This game is GPU heavy but the CPU can be addressed with better multi-threading. If they can refactor it to use more threads in parallel the CPU on the Xbone could run it. I expect it will have tons of pop-in and long loading times though, I wouldn't expect more than 720p either.
Edit: Such a refactor would benefit VR users too with better FPS, so it aligns with their PC goals too.
Power supplies usually go out with a sudden bang from my experiences, and capacitors can burn slow but I've never seen one give off that much smoke. I'm not gonna say this is fake, but I suspect it is.
If I rebuy I'll rebuy on Steam. I have it on my Xbone which I repaired to finish this game. Kinda tempted to restart and get SSD speeds and ray tracing on Steam, or run it on my potato laptop, like if the Switch version didn't depend on the cloud. No matter what I ain't buying the console version a second time.
@Meehanuk I don't know if they'll let you download the Xbone version if a Series S version is available, I would not be surprised to see if you can only get the bigger Series S install.
@carlos82 My guess is they throw the same texture quality as the Series X on the Series S. PC ultra textures are bigger, and removing duplication only saves so much.
@Carck Profiting off someone else's work isn't exactly nice. The developer has since removed the copied assets, and what's left is their work or licensed, but what they did was bad. The game is still impressive and I believe in second chances but that is a bad thing.
Adding split-screen to PC seems more important, and that's less important than Halo Infinite. Any graphical enhancements would make most sense in a Halo 3 Anniversary, but such would be a massive undertaking they said they would not do.
Stick drift on the Elite is a pain because it is soldered, even the Joycons are socketed with a ribbon cable. If your Elite dies you're SOL. I solder, and analog sticks are easy to solder, but if you don't have soldering equipment or can't breathe in the fumes (a friend has asthma) an iFixit kit will not be enough.
Way faster startup time! Great job Xbox! Even my snail spinny disk console starts fast now. Painful update speed and load times, but it's a spinning disk after all.
It doesn't change the world but the new store is faster and everyone says this is faster too, and if it lives up to that when I install it tonight good on MS. PS5 UI is still an unknown but it's hard to believe a new UI will be this good at launch. Even if it would be nice to have no ads like Nintendo and Steam.
Even without free multiplayer this is an excellent move. I recall using an old 360 and was annoyed to remember cloud saves were not always free, in contrast to the Xbone.
Definitely a way to deliver Xbox All Access to consumers after killing their brick and mortar operations. Upside for GameStop is they probably got a deal on their IT operations in exchange for it, downside is they now push digital games.
I would personally prefer yet another delay, but at least it's only 6 days a week as opposed to 7. Of course I have no idea how many hours per day it is. Hopefully the dev team is able to maintain something semblant of a work-life balance. I have crunched in college and it is not good for your ability to concentrate, which makes you make mistakes and take forever to debug what would be an easy fix if you hadn't stayed up the last 59 hours. The thought of months of crunch is bad.
I enjoyed it but it was very short. Like shorter than MGS Ground Zeroes short. Of course you get Infinite free if you buy Bright Memory which is a hell of a deal. Edit: Does that apply to Xbox too? I know it does on Steam.
I didn't care for the visual downgrade I saw in the Halo Infinite 2020 trailer, but the game still looked really fun. I'm happy they're delaying it, but I was surprised it got so much crap when everything else but the graphics looked so good. Same thing here. I grew up on the SNES/PS1/Game Boy, graphics while nice are secondary.
They're really betting on those memory cards aren't they? I wonder how much smaller games can be if they stop duplicating assets for HDD seek time. Series S can always be expanded later, both with memory cards and what MS ships inside the console years from now. I also suspect an iFixit kit can put in compatible SSDs as well. $300 is an impressive price point if you don't care about discs.
I'll probably stay on PC for now given the 6 months I've been furloughed without unemployment benefits (thanks US govt), but one day I might get this. Already had to replace my PC and VR HMD as both died from board failure, so I'm even less in the mood to get new hardware. The lack of a disc drive is big to me though, I can live on 1080p, but losing my disc backlog is bad. I don't even buy discs anymore, but I used to and don't want to lose it all. I replaced my Xbox One power brick and it works again so I have that to play discs.
They don't have to make it XSX exclusive to make the next-gen graphics actually good. They just need to have bad lighting for the Xbone and raytracing/better screen-space lighting for XSX.
Dropping the Xbox One version probably won't do a lot of good. Everyone wants an easy answer, the last-gen lighting is all but done. What they need is ray-traced lighting to look good on next-gen and some engine improvements to fix pop-in. That will benefit Xbox One and Series X. Same way performance improvements from Doom Switch port made their way to Doom Eternal on Xbox One and PS4.
