Re: Feature: Here Are Our Xbox Predictions For E3 2021

VenomousAlbino

Like every year, I hold out hope for a Midtown Madness revival. I played a frankly disgusting amount of that game online on the OG Xbox and would love to see it make a comeback. Also, in today's market, it seems like it'd be easy to monetize and give a long tail, so I'm kind of surprised Microsoft hasn't brought it back already.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 29th)

Picked up Sonic Mania in the sale and I'm also eyeing up Far Cry 5 and Vanquish. I might give Maneater a go this evening, too.

What I'm not playing is MechWarrior 5. I can't read any of the text (what I assume is ammo counters) in the bottom right of the screen; it's way too small and I couldn't see any way to change it. Games still have a way to go with accessibility options.

Re: Stop The Press! A Peppa Pig Game Is Heading To Xbox This Autumn

Two of my nieces were obsessed with Peppa Pig and it's terrible. Hear me out...

Obviously I get the appeal for small children; it's bright and colourful, there's repetition and catchphrases. But it's a garbage show. Peppa herself is legitimately a terrible person; she's selfish, she's constantly moping and sulking whenever she doesn't get her own way, she will happily take the p*ss out of the other kids one moment then cry like a little b*tch when someone does the exact same thing to her... but at the end of the episode she "learns her lesson" or says that she's sorry and all is forgiven, only to be a little sh*t again in the very next episode. That's a terrible message to send to children, and I could actually go on a lot longer about how sh*try this show is.

Thankfully, my youngest niece got over Peppa Pig a lot faster than my eldest. I don't have kids but if I did I wouldn't put them anywhere near this show or related media.

(Bet you didn't think you'd be reading a rant about Peppa Pig written by a 36-year old man today. Sorry)

Re: Seven More Games Are Getting Touch Controls For Xbox Cloud Gaming

VenomousAlbino

@mousieone I understand that much; it's why Slay the Spire is playable with touch controls - it's turn-based so there's no real urgency. But if someone were to say to me "Slay the Spire benefits from touch controls", I would immediately assume that to mean that instead of using the on-screen d-pad and buttons, the game's controls are reworked so that it behaves like an iOS-native version of the game to behave controls-wise.

Now, that - from my experience - has not been the case with touch controls on xCloud; every game just uses the same on-screen controls (d-pad, analogue sticks, face buttons, etc) mapped to a touch screen. This is why I thought I was missing something: because Two Point Hospital using the touch controls I've experienced would in no way, shape or form be good, as @Flurbdurb suggested. The only way I could see Two Point Hospital benefitting from touch controls would be if it had reworked controls (i.e. you don't move a cursor to select something, you just tap on it), so I wondered if that sort of option was available on some xCloud games because to my knowledge it isn't.

Basically, this is yet another case of a phrase like "it's perfect for" or "it benefits from" really holding no water whatsoever when held up to any sort of scrutiny. It's the "perfect fit for Nintendo Switch" b*llocks all over again.

Re: Rumour: Wait, Is Tom Cruise Going To Be In Starfield?

@robe if he's voicing a role, it doesn't necessarily mean the character he's playing has to resemble him in any way. If that were the case, you'd see Nolan North's face every day for the rest of your life.

Also, I'm not associated with actors, actresses, film-makers or the film industry in any way, shape or form, and even I'm offended by your essentially referring to voice actors as not real actors. ๐Ÿ˜†

Am I missing something with touch-controlled Xbox games? Because saying Two Point Hospital will be great with touch controls leads me to believe that I am missing something.

I've tried Slay the Spire with touch controls, because that game should be perfect with touch controls... but it's just a d-pad and buttons mapped to the touch screen. If Two Point Hospital behaves the same way, then that's not an "easy to use control scheme"; it's the same control scheme with a worse input method. You're making it sound like the game will control differently, as if it were tailor made for a touchscreen interface, and that's not been my experience.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V Is Coming To Xbox Series X This November

@OliverOwen You're not wrong, but the mindset Take Two and Rockstar are in probably goes something like "why make/release a GTA6 when we're still making stupid amounts of money off GTA Online microtransactions and re-selling GTA5?"

GTA5 has been an almost constant fixture in the top 10 in the UK charts since 2013. It wouldn't surprise me if GTA6 never materialises and Rockstar's focus moving forward is purely GTA Online.
