It's now been just over two years since Xbox Cloud Gaming first launched as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and it's ultimately come a long way in that time, adding support for consoles, TVs, the Meta Quest 2 and much more.
However, as impressive as it is to stream hundreds of Xbox Game Pass titles via the cloud, it seems as though a lot of players aren't actually taking advantage of it. Xbox's Sarah Bond recently admitted as part of the Activision Blizzard saga that Cloud Gaming is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate's least popular feature, and the majority of usage right now is apparently coming from console users - rather than across Android and iOS devices.
So, the question is why Xbox Cloud Gaming isn't more popular. In some cases, it might just be a choice thing — after all, most of us would rather access the native version of a game rather than its cloud-based counterpart — and in others, it's probably because connection speeds aren't always fast or reliable enough to effectively make use of it.
There's also the fact that Xbox Cloud Gaming only works with Xbox Game Pass games right now. Team Xbox has hinted at plans to make more titles available via the cloud in the future, but we haven't heard anything about this lately.
With all of this in mind, we're interested to know what would convince you to use Xbox Cloud Gaming more often. Better streaming quality? A wider range of supported titles? More games with touch screen controls? How about a dedicated Xbox handheld device? We'd love to hear your suggestions down in the comments section below.
What would convince you to use Xbox Cloud Gaming more often? Come tell us!
How Often Do You Use Xbox Cloud Gaming? (1,298 votes)
- All the time!
- Fairly often actually
- Now and again
- Quite rarely
- I never use it!

Cloud gaming just isn't reliable for me. It's weird, because we have access to high-speed internet, and normal video streaming, even at higher resolutions, works fine, but it's never quite... snappy enough for gaming to feel like a good option.
For me Microsoft or a 3rd party would have to build a really good handheld device that peaks my interest. I do have 1000mbps fiber internet so i would assume laying in bed and using the handheld device should be fast with little lag. But i just ain’t that interested in streaming over the cloud for the game types i like to play.
Outside of using it to complete reward objectives I use cloud when I'm "out and about" but obviously how effective that is depends on what signal I'm getting.
Which is kinda the bane of the whole cloud concept, no matter how great the tech is there is just so much outside the company and the customers control that makes it hard if not Impossible to play.
I tend to play turn based games over the cloud as it limits the problems like input lag.
Put game pass on the switch via cloud and I'm sure they would see a subscription bump if it worked well!
On that note put it native on the steam deck too!
I have 500mbps wifi at home which is more than capable of cloud gaming, however it still pixelates all the time, freezes and often lags. So even with super fast fibre optic it STILL struggles to cope. So firstly, THAT! Fix that and that’s a start.
The second would be to have access to ALL my library. I barely play anything from game pass so to restrict it to just that library is a bit of a disappointment for me especially if I’m going away from for a break and know I can’t play the games I ACTUALLY want to play while on the go means it doesn’t mean all that much to me.
I use it a fair amount. I like using it on steam deck and my phone, I also use it for a lot of the Microsoft rewards quests instead of doing a full on download.
It works great for my 3.5 year old nephew who doesn't have much of an attention span and just wants to hop into 5 minutes of every game.
I don't have many issues with streaming and my area of the US is not known for reliable high speed internet.
I've been noticing more wait times when launching lately saying servers are busy which it never used to have so I'm assuming it is growing.
I use it a decent amount and it works very well, but I have an Xbox so downloading a game will always be preferred.
I actually use Xcloud a fair bit, but I also know I am 100% the exception to the rule. I just did a speed test to check and I got 400 mbps on my phone’s wifi, and it’s probably even faster on my PC since that’s a wired connection. It’s good enough internet that I can play a fighting game like Guilty Gear Strive as if I were playing natively, which is saying something. I do generally prefer playing not on cloud, especially if I’m on anything but my PC because cloud’s a bit more iffy on my phone and Series S, but it does work well and I use it a fair bit as a result. I admit that 400 mbps is far from the norm and it was only a few years ago that I had more average US internet that probably couldn’t run Xcloud that well, so it makes sense why not many would use it.
