Update: It's now been confirmed that Gotham Knights is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X next year, along with PS4, PS5 and PC. Furthermore, it will be playable in two-player co-op or solo modes.
Original story: It's finally official! After years of teasing, WB Games Montreal has confirmed today as part of DC FanDome that Gotham Knights is arriving next year in 2021. No platforms have been announced as of yet.
As you can see from the trailer above, there's no starring role for Bruce Wayne this time around - Batman is seemingly dead, and so Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin are forced to step in to protect Gotham City.
Furthermore, the Court of Owls will reportedly play a big role in Gotham Knights, but it was also hinted that the mystery in the game is "way bigger than just the Court of Owls."
Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family - Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin - to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos.
Your legacy begins now. Step into the Knight.

Hopefully it skips current gen
What an awesome follow up to the Arkham series. I can't wait for this game.
@Menchi nope, coming to current gen also.
I think this look terrific!
@redd214 Source? I saw no platforms listed anywhere

"Gotham Knights will be available in 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC."
@redd214 Thanks, hadn't seen it listed anywhere. I'd say it's a shame that it'll be held back, but then I remembered I'll be skipping it anyway since this is the WB Montreal game, not Rocksteady's.
@Menchi You're welcome, hope you find something more to your liking in SS!
Nice, Can't wait to play this on Series X.
Looks really good way better that the avengers game, who knows Microsoft might get revenge and get their own exclusive character for this, along as it ain't wonder woman
It could be as fun as Arkham City, but we will see. Arkham Knight was not as fun.
From the 8 minutes of gameplay shown, I'd guess that it emphasizes co-op. For solo play, will it allow switching between heroes at any point between missions or will it choose the character for you?
Looks great! Much more promising than The Avengers, I must say.
Depends what time it releases next, if late surprised it coming to current generation.
Think this generation is going to run a lot longer than usual along side next generation.
But will it come to switch?
😏
@graysoncharles yeah, the internet is a foul place sometimes
@Friendly I would think not, seems very unlikely..
Very hyped, looking forward to this one.
Wonder if it will be considered entirely stand-alone, though. I dont think the story lines up with the ending of Arkham Knight. It would not change my decision to preorder this thing, but it still would be nice if it lined up.
Hmm... I'm not entirely sure what to make of this. It's definitely not the game I had in mind - I was rather hoping for a sequel of sorts to Arkham Origins with Batman proper - but I'm certainly not against it. The (admittedly expected) co-op aspect has me slightly concerned, and to my eyes it looks like they've dropped the Freeflow combat system, but overall I'm interested.
If they can do justice to the Talon and Court of Owls then this could be a fantastic game for Batman fans. Whether the Bat is in it or not
I'm not sure why theres so much "hope it skips current gen" talk. If the new consoles are expensive like keeps getting rumored, that install base is going to be mighty small for quite a while, and adoption will be pretty slow. And that would still be true without a covid economy. Considering the economy isn't expected to recover for a decade at least, 8th "current gen" may still be running into 10th gen. No publisher wants to send their game to die with a low install base and miss the large market.
Looks pretty good. I will definitely play it on Series X.
I saw people hating on it but it actually looked pretty good. People tore apart the Avengers game at the start, but they nailed the aesthetic down really well. Once the gameplay was shown off though, I lost faith in it. This game has gameplay shown day 1 and it looks amazing. I'm sure it will have microtransaction b$ but it doesn't look like the boring MMO game as a service gamer rage commenters made it out to be. It looks like a 1-2 player coop, and a good one at that. Time, not pre-orders, will tell, but the fact that WB gave their devs so much time to make these games makes me think they will be good.
@NEStalgia Yeah, the current consoles aren't holding too much back except for the weak CPU and slow hard drive, so it's not PS3/Xbox 360 bad, where the cross-gen games were clearly dumbed down. Since this game doesn't feature high-speed traversal or crazy physics, I don't think it's being held back. I think it's just a knee-jerk reaction to Halo Infinite's bad graphics. Gamers see one cross-gen game that didn't improve its graphics much on next-gen hardware and think all games have to be next-gen only to make use of fancy ray-traced global illumination and whatnot. Economically it seems unsound to go next-gen exclusive. Maybe the PC requirements will be modest, but that still won't get all the people who can't afford a next-gen console.
Edit: As seen on Push Square:
Well this game is cross-gen. Suicide Squad being a 2022 release might be better off, but I still expect the economy to be rough then. Maybe the Series S will get a PlayStation response the way the PS4 Pro got the Xbox One X a year later.
On this site, it’s sensible and reports facts like this game and Kill The Suicide Squad is coming to multiple platforms next year and 2022, over on your sister PlayStation site and PSU.com they are trying to paint the picture these games are exclusive PS5 games... it’s not a good look for these other sites I have to say.
Batman should be a cool game to look out for though.
@S1ayeR74
Yea Push Square is a site ran by toxic fanboys. They try to word everything so that it sounds like every game is a PS exclusive. They’ve been doing it for years. 🙄
After that reveal, I have almost zero interest in this game now. A co-op beat ‘em up? And Batman isn’t even in it? No thx.
People are quick to hate on this game because you can play the campaign in co-op. Those people must've never played Gears before, because all of those are co-op and that doesn't hurt the single player mode, at all.
Looks okay, but I'm not sold yet. If it had been Rocksteady, I'd be more interested. Shame there is no Batman.
