Biomutant is releasing on May 25 and it's got us thinking about all the cute and cuddly platforming heroes that have made their way onto Xbox over the years. Many iconic heroes have found a special place in our hearts - but which one resonated with you the most?
Maybe its Rare's very own bear and bird, Banjo-Kazooie, or perhaps you're feeling old school with a bit of Ubisoft's Rayman? So many of these legends have cemented themselves as all-time greats, but if you could only pick one to rally behind, who would it be?
Take a gander over the nominees and choose your winner:

If it was an option, then I would choose Mario. Since I can't do that, I'll choose Crash.
Sonic Generations. Probably the best Sonic game since the 90s. Although Mania is pretty awesome too.
I chose Sonic as he is the most iconic. He and his plumber rival (now friend) clearly helped to bring gaming to popularity and shaped the early years of home consoles.
Banjo and Kazooie hold a special place in my heart though.
Obviously this only includes Xbox platformers, but there are some others out there that would sit alongside these from other companies.
Banjo and Kazooie. Banjo is kind and naive, Kazooie is sarcastic and funny and together they have a great move set. Super Mario World is one of my favourite games ever but so are the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. Sonic has a great design and physics. Rayman Legends is brilliant, too. Best characters, though? Banjo and Kazooie 👌.
I know this is a bit of an aside, but I always thought Klonoa was an underrated masterpiece. That game blew my mind back in the late 90’s.
Sonic, of course.
Outside of the Xbox ecosystem, Alucard. 🦇
Banjo for sure! Though Sonic is a VERY close second!
If i had to pick one it would be Donkey Kong but seeing he's not on the list I'll go with Crash and Spyro.
cough*Raz*cough
...It’s Banjo-Kazooie though
You Forgot Conker
@Areus True and both editions are available on Xbox, the original N64 game and the remake.
I wish I could say Sonic. But at this point, Sonic is way past his prime and has been for awhile. And while I have plenty of good memories of Sonic, most of those recent memories are bad. Banjo Kazooie at least still brings me fond memories even though they are from a long time ago. If they announced a new Banjo, I'd be excited. If they announced a new Sonic, I'd be like : "here we go again"
LARA CROFT you freaking heathens.
Within Xbox ecosystem: Raz: Psychonauts
Outside of the Xbox ecosystem: Mario: Super Mario 3D Land
Also even within the Xbox ecosystem your missing too many good ones:
Hat Girl: A Hat in Time
SquarePants SpongeBob: Bikini Bottom
Yooka & Laylee, Yooka Laylee
Vince: Voodoo Vince
Just of the top of my head, and those are 'true' platformers. Biomutant is not.
Much as I like the look of it, Biomutant honestly looks more like an action adventure in the vein of the Breath of the Wind or Immortals Fenyx Rising variety - so it's a weird basis for this article.
@3RedTriangles "Cute and cuddly"... Lara croft... Sure. I'll take it lol
@3RedTriangles It has plenty of platforms sure, but so does Doom Eternal. Tomb Raider is an Action Adventure Game - not what is traditionally thought of as a platform game.
Of course genres are a bit broken these days, but going by established gaming conventions...
Sonic and Banjo.
The Goofy banjo makes me laugh, smashing the S.h.i.t out of your enemies and hearing. His funny sound.
Dear Rareware,
I was 15 when the awesome Banjo Kazooie came out and it has been 21 years since Banjo Tooie was released. As you can see I am almost middle age and not getting any younger. Please consider releasing another Banjo game before we are too old.
Thank you.
Sonic, Crash or Spyro out of this list.
But if I chose an Xbox character then it would be Ori!
Conker and Banjo blew me away on N64 and they still do today on Xbox. Surely now would be a great time for sequels. 3D platformers haven't been this popular in years.
If you're not voting for Blinx then you're not an xbox fan. 💁🏻♂️😋
Sonic the Hedgehog but only in 2D I'm not a psychopath.
@Kopite that should be something that's looked at when officially testing someone for psychopathy.
Also... @Flurbdurb Rayman 3? Really? Play Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends and you'll see that Rayman is actually the correct answer. 😁
Megaman > all
Then honestly Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Ratchet and Clank top Banjo, but he’s a fantastic representative of the genre.
The protagonist from recore
@Don LOL So True.
Mario. Sorry, Xbox.
Spyros my favourite then crash then sonic then mario then rayman
I understand this survey is limited to Platformer heroes that have been on Xbox… but where os Psychonauts’ Raz?!
@somnambulance huge mega man fan but never seen those games as platformers, even if there is some of that in those games. I find games stop being Platformers as soon as bullets start flying.
Mmmmm I refuse to vote in this poll!
Diddy Kong
From SNES Donkey Kong Country
He has a beautiful roll jump and barrel hold.
Sonic. Always been a sonic fan since I was a young kid in the early 90s. A SEGA purchase/exclusive deal would be epic for Microsoft.
Conker and banjo
@VenomousAlbino anyone who likes 3D Sonic needs to be put in solitary 😄
Rayman, because he is "with me" since 1995.
I like Xbox but it's not my go to place for platforming games, illustrated perfectly here and most of the entries are remakes/ports from other consoles. Banjo's best contributions were from the N64, same for Conker who's weirdly absent, I guess I'll go with Sonic as the recent Sonic Mania is fantastic and Generations was pretty great too
On this list, for Xbox-specific ones it's easily Banjo and Kazooie. As for Xbox exclusive ones not on the list, it's Conker. Conker's Bad Fur Day is a glorious game.
Interesting you should use a banjo kazooie picture that has nintendo copyright?
I chose Spyro as he's the most familiar and nostalgic to me.
Mario and Sonic are to special. Here, it's banjo, Raz, conkers, blinx.
Easily Spyro to be honest, the original Spyro trilogy was my favorite growing up and I still think they are very special games. Obviously Mario and Sonic are the biggest, but when it comes to a #3 Spyro has always been a solid #3 for me.
To be honest I could never understand the love some people have for Banjo Kazooie, and I say that as someone who had a N64 growing up. It was never really a highlight series for me back then, and I never really thought the games were anything particularly special to play. Lots of that classic Rare charm no doubt, but ultimately I always considered them to be rather low on my platforming mascot list.
Sonic out of these options. Don't really associate most of these characters with Xbox though.
@Tharsman What about Ratchet and Clank though?
@somnambulance never considered it a platformer, always seen it as more of a third person shooter. Having cute graphics and Disney like design don’t make things into platformers.
@Tharsman I’d consider them action platformers. Same as Megaman. Interesting perspective though. Genres are such a thin line in games. I think Nintendolife had an article about this exact topic last week.
where is Jersey Devil?
Everytime Sonic enters the conversation, I'm always surprised by how many and how loyal his fans are.
I played a lot of crash bandicoot growing up
Sam Fisher. Or Spyro.