Cloud gaming, including xcloud, works perfectly for me. I even use it to sample games I’m curious in but don’t want to download.
My problem is I hardly ever touch my Gamepass sub, so just having GP cloud gaming isn’t as useful. If they open it up so I can play my entire owned library on the cloud I’d use it a lot more.
I actually use it quite a bit. If it is a game I'm unsure about wasting the bandwidth on I play it over the cloud. Or if it is short and not graphic intensive I used cloud - on the console over the tv.
The only time I am disappointed with the experience is when there is a queue to play.
@Moonglow Please do NOT buy a samsung. Their smart features are abominable, it has bugs galore - it is a bad tv. I had to have it repaired after 2 months. They had to replace the entire electrical system. Get a Sony or anything else please. I've had a S95B for about 9 months and I hate it. Terrible, expensive television.
Microsoft's implementation of could gaming is pretty terrible on PC in my testing.
I actually retested just last weekend because I was curious. I have separately tested with both a GB fiber connection and 300Mbps cable connection and both product sub-par results.
At all times, most games have serious artifacts present under most types of motion. Frequently, there are resolution drops in games below an acceptable level.
Perhaps on a mobile device with a small screen it would be less of an issue but when using a full sized display it is not playable for me.
I'm without a TV/monitor right now, my Xbox is uninstalled so I'm using Xcloud quite a lot. I feel that when I'm playing on my phone or iPad it's laggy but it's fine on my laptop. But just like @abe_hikura I tend to play turn based games to avoid any trouble
@Cashews Plus unless something has changed, last time I checked Samsung still didn’t have Dolby Vision. That’s what kept me away when I upgraded my TV at the start of the gen.
I wish it were available in my region. I would be all over it. I use GeForce Now quite often for games that aren’t on xbox(yet?). It amazes me every time how good it’s. It’s not perfect but quite serviceable. Game Pass Cloud would be amazing to have
Nothing. Cloud game streaming has never pleased me, I'd rather play it on the Xbox.
my connection isn't good enough for cloud gaming.
so end of the story for me.
My not using cloud gaming was one of the reasons I switched my sub from Ultimate to PC. I happily paid for Ultimate when I was playing on Series X because I also needed Gold. On PC, all Ultimate got me (besides the games obviously) was cloud gaming and perks, neither of which I ever used.
I'll echo what others have said and say that game streaming just isn't reliable or responsive enough. And I have a feeling that, as gaming technology itself continues to evolve in the future, internet infrastructure, speeds and connection reliability will never catch up to where they need to be to make cloud gaming a viable way to play games.
IMO cloud gaming is pointless unless you're on the go.
That said, if you're on the go a Steam Deck or a Switch is a better choice so you don't have to deal with spotty internet.
Not to sound US-centric, but the US has some of the worse internet coverage in the world. But hardlined and wireless. That combined with the laughable data limits most ISPs/phone providers have makes it pretty limited to use there.
That said, I've personally had issues getting a consistent experience even when using to-home fiber. The number of connections lost I'll get coupled with the latency between input and what you see, limits it to only being good for slow or turn based games.
I mostly use it for the gamepass quests. But if they could reduce the input lag to almost nothing and find a way to get an official app onto something like a steam deck then I would definitely use it more often.
Better input latency like GeForce NOW and Stadia, though it seems to be much better as of late, so I might try GTA V with it
Other suggestions would be better stability, and even just slightly better image quality
Better broadband infrastructure would probably help. Not really MS fault, but for now it’s too early for cloud to be massively used.
Once it is playable without lag and so forth then it will be used more
If the games looked and played 100% identical to playing them natively. Until streaming gets to that point I'm not interested in streaming games. You can tell the games look degraded and compressed, and also can feel lag and latency issues.
