Re: Crysis Remastered Has Been Delayed 'By A Few Weeks'

Vincent294

It didn't look as better as I expected, but it wasn't bad. It definitely ain't a remake, it's what it says on the tin, a remaster. I'm guessing the delay to meet expectations is PR to cover for needed delays. There's no way they could overhaul the assets enough to make it look current-gen, but there is enough time to iron out any performance issues with the new lighting.

Re: Microsoft Is Shutting Mixer, Teaming Up With Facebook Gaming

@JON22 https://watchbeam.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/208104776-Creating-an-Account

Mixer uses an Xbox/Microsoft account so I don't think there's anything to delete. Though the fact that they are teaming up with Facebook is sketchy. I assume the migration is for streamers on PC, and the URLs for their Mixer pages pointing to Facebook (and not Twitch interestingly). Streaming from Xbox is just poofing into thin air so I don't think we'll see Facebook software on Xbox (thank goodness).

Re: Microsoft Is Shutting Mixer, Teaming Up With Facebook Gaming

Not like Amazon is a virtuous company (they're awful), but Facebook is the obvious greater evil. Maybe the Xbox-Oculus relationship had something to do with it. I never used Mixer anyways so I guess this doesn't hurt me, but even as a reluctant Facebook user, I avoid that company. There's a reason I went Windows VR and not Oculus.

Re: Sea Of Thieves' Concurrent Player Peak On Steam Continues To Rise

Vincent294

I love how they're releasing on Steam. I don't even hate the Windows Store, I just prefer Steam. Steam has compelling features like Family Sharing and the Steam Link app for Raspberry Pi. Xbox Play Anywhere is cool, but is only a selling point if you have an Xbox. In addition while I have not been burned, I have heard of people having to reinstall games from the Windows Store because of update failure. You don't hear about that with Steam. I hope MS improves the Windows Store because it's important to take care of their platform, but keep that Steam support coming! It's my preferred platform, and for many the only one they will settle for (except DRM free ones like GOG/itch.io).

Re: No Titanfall Games Are Currently In Development, Confirms Respawn

Vincent294

@sheady Yeah, while it was not the Titanfall team within Respawn that developed Jedi Fallen Order I assume they would get advice on using Unreal from them as they're both part of Respawn. I hope they get to avoid Frostbite, it's a very efficient engine with fantastic visuals, but a hell to work with. If EA wants their developers to use Frostbite so they don't have to pay Epic for Unreal, A: they should just pay for Unreal if their devs want it, and B: they should make Frostbite easier to work with.

Re: No Titanfall Games Are Currently In Development, Confirms Respawn

Vincent294

I actually liked Battlefield V but Titanfall was so underrated. EA should fund another entry. Titanfall uses the Source engine, since Valve still hasn't released a Source 2 SDK I suspect Respawn would switch to Unreal engine. And that reminds me of another dormant franchise, Unreal Tournament. At least Half Life got a new release.

Re: Chorus Dev: It's Easier To Develop For Xbox Series X Than Any Other Console

Vincent294

@ThanosReXXX Their SSD is more than a little faster, it's twice as fast. Regardless the GPU is more important, the XSX SSD is already crazy fast, and the XSX has over 100 GB more storage than the PS5 (I expect storage space to be an issue next gen). Microsoft can always ship faster SSDs in later Xboxes, I suspect the user will also be able to replace it with a faster one down the road. I'm pretty sure the XSX motherboard can make use of a faster SSD. And of course you can just add more storage via the expansion instead of replacing your SSD entirely, the only option on the PS5.

Re: Chorus Dev: It's Easier To Develop For Xbox Series X Than Any Other Console

Vincent294

@mousieone Their SSD is just faster, that would make dev easier not harder. The RAM on PS5 is slightly faster too. The PS5 GPU is slower, the CPU is too if I recall. GPU will probably be the bottleneck so I anticipate PS5 would be harder to dev for. Haven't developed games before so I have no idea how friendly the PS5/Xbox dev kits are to debug. Probably confidential info right now.

Re: Chorus Dev: It's Easier To Develop For Xbox Series X Than Any Other Console

Vincent294

@nofriendo Sony at minimum has back compat. That's a big advantage with their market share, but if they had superior hardware they probably would have showed it by now. Either they're making last second changes or they're nervous they can't offer what MS can at the price point. MS could especially claw back market share if they were a loss leader. Not to mention the first party acquisitions.

Re: id Software Details 'Eroded Trust' Issues With DOOM Eternal Composer

Vincent294

That's a mess. Mick pointed out cuts that changed the time signature on some songs, which I would expect anyone to know better. On the other hand if all they were given was compressed that is also a problem, though Mick probably wanted to do it himself. While he would have taken more time it would have been better to wait. They could find a talented replacement but it's an unnecessary risk. Id's loss, sad time to be a Doom fan.

Re: Talking Point: Did Your Xbox 360 Suffer The Dreaded Red Ring Of Death?

Vincent294

My cousin's old 360 Elite was overheating so I opened it up. I cut myself getting in and bled on it. I saw some dried blood that was too old to be mine, and when I took the heat sink off there was dried flux around the CPU and GPU. The X-clip said fixed 03 OCT 07, and it was clear they had reflowed it cause of red ring. I replaced the dried thermal paste and it runs cool again. My 360 Slim never had issues. My Xbox One's Wi-Fi got flaky and replacing the Wi-Fi board did nothing so that is my new hardware puzzle. My One never overheated though, even with the dry old thermal paste.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Classics Would You Remaster? (#3)

Vincent294

Skate 3. Bully is great from what little I've played and I've only played Left 4 Dead 2. Valve has had more output lately than they've had in many years, but I don't think we'll be seeing L4D anytime soon. There were leaks of a 3rd game, but development has been suspended as far as I know. I would not be surprised to see another Half Life game, though I suspect the next will be VR exclusive too. I wish MS supported Windows Mixed Reality on the Xbox. WMR is not as good as it could be, but it's good enough and cheaper than anything except PS VR. Pretty niche stuff but Half Life Alyx was a blast.

Re: Someone Has Filed A Lawsuit Over Drifting Issues On Xbox Controllers

Vincent294

I haven't but stick drift is brutally common in multiple companies' VR controllers, as well as the Nintendo Switch. My best friend in high school lost a controller to this on his Xbox One, but I have 3 controllers that never had any issue, with its sticks or anything for that matter. My Xbox One Wi-Fi started having issues but my controllers have proven reliable, anecdotally. I have heard of the Elite controller having issues, I don't know if it's a result of more defects or purchasers being more vocal due to the controller's high asking price.

Re: Former Sony Designer Suggests The Xbox Series X Is "A Beast" Compared To PS5

Vincent294

@Xbox4ever Series X is more powerful than the PS5 but the difference is only 20% better TFLOPs on the same architecture, it won't be that big a difference. The big thing about this generation is everyone says their console is better but Microsoft and Sony's tech specs haven't been this close to each other in many years. I expect slightly faster loading on PS5, and slightly higher resolution or a more stable frame rate on Series X.
