Earlier today we spotted some neat-looking console wraps for Xbox Series S, and that got us thinking about the future of limited edition consoles from Microsoft. Sure, these Series S wraps are totally unofficial, but Microsoft's Series X ones are official - and their very existence could spell the end for limited edition consoles this generation.
About a year ago, way before Xbox's console wraps were a thing, we ranted about how much we wanted to see the next 'LE' console - after all, it'd been around a year since the last one back then. Now though, we're not even sure we'll ever see another one, at least for the current generation.
Microsoft's reasoning for console wraps existing was because it deemed them "more affordable and more sustainable than purchasing a special edition or limited edition console", which we totally understand. It's very cool for owners of the standard Series X to be able to upgrade with the purchase of one of these - especially if we keep seeing cool game-themed wraps like the Starfield edition.