Nothing it's terrible
@Cashews @Moonglow I second that Samsung TVs have gone off the rails when it comes to smart features. Mine is slow, serves up ads and consantly wants to connect to my wife phone. The picture is fine and I've tried xbox streaming and that works OK with a dual shock 4, but honestly I wish I'd never bought the TV due to the awful and intrusive user experience.
Nothing, zero interest in cloud gaming.
I only use it for Rewards Points Quests.
Game pass quests and testing out games is where I use it. I find it works well enough for the things I use it for but where it works best are the simpler games which tend to be a 90 second download anyway.
It is frustrating to see cloud gaming as the future of gaming. It gives the video gaming companies no value and gives the consumers no benefits of ownership. The Steamdeck is giving a bit of hope for the gaming industry to be surviving right now and the possibilities of younger gamers to experience of what is now and not yesterday way of gaming. Finger crossed, let's hope Nintendo's next innovation is something unexpected and the world is not ready for, but gives a breath of fresh to a dying industry
streaming video games will never be as good as running games on your own hardware and in the long run streaming will cost you more than hardware.
i'll go where the hardware is.
Absolutely nothing would convince me. If it isn't offline capable, I'm not interested.
I use it a lot to get my ESO dailies done on steam deck. What would really boost my usage of it though is being able to use it for PC versions of games. Be they ESO or otherwise.
Latency sucks on Cloud. Stadia may have been a joke of a service but the cloud gaming speed just felt light-years ahead. I'd prefer a dedicated handheld with games downloaded so I can take it on trains and flights that have slow / expensive / non-existent wifi. The online multiplayer via cloud is also pretty poor. I've struggled my way through Halo Infinite challenges and lost every round because of how slow it was. I've got the Kishi and also the controller grip, both great devices but couldn't help overcome the lag from the service. It's no wonder it's under used. Just 2-3 bad experiences are enough to turn people off.
It works good on mobile. I just want Microsoft to make a Gamepass Surface Deck. Cloud & Local.
@Kilamanjaro
I've heard this a lot but on the (admittedly few) occasions I tried xCloud and Stadia, both on the same connection, I found Stadia performed and looked worse. Although, the two games I tried on Stadia were PUBG and Destiny 2, while the ones I tried out on xCloud were "offline" games, so maybe that was a factor.
This is easy, send Microsoft to my local area to kick it in the butt and increase local internet speed options. Currently it’s either ATT DSL @ 25mb down/1.5mb up, or Casscomm Cable/Fiber which are about $20 more a month and FAR less reliable. So I’m stuck with either having a stable slower internet, or faster but deal with a ton of Konami code stability (up/down/up/down/left/right/left/right/b/a/select/start)…..
Get me stable fast internet in my area, then I’ll remote and cloud play all day
@robe Samsung is the epitome of me of "smart" features that benefit Samsung 100% and the user who paid $2000 for the television exactly 0%. It quite literally has zero benefit. Unless you like watching the terrible, old, unpopular shows they were willing to pony up for.
But if you had the money to buy the tv - then you would never be watching that junk.
I get angry thinking about it but it's my basement tv. Not replacing it now. Grrrr!
Honestly cloud gaming missing pvp games man, if call of duty and battlefield etc came to cloud gaming sheesh wouldnt have to spend thousands on a good gaming setup just jump on the cloud that's it
Have you tried gaming on a phone…………
@WestIndianCarter23 it’s definitely an industry in decline isn’t it. It certainly feels that the way Xbox is performing anyway.
I literally only use it to get reward points when there are quests for games that I can play on cloud and don't have to download them. That's it. I'm sure I'm not alone. I really have no interest in cloud, other than for that.
The quality just isn't there. It's a fantastic idea, but the lag on input and the stuttering and so on. Cloud streaming is basically unplayable for me, and I have good internet with my router prioritizing my Xbox connection. I really want it to work, and I can't wait for it to be figured out.
