It's no exaggeration to say that CrossfireX ended up being a huge disappointment when it arrived on Xbox earlier this year, getting awful reviews and becoming Metacritic's worst Xbox game of 2022 - it'll probably stay that way, too.
However, in the interest of fairness, that Metascore of 38 doesn't represent how much the game has changed in recent months, and we've been seeing a definite upswing in player feedback... albeit a fairly gradual one.
If you look at the reviews on the Xbox Store now, the most recent examples are hit-and-miss - some people still really don't like the game, but others are giving it five stars and really praising the gunplay. Also, even though the Reddit community isn't exactly very active, you'll find plenty of people who have good things to say about CrossfireX:
The updates are still rolling in, too. September's update arrived just a few days ago and added lots of new features including a Halloween-themed map, Haunted Villa Team Deathmatch, gameplay improvements, bug fixes and more.
Ultimately, it still looks like CrossfireX has a massive job on its hands to try and entice Xbox fans after the disastrous launch earlier this year, but at least developer Smilegate hasn't abandoned it yet. If the updates continue to be as efficient as they have been, this could end up being a very impressive comeback story. Let's hope so.

Just goes to show how developers should wait until their games are actually ready before they release them. Had Smilegate waited a year, they might have had a decent game on their hands.
Even if the game gets into a better state after launch, the state it was when it released will still have tainted it's image. And while not impossible, that reputation will be very hard to undo.
It's a real shame that Remedy doesn't seem to be showing any signs of going back to the Campaign and improving it. A Remedy FPS campaign with a big budget could be incredible, but they didn't put their best foot forward here. Perhaps Smilegate simply didn't give them the funds necessary to make the campaign better...
Thing is, no matter how much any game improves after launch, the original reviews are what the likes of Metacritic are based on. The reviewers don't go back and review the game again, and then adjust the scores. So, if it reviewed badly at launch, then that's the way it will stay.
Personally, I like the way Steam handles reviews with the reviews from the past 12 months being separate from the overall review score. It means that where a game has been worked on, the most recent reviews can give a very different perspective of the game...
The complete lack of ADS in the clip above angers me
This was so frickin terrible I don't have any hope at all they could've changed it for the better. But glad others are getting enjoyment out of it, also surprised the game hasn't been delisted looking at other releases that have had their plug pulled.
@Wyatt006 crossfire x is a f2p fps from China so it's been "done" for quite some time... There is just a different standard of quality between the 2 markets caused by the legality of gaming, especially on console in China.
I bought it for the campaign by Remedy but I didn't play much because it ran so poorly although I can hardly blame remedy considering they were probably paid $15 and given a week to work with the multiplayer codebase and build a campaign with it.
I'll download the whole thing again to see what's changed but I don't have high expectations lol.
I really don't know why this game was even mentioned and not just silently released unless it was part of some contractual thing between Microsoft and some company involved in China because quite honestly this game is embarrassing
Well when you hit rock bottom, I guess it's only up from there.
Why is the player in the video hipfiring?? They'd probably do better using the ADS.
@Tasuki its a CS:GO clone this is a mode where no ADS, but its a point shooter, so not needit...
Terrible game btw...
I actually downloaded it to see what all the fuss is about and ended up waiting for close to 5 mins to find a multiplayer match so I quit and uninstalled it. Is the campaign really that bad? I know I can check it out myself but at this point in my life time is more precious than money spent on games.
I returned after the last update and have a blast really enjoy the modern modes and the campaign was fun.. Remind me the old Duty games.
Some games need second chance so try it if you didn't
When I played it, It was simple to just spawn kill everyone. This video doesn't represent any change in that
I'll play Infinite if I wanna play a less than mediocre game with minimal updates (not fair, this seems to have had more polish than Infinite ever did lmao)
@Tasuki
modern- has ads and sprint its a cod style
Classic - is a CSGO style which has no ads and sprint
@Trmn8r hes playing classic mode which is CSGO style with no ADS and SPRINT
