I’m afraid to say our initial experience of Baldur’s Gate 3 online multiplayer has been a poor one on Xbox.

Over a 3 hr session we had many glitches including having to restart the game just to get a session started. On getting defeated my wife got booted to her own single player game. I had to invite her back in again. At one point her controller stopped allowing her to loot stuff. Combat on her side had been fairly glitchy too.

Some of this you could put down to our inexperience with the genre but a lot of it was straight issues with the game.

Generally compared to single player it was a less than ideal experience. Waiting for party members to take turns. Missing the character speak in cutscenes (despite listening in). It’s just not quite as good as playing solo.

We're considering playing split screen for a little bit to see if that helps. At least we’ll be in the same room. I chose online multiplayer for extra screen space but I think I’ll just end up playing the game solo eventually.

Other than that? Halo Infinite probably. Firefight is amazing! Just got my first perfection with top damage too. Love that mode so much.

Internet scalpers have really ruined the concept of limited edition consoles. The last limited edition console I got was the Halo 4 Xbox 360 slim. Not exactly pre-internet but it was something you could go to your local GAME and pick up.

Maybe I'm just salty because Xbox Series X|S launched during COVID when scalpers were at an all time high.

@Markatron84 it's a shame. They really moved away from "equal starts" which is the foundation of a good Halo multiplayer. Reach and 4 being the outliers with loadouts.

Personally I always felt like Bungie should have gone the way of Guild Wars 1 where you could create a PvP character who could buy equipment from a PvP only vendor. This character could not be used in PvE. PvE characters can still be used in PvP if they wanted. It mitigates some of the grind needed like powerful weapons locked behind raids or 100s of hours of content.

I don't blame anyone for playing Destiny 1 or 2 they've crafted a long journey for people and their guardians but as someone who couldn't care less about the PvE side of things it stopped appealing to me a long, long time ago.

It’s a real shame see Bungie end up this way. The reality though is this hasn’t been a sprint to infamy they’ve treated it like a marathon.

I didn’t mind Destiny and Destiny 2 early on but it never felt like a worthy successor to Halo where it mattered to me, the PvP. Creatively elsewhere the game is great but mechanically and systems-wise awful.