Quick Resume, and playing games I own. That's it.
Without qr/suspend cloud is just slow to get into and games without save everywhere and frequent checkpoints aren't playable, you just lose progress all the time. Add qr and I'll play cloud all the time!
I don't have a fast WiFi so never, but in my eyes it's a good option though I prefer playing with console/pc
Give me a dedicated handheld and/or all the turn based rpg’s I can get on game pass or a way to play my library on xcloud and it’s a go!
Action games, fighters, fps and platformers are not suitable for xcloud. Action adventures and especially puzzle games and turn based or strategy rpg’s are very well suited for cloud gaming. So we need more or easier access to those types of games. I’d play it on the train, in the park or on the toilet at work.
I'd use it more often if the EA sports games were available. When they had Madden on streaming, I'd play a quarter on my phone for a break when working. Worked well enough for me with 72mb FTTC using whatever WiFi standard MS says you need. It doesn't really work is your connect via a router that doesn't meet the spec. But yeah, worked fine on my phone and is okay way more on my phone is the games I like we're available. Having said that, I like previewing massive games before downloading to the xbox
As a few people have said, that it's tied to XBOX Game Pass Ultimate inclusion for support is a problem. The release of Fortnite on it was a good first step, but then Microsoft stumbled anyway.
Now, if PSO2, and hopefully Overwatch 2, were on xCloud, and Ultimate subscribers can add say, 5 random games from their library to xCloud, that would interest a lot more people.
I use it on my PC which isn’t powerful enough to run Ark natively. But it can use cloud services without issue. That lets me play with my kids who are playing on consoles. Overall it works well. I do wish it had a better visual quality but it’s not terrible.
@Moonglow maybe? I don't know I just find my tv extremely frustrating. The features are very buggy, the tv has no convenience and is constantly doing what you don't want it to do. I've never had a tv as frustrating as this one. It is the only tv in my almost half century on the planet I have actively hated. It makes me mad every day.
The feeling of a innovated console and a new way of gaming is magical, but when was the last time feeling like the gaming world is changing but better for the future. As confusing Stadia was and (probably is), it was at least an attempt to change the world of gaming. Game clouding is a cool idea, but it shows has no innovation style for the gaming industry. I really appreciate that independent game developers are getting more out of this way of consuming games via financially, recognition,..etc. As for now, pray to the gaming God's and Goddesses cause the world is indeed of a gaming revolution desperately. Sorry but the truth hurts (wake-up call)
I use cloud gaming all the time on my logitech g cloud which IS the perfect xbox handheld device period! Just need to make it like Stadia was ie if I buy a game for my console then I can stream it via cloud gaming. Remote play is nice but not enough. I need my whole library of purchased games to be able to stream via cloud gaming. Then I wouldn't even need a console. PERFECT
I’d like XBox to make a dedicated handheld, where you could install & play games you own, & play Gamepass via the cloud. Also, gyro controls would be welcome..😺🎮🚀
I do keep banging on about this. maybe it's possible but all I'd like to be able to do is locally stream my XSX in my house from one room to another it doesnt seem like it's a feature of say an android xbox app (on my android tv) or the samsung xbox app.
Protip: I called my ISP asking for a new modem and router and they sent me one for free (well, $20 service fee). Ever since then, ALL game stream services and in-home streaming have been working soooo good.
It's not perfect, but definitely stable, consistent, and more than suitable for everything short of super-sweaty-zero-ping-tryharding. Highly recommended. Makes Xcloud amazing since you don't have to actually install anything, just boot up games instantly.
I’ve never been confident about my internet connection for stuff like this and on the odd occasion I do dip into cloud gaming it seems to back up my fears. I guess in 5-10 years time we won’t be worried about slow connections, so maybe then it’ll be worthwhile for the likes of me, until then I’m old school and not that interested.
