People will argue forever over whether last gen could run this, I personally am adamant Infinite would've been dead on arrival as a next gen exclusive, but feature parity is not needed. I suspect you could find an area that makes last gen chug. There also may be issues where next gen stutters less badly with 4 players. But 2 players on next gen totally should be viable. I'm not mad personally, but 343 could use good publicity instead of bad publicity, that alone would justify the dev/QA time.
I get the gaming hate train loves to see a game fail, but they should have made and announced this change earlier so the game's player count wouldn't drop so hard. This gives me hope I didn't have but it might be another Anthem 2.0, will 2042 even survive by the time this is done?
Hopefully post Kotick they can make games again. Crash 4 didn't sell well, but it seems partially due to the terrible PC DRM. I think they could do better next time, it'd be a shame for them to be reduced to nothing but CoD support.
I hate Musk as much as anyone should, but this must be where his clock got stuck, cause he's certainly right about this. I don't think Amazon, Google, or Apple would succeed in the console market today. Maybe Apple could leverage Apple Silicon in the PC space, Google failed Stadia, and Amazon Luna seems alive I guess. Amazon is more likely to succeed at being a developer and publisher like with New World.
Halo Infinite is a good game but the campaign coop and Forge are taking forever. I'm glad to see Crystal brought in to speed Perfect Dark's development up. Avengers looked like it could have been a good game if its combat wasn't so basic. Focusing on a single player FPS could boost their morale. Though I hope it has split screen too.
Gyro aiming is great, but I don't miss the other gimmicks. Gyro aiming, when done well like in CS GO, elevates the DualSense above the Xbox controller.
NFTs are scam adjacent at best, and the clone console vibes and claims of 8K only make this sketchier. When less suspicious micro consoles failed to enter mass production or turned out bad you'd have to be very ignorant to invest in this. Someone's gonna take the money and run.
I used Linux, fdisk, and mkfs to boot a 128GB micro SD card on my new 3DS. Minecraft, Smash, and Xenoblade are strangely modern and have no business on the 3DS. I should play Ironfall again to see how FPS fare on it.
Cutting scope is usually win-win. Game is more polished for us gamers, game devs get to have more sanity when the game ships. Not really bad to make a better 20-40 hour game than a buggier delayed game that's longer. 20-40 being purely hypothetical, I don't know how long it'll be. ForzaTech will probably run amazing but like many in house engines, it'll take work to adapt it to Fable. Unless we want anthropomorphized sword wielding cars like a steampunk Pixar Cars, but more live action CGI looking like Cats 2019.
@Angelus3K The Series X also has an availability problem. The Series S seemed like an interesting bet, but in hindsight it was genius. It's actually in stock, and has been for months. Can't say that about the X or PS5.
I'm usually pro cross gen game, but this is single player and the Series S is pretty easy to find in stock in 2022. I'm certain that Halo Infinite would have flopped if it was next gen exclusive, but this will be fine. I don't want to give into console wars, but Sony has a serious problem with PS5 availability. I would like to keep a disc drive and mainly game on PC so my current Xbox is my OG model with 2013 vintage tech. Pretty sure I'll have to get a Series S at this rate, just for the split screen Halo and back compat.
Not really shocked, Infinite Season 1 has been a massive letdown but the base game itself is shockingly good. Xbox should have delayed Season 1 for a few months to give 343 time to rest after Infinite's launch, but they wanted that armor money now I guess. Now the usual suspects have been trying to push their angry gamer narrative on Reddit and YouTube. It's not BF 2042, even if the development was a mess. That has less to do with 343 not being Bungie, and much more to do with tech debt and permatemps. But the latter narrative is too mundane and doesn't appeal to angry gamers.
Worse than I hoped but if that's what 343 can manage, I don't want them to crunch. The campaign was great and the multiplayer is solid, but the post release updates have been glacial. I'm not outraged like Reddit is, but you'd think they could hire more staff to spread the work out. Unless the reason coop is delayed is an engine problem and not an art/QA testing issue.
@Berry-sXe One of the people interviewed for the Switcher 3 port is from their Russian studio, so it probably was them. And given Switcher 3 and Halo CE Anniversary's quality, they were probably doing a great job too. But with this war, CDPR is wise to finish it themselves. I'm not sure if it's even legal to hire them to do the port now. Saber also owns 4A Studios from Ukraine so they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Many lives have been ruined by Putin's insanity.
Honestly, if you have RTX on a PC there's several issues. Sign text and particles have Z buff issues similar to GTA III Definitive rain. Snow golem head reflections float over the golem's derpy snow texture. Horses without armor are black. You need to bring your own resource pack to enable RTX in survival. DLSS is woefully out of date and has tons of ghosting, FSR isn't supported and the built-in upscaling for AMD Radeon and Intel ARC GPU is mediocre at best. That in particular hurts RTX on console. I still use Minecraft RTX with Kelly's RTX pack, but it's far from what people hype it up to be. It feels like it's been in beta for a year no progress. And given how GPU are unobtainium I'm glad Mojang put it on the back burner. But now that the cave update part II is out, it'd be nice if Mojang actually fixed Render Dragon's RT issues.
In this subscription hellscape at least most companies had the decency to use most of their catalog for their monthly fee. Nope, 2K is content to charge you for GTA Online alone, not even RDR2, Max Payne 3, Bully, or other Rockstar fare. Insanity.
Sony has invested a lot in fighting games, they bought Evo. It sucks as an Xbox user, but I also use PC, and after all of Xbox's purchases Sony has to buy something. Maybe it will be a timed exclusive or certain characters will be only on PlayStation, but yeah, this is probably coming to PS4 before any Xbox.
