So Capcom's E3 Showcase has been and gone and, erm, it didn't really bring a lot. In all fairness, they delivered exactly what they said they would, but even then, nothing seemed substantially new.
For Xbox fans, all we really had was Resident Evil Village news, and that segment was roughly two minutes of the entire presentation. We know Resident Evil Re:Verse is coming next month (but no date), and that Village will be getting some DLC (no more information at this time).
Maybe we're just been cynical, but we felt it was very disappointing. But its not all about us - what did you think? Anything of interest to you on other platforms, perhaps?

It was worse than Square Enix E3 event.
Absolutely shocking just like the whole of this years E3
I mean... how do you grade a presentation without reveals? I guess, as an E3 presentation, it was an F, since there was literally nothing to it.
On the other hand, even with no new info, the games they're releasing this year are still awesome, so, in that respect, it's still better than the Square-Enix show, where pretty much everything looked bad.
@Snake_V5 I actually enjoyed basically everything Square showed. Lol. Probably the best one for me.
@FatalBubbles I agree with you mainly because square catered my love for jrpgs.
Take 2 easily had the worst one
No contest that Microsoft has had the best one so far and I’d say that even if I wasn’t in the Xbox ecosystem.
E3 is about showcasing upcoming games. Doing an extended commercial for existing products is a waste of everyone's time...assuming they even bother to sit through your presentation (for the record, I didn't). Oh, and those alternating camera angles where the hostess wasn't even looking at the viewer half of the time was downright bizarre.
GRADE: HARD "F"
Fs in the chat boys.
They showed nothing new. They spent ten of their thirty minutes taking about eSports for Duty Fighter V. They announced DLC for RE8 but had nothing to show, and talked about yet another RE multiplayer game that will be dead a month after launch.
MH Stories 2 is still a thing, and they are adding pants to Monster Hunter Rise.
Then they spent ten more minutes showing off stunning gameplay of a visual novel, complete with real time text boxes!
This has then the worst E3 I've ever seen, and I've literally seem them all.
I'm starting to think Sony win E3 by not showing up, since the only winning move is not to play, and they have no games anyway.
Okay I know what VN gameplay looks like; it hasn’t changed like in literally years. I don’t think anyone doesn’t know how VNs play. Why why why??? I would rather I dunno Amibos details or something.
@Snake_V5 agreed
@FatalBubbles 70% Mobile/Live Service does not make a good show for me. So Square gets an L from me.
@awp69 The thing is if Xbox had 2019 E3 it still would been better than what we are getting. Instead. MS was prepared and the rest still trying to get their pants on… But Nintendo is tomorrow
My personal take on the E3 presentations so far:
Ubisoft: D (Only Mario & Rabbids: Spark of Hope kept it out of "F" territory, and just barely. We've seen everything they showed only about a million times already.
Microsoft: C Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 showed off the new hardware well. Starfield doesn't count because it showed zero gameplay. The rest was nothing we haven't seen before across multiple previous generations.
SquareEnix: Hard "F" What was there stank like rotting poultry
Capcom: Hard "F" The whole thing was a commercial for existing or already well-documented products
I'm looking for Nintendo to have the best overall showing this year, but I'm tempering my expectations there as well. I DON'T expect a "Switch Pro" reveal with all the existing chip shortages despite all the rumors and supposed evidence. Hopefully there will be enough games announced for the rest of 2021 to make up for any perceived disappointment on that front.
@AtlanteanMan my worry with Nintendo is that this is a big anniversary year. I feel like they’d rather put most of the juicy stuff on anniversary streams rather than a dedicated direct. I feel like this is going to be mostly third parties. That won’t make it bad but yeah.
Microsoft: A - Easily the best, 27 new game pass additions and a very bright future ahead.
Ubisoft: D - Riders Republic is definitely one to get but other then that there was nothing else, Far Cry 6 but we have already seen gameplay for that.
SquareEnix: D - Just the Guardians Game and that Final Fantasy lookalike.
Capcom: F - Why did they even bother?
Take Two: Ungraded - I mean did you see what they did?