I think maybe they should have an option to stream games without having ultimate. Like for people who don't have an xbox, but want to stream game pass games on their phone or other streaming device. A cheap subscription for cloud streaming only.
NOTHING!
Could gaming is detrimental to the hobby/entertainment!
Cloud anything is!
For me it’s a means to resume playing games if I don’t have immediate access to a console, or to try a game off game pass before downloading it. In those cases, I always ended up streaming from the console itself.
Don’t think anything would make me stream more games other than losing access to my console for long periods of time. Like mid-move, during some long trip, etc.
I guess i would stream more if my purchased library was also available, not just GP titles.
My Internet is about as fast as you can get and I still get pixilated graphics.
I only use cloud for the occasional Microsoft points reward or to quickly out a game when the download size is large.
Use it to hit rewards with games I know I won't play further. Also use it on my laptop when traveling. The latter is hit and miss due to wifi strength wherever happen to be. I have received quite a few annoying 2-5 minute delay messages in last few weeks whereas never received them in previous year.
I would use it more often, if they enable much lower latency, basically not noticeable latency and 4K resolution. It's taking forever ... I also would like to be able to stream all the games on own through XCloud!!
I don’t have any reason to play cloud gaming with noticeable latency and fuzzier images when I’m someone who already likes tech and has a machine capable of much better picture quality with barely any latency at all.
I get the idea of using it for on-the-go gaming but I barely do that and when I do, my Switch is more than enough for that.
Nah, cloud gaming suks as is and will never work en-masse. As others have mentioned just too many unreliable variables.
Plus, what's the point? Mobile gaming on a phone is pretty much dead unless you're not even a gamer and just dabble in crap like Candy Crush. Don't know anyone who uses a phone for gaming anymore, virtually everyone has some handheld or other.
Other argument is 'yeah but you can play anywhere'.. Nah, not really. Whereas with a console and TV... umm hey wow! ... I can move anywhere on the planet and play whatever I like.
I don't like the cloud gaming experience on a small device like my phone. Similar to the Switch, I like the concept of portable gaming, but I usually opt for a larger screen. I would do more cloud gaming if (1) my own digital titles were available to stream and play, and (2) if Game Pass added more titles that played better on a smaller screen.
I used only once or twice a literally the only way to use it more often would be for them to totally remove the extra lag
Latency is everything. I could deal with HD resolutions since the ideal devices for cloud gaming would be handheld, but currently any game with any level of action just is not fun on cloud streaming.
That said, I have the Asus ROG Ally and quite enjoy downloading games on it and playing it normally.
I love cloud gaming for when I'm out of town, but that's the only time I use it.
What would have me use it? The removal of internet data caps.
No force on earth will get me on this bandwagon.
Ownership is not something I’ll trade for convenience, and the fact it’s the worst way to play games means you literally get nothing.
I try the GP streaming occasionally to see if it's got better but there isn't a use model for me.
I have 400Mbps fibre and do most of my gaming on a decent PC but also have consoles. I tend to focus on 1 or 2 games at a time. Games download so fast that streaming games at a downgraded quality just doesn't make sense.
Im simply not interested in streaming my games. I occasionally stream a title on PS to see if I can be bothered to download it, but I'm simply not into gimping my game to stream it if I want to really play it.
Maybe in a far future where the infrastructure everwhere supports zero extra latency and uncompressed 4k 60hz, but right now its the answer to a problem most people dont have.
Nothing, completely uninterested in streaming or paying full price to rent a game.
@boatie
Thats weird, for all the crazy BS I have heard Ponies spew out over the years...I have never heard them even try and say that streaming, a perk to Game Pass Ultimate, is the same as paying full price to rent a game.
Seeing as that is the only way you can stream games through Xbox is by subscribing to Game Pass Ultimate, I have to assume that is what you meant when you said you weren't interested in paying full price to rent or stream a game.
But yeah, you should really look at streaming as a perk or feat, Ultimate was still the same price with the main aspect being that you get Game Pass for Console and PC.
