We all know how massive of a game Baldur's Gate 3 is, so it came as no surprise when the Xbox retail version was announced a few months ago that it would be spread across three separate discs for Xbox Series X.
The only problem is... that's no longer the case. Instead, the Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition will now ship on four discs when it arrives in the near future, and that's because of the game being 500MB over the limit as things stand.
Interestingly, the PS5 and PC versions are arriving on two discs each, so it's only Xbox that requires four. Nevertheless, the price is still the same, with the Deluxe Edition retailing for a very reasonable €79.99 on the Larian Store.
If you're already locked into the first wave of shipping, you should be receiving this edition at the end of March or early April, while sales for the second wave are now open and will be shipped at some point in the second quarter of 2024.

Why, once again, is the Xbox the odd man out? It's the "most powerful console on the planet." Does that even mean anything? Lol. The story is always the same - the PS5 version is good to go, but the Xbox version needs.......(fill in the blank). And then there's the whole save file being deleted problem. At this point, I'll probably get it on the PS5 next time it goes on sale. I missed the November sale.
Haha 4 discs at least it will keep the people who physically need to own there games happy
Will this generation of gaming ever begin? If you’ve held onto your XB1 this long there’s literally still no reason to upgrade after 4 years.
After 4 years any Nintendo console would have a dozen must play exclusives.
Interesting. I guess Microsoft is still using 50GB Blu-ray instead of 100GB Blu-ray? That's about the only explanation I can think why this will be double the required discs.
Odd choice seeing as how the Series X has a UHD drive.
@GamingFan4Lyf Was just thinking this, either that or the file sizes differ wildly between platforms. Even so, 500MB is cutting it fine
@rjc-32 Ah, maybe the file size difference could be the culprit. Sucks for a "meager" 500MB.
Then again, that would be a pretty hefty difference in game size to warrant 2 more discs when the PS5 version will probably have just an Install Disc and a Play Disc where the Xbox version will probably have 3 Install Discs and 1 Play Disc. Perhaps it's a combination of both Storage size differences and game data differences.
Xbox didn't want to pay the extra Sony licensing fees for use of the larger disc storage format, and instead went with Sonys cheaper, smaller, earlier Blu-ray format.
4 disks that’s so many 😱
I believe that Sony owning the rights to Blu-ray discs is also behind Xbox push into all digital. The next Xbox series X will be all digital so likely only the original Xbox series X is likely be the only Series Xbox to support physical discs.
Something to do with the series s or maybe the ps5s better compression techniques
@eire-shabba Exactly!!! Because when we spend money on something that says "purchase", we don't want to be randomly denied access to it by the people who "sold" it to us. Such a weird and horrible concept I know.
@VoidPunk Why is there no reason to upgrade? I can think of plenty of reasons that are not games.
@KillerBoy I know right, because I have such a hard time counting to four and keeping up with things. Ha ha.
@GeminiReign Also on the original Macintosh if you didn't have the second floppy drive.
@GeminiReign @ZYDIO Calm down I own my digital games but don't expect lifetime access I've accepted that different strokes for different folks guys enjoy your night my friends
Can you imagine how many discs GTA 6 is going to ship on?!? 😂
The most powerful
Really getting that 4 disc Lost Odyssey treatment, huh?
@InterceptorAlpha 4 discs of the best JRPG of that generation!
@GeminiReign Monkey Island 2 on 11 (eleven!!) Discs springs to mind.
@GeminiReign With you there on that.
Looking at you Monkey Island 2 with your 11 disks
Double the disks means you're getting double the physicalness!
How many floppy disks for this install?

Just saying
I was on the impression that Xbox series X used the same blu-ray discs as the PS5… this proves me wrong.
I guess Xbox should use the Square Enix advertisement tactic with FFVII rebirth and the whole “arrives on two discs!” approach.
@Ricky-Spanish You should expect lifetime access.
@AlienigenX They do use the same Blu-ray technology as PlayStation 5. It's just that Xbox games compile differently so they are a different size. They may also have larger assets because the quality may be slightly better on the Xbox as well.
@ZYDIO No I shouldn't nothing is lifetime access everything is situational my friend
@Ricky-Spanish If you buy something you should expect lifetime access unless it is stated specifically that there is a time limitation on your purchase. As far as physical items go, this has been the way it has been since the beginning of time. When I buy something, I expect it to be mine and have unlimited access to it until the item fails/reaches the end of it's useful life, gets lost/stolen or I choose to give/sell it to someone else. Corporations really are brainwashing people these days. People are already believing that they don't have unlimited access to their purchases.