It just made me really wish Monster Hunter Stories 2 was coming to Xbox. 😓
@mousieone I liked GoTG, FF Origins, the Black Panther trailer has me intrigued for that as well.
I wish they would have showed FF16 and Forspoken more than just a tiny teaser but either way they’ve got a lot of games coming that I’m interested in.
Sony is getting more into mobile so I expect the mobile trend will continue outside of just SE ☹️
E3 has not been impressive for maybe a decade now.
@FatalBubbles if they had shown either one of those I would have rated it differently. But we are talking about a presentation that’s supposed to introduce new/upcoming games. As is the DQ stream awhile back was far more entertaining.
@mousieone I suspect those will be shown at the next Sony State of Play so they left them out of this.
There are just too many different streams and shows throughout the year to make E3 worthwhile.
F-reaking disappointment
Seems like the whole E3 thing ain't working out overall? I've only watched the Xbox show and i would have watched it even if it was a stand alone show. Last year was horrible with the slow drip of news and the stand off between Sony and Xbox for any information on the consoles...but could that become the norm? I don't watch the Jeff K gamefest junk either so are these gaming events now dead? Each company will have their own show's at separate times in the year to get all the limelight? As a gamepass player I'm fine with it as i just care about the Xbox one but is it going to be a drag for the rest of the folks that care about the others?
Big -time yawn fest. I was pumped. Hopefully Nintendo has something killer to close it all out with tomorrow.
@3RedTriangles Think again. Can you imagine a national squad winning the World Cup by not showing up? Sony stayed home because they wanted to avoid comparisons. The Xbox Showcase made it abundantly clear why.
I gave it an A because I'm just really glad we're getting more content for village
Capcom shouldn't have even bothered. What kind of train wreck was that? 😳😳😳
Not sure I understand the disappointment - Capcom has been working under pandemic conditions and showed what they said they'd show. Don't get me wrong: I'd love to have seen a Mega Man game or the rumored RE Revelations 3. It just fulfilled exactly what my expectations were based on what the studio had said ahead of time. E3 2021 was never going to be a huge thing due to the pandemic.
The woman presenting scared me. She looked like she was auditioning for a part as The Joker the whole time.
Ironic it scored an F despite people not giving any
It was dreadful. Yes some of the games coming are great but there was nothing to write home about. Literally nothing.
So far Xbox nailed it and Square Enix will just be relieved that they didn’t have the worse show in the end.
Over to Nintendo now who literally cannot fail unless they show no games at all. Capcom - it felt like they had slipped me into a CapComa!
@booker_steve Kaboom Chush!
It was a pathetic joke, a company like that with the roster of games like it has, and that's the best they could manage? It came across as though they left the work experience lad come up with it whilst he was sat on the toilet in his lunch break or something...
Microsoft's event was just in another league over all the others so far.
@gingataisen Yeap because Sony has nothing to show, it would literally have been, here's a show reel if all the games you've already seen, and knowing them some more 'exclusive PS5' titles coming to PS4.
Meanwhile Microsoft are showcasing new gameplay and new Xbox exclusive games left and right.
D, because at least I'm excited to play Ace Attorney Chronicles. It was literally pointless Capcom doing a presentation. Although, not as pointless as Take Two's "effort".
@gingataisen Sony hasn't shown up because they're pretty much done with E3. When has Sony ever been "scared" of Microsoft when it comes to games?! I like Xbox like the next guy, but don't do that. Xbox JUST started presenting notable games outside of Gears, Halo, and Forza.
@Rafie When 27 out of 30 games shown are coming to Game Pass day and date. Whatever PlayStation has to show, it's $70/€80 a pop no matter what. 😬
Only Koch Media's woeful 'presentation' prevented me giving this an F. That was another level of bad.
@gingataisen " it's $70/€80 a pop no matter what."
I agree with your general point. Game Pass is great (though not for everyone) and the upcoming lineup is brilliant.
But one correction: Not all games are $70/£70/€80 e.g.
It's currently the vast minority of games, mostly Sony first-party AAA games, that are £70.
@themightyant Okay, but that really changes nothing, specially since like you said, "mostly Sony first-party AAA games, that are £70."
But hey, if Sony is fine with this, so am I. 😏
