Back in early October, 343 Industries announced Firefight's grand return to Halo - in the form of 'Firefight: King of the Hill' mode for Halo Infinite. Fast forward two months and we've been hands-on with the game mode ahead of its addition to Halo Infinite Season 5 - and it's safe to say that Firefight feels right at home in 343's latest Halo title.
Outside of the game's campaign, Infinite has been all about PvP so far, especially in its live service efforts. However, Firefight KOTH finally adds a much-needed slice of new co-op action to the game's multiplayer suite, delivering a more casual experience for long-time fans of PvE Halo.
This new spin on the mode mixes things up nicely too, but it still ultimately feels like Firefight. Enemies pile into the ring as you and your squad fight off baddies from Halo Infinite - including familiar foes from the game's campaign such big bad bosses like Esharum. It's a very fun time all around and we can see ourselves jumping into this for months to come!
If you want to watch some Firefight gameplay ahead of its public launch, do check out our video producer wreaking some Halo havoc - we have roughly 20-minutes of early gameplay up above! If you'd prefer a quick snapshot of Craig's thoughts before playing it for yourself, here's what he thought of his Firefight preview session:
"I felt an overwhelming sense of joy diving into a new Firefight experience in 2023. Firefight fits perfectly into Halo Infinite as another casual outlet for players who loved the campaign but don't really care for the sweaty PVP lobbies. I can't wait to see where they go with Firefight in Halo Infinite."
We reckon this is going to be a great addition to Halo Infinite, then - Firefight should provide some lovely variety to Halo multiplayer as Infinite continues to truck on.

split screen? no, course not.
@G1lbo
It has had split screen up to this point.
Did they change something? I've been playing 4 player split screen on Firefight at my weekly, Friday, game night. Via custom games.
We've played on everything from Helm's Deep to remake of levels from the OG Halo.
@InterceptorAlpha in that case i've been slow on the uptake. like REALLY slow...as in...REALLY REALLY slow.
Thanks.
Really excited about this one. Hopefully a PVE experience will be a nice change than PVP all the time.
The maps look fun too.
@G1lbo split screen coop campaign got canned but multiplayer it’s apparently a thing. Never tried it myself.
Can this be played in two player private co-op, @Kezelpaso? I hope my question is clear. My mate and I play Gears 5 Horde in a private game as a duo, as I was wondering whether the same can be done in Firefight, or whether there were a certain number of people that had to be playing, so it meant playing with a number of random people. Thanks...
@G1lbo no worries at all!
@Fiendish-Beaver I play Firefight in 4 player splitscreen in private, custom, games almost every week.
@ParsnipHero thats really where my frustration stems from! i'd love to do coop campaign with my 10 year old, so basically i've just assumed it doesn't exist in any guise in that game as a whole.
so yep - very grateful for the tip from @InterceptorAlpha - that makes up for lack of campaign coop in some part.
@G1lbo I bet you would. I'm sorry that you're not able to do so. 343 really dropped the ball your split screen coop fans.
@Fiendish-Beaver you should be able to do a custom game from tomorrow. I don't know if the difficulty will scale though.
Thank you, @ParsnipHero. Good to know...
Cool. Thank you, @InterceptorAlpha...
@ParsnipHero If anything being able to make Split-Screen work for Multiplayer and not the much less frantic Campaign makes it less excusable.
@shoeses The campaign area is huge though, takes ages to get from one end to the other even in a Banshee
@Widey85 And? You're playing co-op. Whether it's doing objectives, exploring, or just messing around, you're gonna be in the same general area as the other players. Even if not, 343 already made a solution to it in their first game by teleporting other players to another if they get too far apart.
Nice, coop is the only way I really enjoy playing games online anymore.
I've been wanting to download halo infinite again for awhile and this is making me want to even more. Playing a lot of starfield right now though.
I wonder if I can shoehorn this in this week, my crew is loving Darktide and we have a scheduled weekly Remnant 2 night. It's going to take some convincing, none of them enjoyed Infinite as much as me.
@G1lbo I could never stand split screen. As you know, halo infinite is now 4 player co-op through the campaign. What I did was bought my 9yo an Xbox, set up a second tv, signed him up for game pass. He and I play co-op on so many games now. Especially Halo. And once you have this setup Sea of Thieves is the absolute best kid-co-op.