They 100% need to create a Game Pass Streaming tier for like $5.... I feel like that is a HUGE reason why more people aren't using their phones to stream more games.
Putting Xcloud behind a $15 a month price wall is obviously going to push away your normy consumers instead of getting them excited to be able to play full fledged console AAA games on their cell phones (Even if that is somewhat stretching the truth, I personally am not into playing anything besides turn based games pretty much when streaming on my phone... Streaming on a console is way different. Its improved enough to where I could play MLB the show without noticing anything and forgetting I was streaming after a bit)
I have a razor Kishi and loved using it to play my home Xbox when travelling but at some point something changed and now it only works streaming from my Xbox to my phone on my home wifi.
Not sure what changed. An Xbox update or a router update or the xcloud back end maybe. I spent a day trying to trouble shoot it once and got all the green ticks on my Xbox with Nat forwarding ect (even though it worked fine previously them not being green) and then gave up.
I occasionally stream games direct from the cloud but not every game supports that and enjoyed streaming from my Xbox. Since it broke I’ve just fallen off using it.
Of course its likely to be Game Pass Ultimate least used feature as the 'majority' buy Game Pass Ultimate to combine 'Gold' (I know its changing soon) and Game Pass in one monthly payment and also get EA Access too.
Most gamers also would prefer to play 'locally' where possible to have the lowest lag/latency and not have decompression artefacts ruining the visuals. Its great to try something before deciding whether its worth taking the long time to download/install etc. Its also great to play games you 'can't' (or couldn't) in a specific situation - like playing 'Starfield' on a Mobile Phone - a device its not releasing on and enabling you to play when you can't play on Hardware.
Its NOT the Primary way to play games - its at best an 'entry' point for those on a 'tight' budget - not able to buy 'hardware' for gaming specifically but can afford the low monthly cost of GPU. Otherwise, its a supplemental to the 'Hardware' for those situations when 'Hardware' isn't an option or to 'try' something before deciding to spend time you could be playing on downloading/installing - especially if you aren't convinced you'll enjoy playing.
For me personally, I tend to use 'Cloud' on my Series X to 'try' games I wouldn't normally consider playing, on my One X (Bedroom) to play 'Series' games without needing to upgrade to at least a Series S and on my Laptop/Rog Ally - similar to how I use Cloud on Console. I use Game Pass for PC more than Cloud but use EA access more than PC. If Cloud cost 'extra' or was separate, I wouldn't bother adding it - so its my least appealing 'perk' of GPU to me
We have the Logitech G Cloud. It's good enough via remote for my wife to play Sims 4 on it, but I tried playing PGA TOUR 2K on it and the lag was horrible. I can't imagine doing any serious gaming on it, and if it lags like this in remote mode I can't imagine cloud on the go is much better.
That's why god invented the Switch, lol
Nothing will "convince" me to use it, as the biggest issue for me is simply infrastructure. Until we get better internet services with better internet service in area, I will have zero interest in streaming video games. I can barely stream video reliably in my area at times, let alone video games.
I don’t mind it as an adjunct to ‘proper’ gaming and use it to try games out sometimes without downloading. But it just doesn’t run well to be a serious alternative to running games natively.
At home I have all sorts of systems including a Series X. When I’m on the go or can’t access a TV I have a Switch.
Since I picked up the Logitech G Cloud, I have played cloud games a lot as well older system EMU’s for offline gaming.
I have found that xCloud runs really well at home and even with a strong 4G signal I have had some great gaming sessions on the go with xCloud attached to my phones hotspot.
I totally understand why it might not be popular for many and not a 1st choice, but when you think that you can potentially have some great gaming experiences for little outlay - if you play via your phone or tablet for example - then for those on smaller budgets it is a great way to game.
