Back in early October, 343 Industries announced Firefight's grand return to Halo - in the form of 'Firefight: King of the Hill' mode for Halo Infinite. Fast forward two months and we've been hands-on with the game mode ahead of its addition to Halo Infinite Season 5 - and it's safe to say that Firefight feels right at home in 343's latest Halo title.
Outside of the game's campaign, Infinite has been all about PvP so far, especially in its live service efforts. However, Firefight KOTH finally adds a much-needed slice of new co-op action to the game's multiplayer suite, delivering a more casual experience for long-time fans of PvE Halo.
This new spin on the mode mixes things up nicely too, but it still ultimately feels like Firefight. Enemies pile into the ring as you and your squad fight off baddies from Halo Infinite - including familiar foes from the game's campaign such big bad bosses like Esharum. It's a very fun time all around and we can see ourselves jumping into this for months to come!
If you want to watch some Firefight gameplay ahead of its public launch, do check out our video producer wreaking some Halo havoc - we have roughly 20-minutes of early gameplay up above! If you'd prefer a quick snapshot of Craig's thoughts before playing it for yourself, here's what he thought of his Firefight preview session:
"I felt an overwhelming sense of joy diving into a new Firefight experience in 2023. Firefight fits perfectly into Halo Infinite as another casual outlet for players who loved the campaign but don't really care for the sweaty PVP lobbies. I can't wait to see where they go with Firefight in Halo Infinite."
We reckon this is going to be a great addition to Halo Infinite, then - Firefight should provide some lovely variety to Halo multiplayer as Infinite continues to truck on.
