I wouldn't miss Games with Gold but if Game Pass was the only way to play online it would be a shame. Maybe a cheaper Switch Online style sub with Game Pass?
Considering they said brand new technique and not patch to support the current technique I wonder if it is just back compat that is aware of the new hardware.
Open world games are not easy to make and they put online money over single-player DLC. If they had a GTA V or RDR 2 DLC it would soften the blow. Instead they make online content that is pay to win. And then they put all their effort towards the next whale that takes forever to develop, GTA 6.
Probably leftover from debugging. That said they should test things to make sure that doesn't fall through the cracks. I guess either someone chose the wrong build or pushed the update out without testing it.
@The_New_Butler Heh, Sony has handled the start of this generation like MS handled Xbox 180. Firing shots at Xbox cross gen strategy in spite of rumored yield and shortage concerns, only to find they too could not keep up with demand.
I don't think Square would sell Eidos but if MS bought them they could make a sequel to Mankind Divided. Deus Ex inspired Cyberpunk 2077, and after CP 2077's messy launch, people are looking for a proper cyberpunk game.
@The_New_Butler GT7 was rumored to have always been a next gen game, but Sony dropped the PS4 requirement on Polyphony after the PS5 shortage. They have shown mostly graphics to my awareness, so I can't speak to the handling or audio. No point dunking on it being last gen though.
I bought it on Epic. I'll probably rebuy when it comes to Steam, probably not Xbox but if I hadn't got it on Epic I would have given Xbox a go. Granted I don't know how FPS would fare on base Xbone, the game is both CPU and GPU intense. It's actually a pretty good game in some regards, but it is both super buggy and stupidly difficult. Those 2 things are bad enough on their own, and especially bad together. Oddworld New n Tasty aside from its graphics is a better game, but Soulstorm has lots of potential if they patch it and add more checkpoints.
I love 1st and 3rd person. That said it feels like a missed opportunity for this to be 1st person and not support SteamVR or PS VR. I suppose the latter is at the mercy of next gen PS VR not being ready yet.
They still have a way to go, but considering the only thing in their pipeline that is promising is Far Cry 6, they will be easy to boycott. Assassin's Creed is too grindy, I don't play much multiplayer, Rayman is dormant, Beyond Good and Evil 2 seems to be on hold, and don't even get me started on how awful it is that Splinter Cell is AWOL. I feel bad for staff that had to endure all the abuse.
Glad to hear. Despite what many gamers want to believe, ditching last gen consoles will not magically fix Cyberpunk 2077. Many people are either unemployed or paid minimum wage, and even when they do have money the PS5 and Xbox Series are sold out anyways. True next gen titles will come later, when people can actually get a new console and developers optimize their engines for the new consoles.
It's probably true. While I look forward to the game and think the engine was a response to tech debt from the Blam engine used from Halo CE to Halo 5, the game should've been smaller in scope. It would already be out by now if it wasn't so big. Still, the fact that they still think it will be great is promising.
@P3nguinprisM I don't have a Series anything, still on my Xbone, but it may be a power supply issue. I watch a channel called Tronics Fix and most dead Series S and X have a dead power supply, some are the motherboard. If you've tried unplugging it, and any other troubleshooting steps I'm forgetting, warranty is probably your best bet.
Edit: I should add I had to replace the power brick for my Xbox One last year. It went 5 years before being unstable, Wi-Fi dropping, buzzing noises, and Xbox system software popup messages saying "Hardware error" before shutting down. The Series consoles power supplies are internal and not an external brick like the original Xbox One. Spare power supplies are rare on eBay, I only resort to eBay for spare parts when my warranty is expired.
They're pretty good at supporting PC but Game Pass is not mod friendly. It would be nice if they could make UWP not as hostile to PC gaming, letting us see the EXE and whatnot without 3rd party scripts. Better yet, using Win32 apps with an installer that cleans up the DRM that some game uninstallers leave behind. The packaging benefits UWP promised, without the dumb baggage. I like to buy Xbox games on Steam to avoid UWP.
I kind of want to buy the game for this. The game itself isn't very good from what I heard and 200GB is a big asking price, but the documentary looks great.
I got it on Xbone back compat with a used copy from the Russian store across the street from my apartment. I beat it, sold it at GameStop for the same price as the Steam sale, and rebought it on PC. Done a speedrun with a friend, it's great.
I love detail obsessed users like this, even the developers probably didn't study to this detail. They're the people you want as a playtester in development.
@carlos82 BF V offered both RTX and traditional screen space lighting. Of course, if they make breaking changes to the engine it is possible they could mandate RTX. Unlikely given PCs though, many have beefy CPU, SSD, and non RTX GPU, as well as RTX users that just want more frames, common in a competitive multiplayer title.
Edit: Destructive environments is the only thing I think could make going next-gen only worth it. I know Crackdown 3 multiplayer was a mess but it would be interesting to see something like Teardown.