To be fair rumors were 2042 was a mess, but things can change in a year. This is promising. Hopefully EA lets Bioware use Unreal or make Frostbite good for games that aren't first person for future games.
@themightyant Yeah, EA surprised me delaying it. GTA doesn't have the connection between the titles Mass Effect has, and 2K only delayed next gen GTA V. Still skeptical of GTA V's next gen patch but the GTA Online update was good. I don't play GTA Online anymore so I won't play it. I think the remaster was released this holiday to please shareholders with quick cash.
I wouldn't describe Grove Street as competent, but I don't think anyone could remaster all 3 titles and satisfy 2K's immovable release date. Game dev is hard, and that makes the business people's jobs hard as well, but a more realistic goal for both parties would have been remastering GTA3 first. Honestly I'd blame the business people, they should have split the trilogy into separate releases like they did Mafia and have another studio support Grove Street so they can get more experience. I bet they thought sales of a trilogy collection would be high so they ignored the logistics and hoped gamers would blame the developers.
I was hoping this would be good but something felt off about how much R* hid it. It's pretty clear 2K pushed this too soon for a cash grab. I feel bad for Grove Street Games because I'm sure they care deeply about their work but the business morons in the publisher 2K never get hated on, gamers only like to hate on the hard working developers for whatever reason. Good thing I got Mafia remake when it was on sale, I didn't install it yet but it will do just fine now.
@blinx01 Minecraft RTX could run on the Xbox Series X, but it is full of glitches. Horses that don't wear armor are black, text behind tinted glass is not tinted, snow golem heads are misaligned from their bodies in reflections, etc. I think the problem is Mojang is a small studio and their hands are full with the cave update. They should get support from an external studio to fix the RTX bugs and then add AMD FSR support to improve performance. An Xbox Series X patch is long overdue and even the FPS on my base Xbox One is much worse on 1.17 than it used to be.
Probably The Trilogy, but it's a bit late to record new work for it unless they add more in patches. Maybe GTA V next gen won't be as low effort as I think, or maybe it's for GTA 6.
I like Sea of Thieves but I don't think Rare can or should develop 2 MMOs. MMOs take a lot of effort to cultivate both the game and its community, and I don't think any developer can afford to divide itself between 2 at the same time. I was concerned when Rare said the game didn't have any gameplay yet, it's clear they announced it too early. It doesn't mean the game is Half Life 2 Episode 3 but it will be years before it is ready.
I wish they would get over the cable and support the HP Reverb G2 on the Xbox Series X. If they aspire to standalone they may as well support the existing MS ecosystem right now cause MS will depend on it later. Valve and Facebook didn't wait for standalone to get started, Xbox shouldn't either.
I actually liked it, but the controls were a bit complicated at times and the game was buggy AF at launch. Now, however, it is fine. Could use some more checkpoints, it better be a free patch though.
Blizzard's sexual harassment controversy already killed my interest in this remake, and the pivot to always online further killed my interest in the remake. However, even those 2 bad omens didn't prepare me for a launch this bad. I'm betting there's low morale and lots of turnover. Money saved for me, sad to see Diablo in such a bad state. I hope Blizzard fixes this remake at least but their track record is not great in that regard.
Maybe the internal fan died, dust buildup, or roach nest are the common culprits of Xbone overheating cause MS actually did a good job on cooling post 360 RRoD. As for the OG 360 I have had to replace thermal paste to prevent overheating, and replacing the paste on my Xbox One made the fans quieter. If the thermal paste is new it won't have to rotate as fast.
I'm using Windows 11 on my desktop right now but the hardware requirements are BS. My laptop's Ryzen 2500U allegedly can't run it, nor can many PC. If your OS can't run on modern hardware, it isn't good enough.
Between the Blizzard abuse, decline in quality, and removal of LAN support, I am happy to skip this one. It is made by ex Vicarious staff so I suppose it might actually be good, but even then I'll probably skip.
@Deadcow Unity's current CEO is EA's old CEO, so they're well known to be incumbent. I like how beginner friendly the Unity engine is, Unreal does offer visual programming but at the end of the day C# isn't nearly as intimidating as C++. But Unity has a knack for being slow to fix bugs in the engine. And I have a feeling it's due to not hiring enough developers. And it's pretty clear this is an attempt to fleece Sony, Nintendo, and MS of their money.
@Liam_Doolan I got a DualSense for my PC, now the Insider program knows I'm a traitor. Only way I could take it further is putting a Kevin Butler poster on the wall. I don't even have a PS console since the PS2, but my friend works for PlayStation so I had to get a DualSense.

Only streaming via LAN like the Vive does would make sense. And Wi-Fi is the bane of my existence, so I do not exactly find the tech to be reliable. Edit: But maybe it would work. I never tried the Vive wireless.
@CrazyJF That is obviously a problem, but the cat is already out of the bag. The PS4 was hacked long ago, and it would not be hard to dump the files. I imagine that the people negotiating are the type of people that don't have any idea how a computer works. PC's default state is open but the Switch and PS4 are easy to jailbreak. The Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PS5 are to my awareness not yet hacked. That does not mean they are unhackable, being truly unhackable is pretty much impossible, but thus far they have proven too difficult. Hard to judge the Xbox Series and PS5 since they are likely too new and few for people to obtain.
Not surprised. I know some people in tech with some serious psychological issues, a mean streak, and lots of money. With how easy it is to hack IoT devices, you could make a botnet in your spare time or pay someone to use theirs. As long as companies that make easy to hack IoT devices are not fined, they will continue to sell people smart crap that enables these DDoS botnets.