@NEStalgia Yeah, the current consoles aren't holding too much back except for the weak CPU and slow hard drive, so it's not PS3/Xbox 360 bad, where the cross-gen games were clearly dumbed down. Since this game doesn't feature high-speed traversal or crazy physics, I don't think it's being held back. I think it's just a knee-jerk reaction to Halo Infinite's bad graphics. Gamers see one cross-gen game that didn't improve its graphics much on next-gen hardware and think all games have to be next-gen only to make use of fancy ray-traced global illumination and whatnot. Economically it seems unsound to go next-gen exclusive. Maybe the PC requirements will be modest, but that still won't get all the people who can't afford a next-gen console.
Edit: As seen on Push Square:
Update: We've finally got a press release from Warner Bros, confirming that Gotham Knights will release on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2021. It's described as a "third-person action RPG" in the documentation. As teased during the DC FanDome event, you'll work from the Belfry as your hub of operations, solving "mysteries that connect the darkest chapters in the city's history and defeating notorious villains in epic confrontations".
Well this game is cross-gen. Suicide Squad being a 2022 release might be better off, but I still expect the economy to be rough then. Maybe the Series S will get a PlayStation response the way the PS4 Pro got the Xbox One X a year later.
I saw people hating on it but it actually looked pretty good. People tore apart the Avengers game at the start, but they nailed the aesthetic down really well. Once the gameplay was shown off though, I lost faith in it. This game has gameplay shown day 1 and it looks amazing. I'm sure it will have microtransaction b$ but it doesn't look like the boring MMO game as a service gamer rage commenters made it out to be. It looks like a 1-2 player coop, and a good one at that. Time, not pre-orders, will tell, but the fact that WB gave their devs so much time to make these games makes me think they will be good.
@KelticDevil Microsoft has a history of bugs in their package patching. I don't know how similar Xbox is to Windows Store patching so I may be rambling nonsense. And for Microsoft's weaknesses, they have a lot of strengths. Sony does not have a hypervisor that back compat emulation is built on top of. Microsoft does because Xbox built on top of what was made for Windows. I know from experience patching software is complicated, Sony doesn't need to pay people to do that. Maybe they'll pay to have Nathan Drake in FIFA.
I hope they improve the lighting a lot before release. The throwback in art direction is fine, but it doesn't look old just cause of that. Gameplay looked great, and much of the negativity has been overkill. I wonder what they have cooking for split-screen multiplayer.
Halo Infinite as a game looked great, graphically it did not look great. Graphics matter but the ray tracing patch they promise will probably fix this. Better than Halo 4 multiplayer or Halo 5 story.
While I wish he could make a better argument, the XSX is more powerful if that is all that is good. Microsoft, HP, and Valve made a good VR headset together, if only Xbox could have the enthusiasm Sony has for console VR. Weird Push Square tried to claim teraflops on the same GPU architecture don't matter, that was quite a big deal back in the base PS4 days.
People put too much emphasis on graphics, but that was a big downgrade. It's not even the textures and character models, those are great, they just went back to Bungie's designs. It's the lighting. The pilot's face went from realistic 2019 trailer to looking like plastic in 2020. Same great beard, same polygons, but the lighting got hit so hard. No matter what the game looked fun and the antagonist is already better than Halo 5's, but I really hope they fix the lighting and pop-in before launch. If that's how it looks on Xbox One S I'm impressed, but not for the Xbox One X let alone Xbox Series X. Despite the crap downgraded lighting that gave me a bad feeling at first, the gameplay and dialogue were so good they turned it around and got me hyped again. Hopefully the game delivers.
I've seen 90 FPS and only in VR is it worth lowering graphics for 90 FPS over 60 FPS. And this comes from a gamer who almost always butchers graphics for that sweet 60 FPS. That said if your game looks like Minecraft it better be 120 FPS. A shame that cancerous fanboys are flaming that dev for posting facts.
While Valve has finally made a comeback, it was a shame seeing so little in the last 10 years. I wonder about Rockstar as noted above, as well as Epic Games and the Unreal Tournament series. Rare has already made a comeback with Sea of Thieves.
I have a feeling that if not today, one day Tencent will either by their own will, if not the Chinese government's will, censor videogames. I know America has its flaws, we have internment camps this very day, but at least I don't think I'm going to get arrested for saying something critical. I admit that if I want a game from a Tencent-owned studio very badly I may buy it, but I definitely will try to avoid them.
Edit: I just remembered, Activision is already doing this (Blitzchung).