However, the fact it is so unpopular is worrying for Microsoft and Xbox when you consider that Cloud is the main aim for them in the long term. They are already way behind in the console arena, so if they are already losing money in the cloud arena, they could be in a bad position with gamers if they don’t sort it out and make it more accessible for more people. In the UK, one huge issue is that broadband and 4G and 5G performance is based on luck and where you live which is not acceptable but that’s an issue for BT who own most of the networks infrastructure via Open Reach.
But for me, I am very happy to play via the cloud when necessary.
I would also caution that xBox saying it is the least popular feature is also part of the Acti/Blizzard saga so underselling suits them a huge deal. I wouldn’t put too much stall by the claim though. A lot of politics at play.
@BaldBelper78 This is my review of the G Cloud - I do not write for money via my website or use adverts so am not trying to spam the site! Understand if not allowed but thought a more causal writers view may be of interest to some.
https://mattjarviswriting.wixsite.com/mattjarviswriting/post/hardware-review-logitech-g-cloud-emulation-and-cloud-heaven
All my games all the time i would use it more than i do now the different results you can get daily need addressed for me atm its hit and miss but yes i use the service.
In my case it's because it's in the most expensive tier of Game Pass, which I rarely use. If it were available in Game Pass for Console tier, I'd certainly have used it a lot more.
I would use it if they would allow it in romania
I use cloud gaming pretty regularly and I've been enjoying it far more now a days than when it first came out. Performance has been improving quickly and playing online multiplayer games on the cloud like Sea of Thieves is nearly indistinguishable to playing a downloaded copy.
@Cashews couldn't agree more, my Samsung TV isn't the main TV for the house and was retailing at £500, but it also the only TV I've ever owned that I actively loathe using. It's slow, it tracks everything you do to make 'recommendations' and the user experience is idiotic.
I could go into detail but this isn't really the forum for it.
@Ralizah 100% same issue. I have 500mbps down 25 mbps up and it’s still laggy as all get out.
I find it runs very well on a run of the mill Chromebook and an XB one controller.
I will be playing starfield exclusively on cloud as I’m still running an XB one S with no plans to upgrade my hardware anytime soon. I’m in the stage of life where kids and household expenses take priority over expensive gaming hardware.
Cloud is the only way I will have access to current gen games for a while.
I will use it to try a game before I download and install it. The quality is still not there and cant enjoy the game as much as the installed version.
Quite frankly, nothing.
Streaming music or movies/TV is one thing, streaming games will never be for me.
I will never support streaming games either, because doing so will just help companies push for an all streaming future of games. Companies are already taking away our ability to own the products we pay for, streaming and potentially streaming only being tied to a service is the ultimate goal for them. No thank you.
I use it at least on a weekly basis for my Fortnite games. If there is a game on Gamepass I want to play I will hunt down a cheap month code from an online retailer and just hook my iPad Pro up to the TV saving me the cost of a console.
What I’d really like is the ability to stream my Xbox purchases assuming a paid sub was required for access.
It’s weird how they say it’s not being used because there is always a 10 minute queue to get online.
@Aeula Still mind blowing that Microsoft has their MMO locked behind Xbox Live when it doesn't require it for PC and other MMOs generally don't require it.
I have actually played more games in the cloud than on my Xbox. I don’t want to deal with uninstalling games to be able to try a new game and with a family that wants time with the Xbox or just the tv it’s so much simpler to just find a quiet place with my laptop and start a stream.
There’s one thing missing for me though - I cannot play local multiplayer in the cloud which is a big letdown.
As for playing on my mobile, it just isn’t convenient enough with the touch controls and the fact that my hands are always blocking parts of my screen. Sure, I can always connect a controller, but I seldom have that with me when I want to play. And if I do, I usually have my laptop as well so that becomes my preferred choice of screen.