@blinx01 I didn't know they didn't crossplay. I just thought they added new hair and improved lighting, breaking crossplay implies a bigger change to Frostbite. So maybe they are going all in on next gen.
Funny, after everyone begged developers to cancel last gen ports next gen consoles became scarce. All over a game that was broken on every generation of console. I wonder how ambitious BF6 will be if it's dropping last gen. If it's still on Frostbite 3 they still have non-RTX graphics, I doubt a shooter would have enough traversal to need SSD speed.
@gollumb82 A new Deus Ex would be amazing. Mankind Divided is underrated, and Cyberpunk 2077 won't be getting a sequel anytime soon. While I like open worlds not everything has to be open world and I think CDPR wasted tons of time that could have been spent making something functional like Deus Ex instead.
I got it on sale on PC and based on how it runs, it needs a big rewrite to asset streaming like Insomniac did between Sunset Overdrive and Spider Man. I have a 970 EVO NVMe SSD and Ryzen 3 3100 and there's tons of pop-in. God forbid an Xbox One with weak sauce Jaguar cores and a spinny disk.
Graphics perform well on 1080p high, and DLSS smoothes out all the drops below 60 FPS on my RTX 2060. Ray traced lighting almost performs well enough for me to put a 30 FPS cap but it drops too much to be worth it. Low lighting looks way worse and does not perform well enough to justify it. It's gonna be a long time until it performs well on base Xbox One, and given AMD ray tracing isn't much better than an RTX 2060 a next-gen patch will either target 60 or tank the FPS for ray tracing.
I'd be shocked. The game is pretty CPU hungry and not very multi-threaded. If they have a code refector maybe it could run at 720p but at a better FPS than Cyberpunk. Probably an error.
On one hand this sounds like they have to do file recovery, not a undo bad data bug. On the other I still feel bad for them, just had to deal with a case sensitivity issue recently when I rm'd by hand on an exFAT file system.
@abe_hikura HDMI->DP 1.3 adapter and a HP Reverb G2. That would be fun. I got one for my PC, Half Life Alyx, Minecraft, and Skyrim VR are blasts, as are indie games.
Arkane is always good, it's only a matter of it going viral. Dishonored did, the sequels not so much. Peformance issues on PC killed a lot of goodwill. As long as the launch is not messy it seems like a possible hit. I wonder how stable the online part of it is. Looks fun even as a single-player title, as long as it can be played offline it'll be good.
@gollumb82 I wish Epic would revive Unreal Tournament. At least Xonotic and Quake 2 RTX exist on PC, Halo scratches my FPS itch in its own way on Xbox and PC. Epic will make a Fortnite RTS before they bring back Unreal Tournament.
I wonder if this will actually be good or a mess on launch. I'd hope they know better than to repeat a Cyberpunk 2077, but Techland is probably short on cash and their internal culture sounds like a mess. I never played Dying Light but it looks great, I hope that despite the troubled gestation period this turns out good. If it is, it will be in spite of the bad management and not because of it. Hopefully Techland gets back on track.
Frostbite means graphics will probably be better but it's been so long since they used it for a golf game I suspect a lot of work will need to be done over again. Even if it does work well, I fear it will be chock full of ads and microtransactions. More competition is a good thing though, maybe Madden would actually be good if 2K had a hat in the ring.
I'm looking forward to this. Josef has a big mouth but no matter what people think about it his team makes good games. Glad EA funds them, one of the few good things to come out of EA this generation besides Squadrons, Respawn, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
I love my G2. Tracking could be better and it uses a wire but it looks great. My main concern is my PC can't push 4K on it. My 2060 only had 6GB VRAM, the Series X could probably give a little more depending on the game.
lol underpaid Crytek employee. While I don't recall Crytek being in a good place financially, the gaming industry as a whole has a bad habit of low pay, layoffs, contracts to avoid calling layoffs layoffs, and crunch.
Looks good, I wonder what the E3 trailer would look like with the current engine, and what other improvements are planned. Regardless even the potato E3 demo graphics looked fun to play.
I wouldn't have even minded an Anthem 2 but seeing them focus on singleplayer for Dragon Age 4 is great news. Let Bioware do what they're actually good at.
Good management is hard to come by. I've seen my share of toxicity in the tech industry and while no one's perfect I still never cease to be amazed at how moronic people entrusted with so much responsibility can be. Usually it involves nepotism or charisma.
@Grumblevolcano Google probably wouldn't have bought Bethesda, they just wanted to keep the partnership they already had with Doom Stadia. It keeps the cycle continuing though, time will tell if Stadia as a whole will join the Google graveyard. I kinda hope it doesn't, but I know too well. I'll probably switch to Proton Mail and Mint Mobile to get away from Gmail and Fi even though the latter has been good to me.
