drowned out with everything else.
This leads me to the theory that GTA 6 won't be at the game awards and will do it's on thing a few days after.
As for Xbox I think they will do some game announcements (like BG3), prob a bit more info for those 2024 games and if we are very lucky they may announce that new controller. A hardware announce seems unlikely though.
I'd expect dev direct again in early 2024 looking at games like Hellblade 2, Flight Sim 2024 and Avowed with a lot more on non announced projects and any new hardware in summer 2024.