I love it and use it a lot as I don’t have a Xbox or PC that can run AAA games
@Markatron84 for Stadia I was playing Destiny 2 online with friends and also did Single Player games: Read Dead Redemption 2 and Cyber Punk, both of which played very nicely on either my laptop or TV via the Chromecast Ultra or LG App (tried both). I think I never got that level of smoothness streaming with xCloud for online games, for single player it would still stutter and my connection speeds were 250 Mbps. I've even had Stadia running well on a 40 Mbps connection which said a lot for that service. But it ultimately failed & I prefer dedicated hardware so I don't always need to rely on fast internet speeds for solo games.
I use it to try games out before downloading if I decide I like them.
Honestly there's not much more that they could do to make me use it more as things stand now.
It needs a reliable internet connection, and always will, so playing worry free while travelling on a bus/train/plane like you would a handheld isn't going to be possible as the network infrastructure is out of MS' hands. So really it's only great when you've got stable Wi-Fi in one place while travelling, and that's just not a situations I'm often in.
When I stayed at a friend's place there were four of us playing Sea of Thieves together. Two on Laptops, one on Xbox, and me on my iPad through Cloud, and that worked great! But when I tried Cloud gaming on Hotel Wi-Fi it wasn't fast enough.
One thing that could get me to use it a little more is if non game pass games were available too. Fortnite is thankfully, but there's other games I play that aren't on GP, but I can't access via cloud. I'd love other Free to Play games like Star trek Online added to the cloud.
Runs like a dream for me. Use it with my Razer Kishi and Samsung S21 phone. Used it for playing Hi Fi Rush, recently beat Planet of Lana and currently working my way through Halo 2 all on Xcloud.
I use xCloud all the time on the Series S. In fact, I prefer it now. No updates, no downloads, etc. They convinced me by having Xbox take forever to install games. Nowadays, if a game’s not streamable, I’m not playing it on Xbox.
Now, with the whole streaming to other platforms thing, I don’t have any outside my phone. No Steamdeck, Asus, etc. I have streamed Vampire Survivors and a few other games on my phone, but gaming on the phone is sort… inconvenient. I mean, if I’m not a at home, I don’t often have time to game. Am I supposed to be gaming at work, the grocery store, at the movies, when I take my wife out to eat, while I’m driving? When I sit down to actually game, 99% of the time I’m near a TV.
As a whole though, I like Cloud streaming in gaming. It’s convenient and quick and reduces some overhead on a console. I believe the Series S was designed for streaming, personally. I think the S stands for “streaming.” But what do I know? I thought the Stadia was a capable device that didn’t have tech problems so much as a PR, Marketing, and Storefront format problem.
Nothing. I play video games when I'm at home. When I'm not at home, I'm not playing video games. The only exception being if I'm on a plane for a few hours. Otherwise if I'm traveling, I'm driving. Sometimes I'll take the Switch on vacation but I hardly ever play it.
I did try to do it using my phone and touch controls once while sitting in a hospital waiting room but it was such a laggy mess that I gave up after a few minutes. That was probably my phone service though, as my plan is bottom tier. Even still, I'm not going to pay for a better tier just so I can occasionally play a game for a few minutes.
Personally the biggest issue with the cloud gaming I have is the picture quality. I have very good internet connection, however the picture quality can still look god awful. I sometimes use it just to try a game before committing my valuable space to it.
Well, I work remote so if I want to play Xbox on my breaks I can soooooooooo
I really just use the cloud gaming to try a game out. If I like it I'll download it.
Nothing. I'm already unhappy with the fact that xbox dropped physical copies in my country. The more it goes digital, the less you own it and eventually every game would become just a service.
right now these devices are overpriced
@DNortonX You cán use remote play from your own console for this. In my experience, given a decent connection, remote play from my Series S works great.
@kihaennem What devices are you talking about?
@tigersden98 Why would you need 4K on something like a phone? Resolution isn't the biggest issue with cloud gaming. I'd much rather have low lag at 1080p.
Well I dont tend to okay on my phone. It's much more noticeable on your laptop. But yes latency is number 1 I agree.
