I mean no Baldur’s Gate Xbox release date/10.
The “time to join the party” trailer announcing the physical release was such a tease.
Edit: I realize the game got shadow dropped. Thanks for the tip @Aidax89!
Ummm so what was the game pass news we wouldnt want to miss???
I’m quite disappointed that there wasn’t even a date for BG3 and the lack of new GamePass titles.
Other than that, quite a few things I liked. Visions of Mana, No Rest For The Wicked, Blade, Hellblade 2 (graphics are nuts) and Exodus.
Where was Phil Spencer and Xbox/Balderstone Gate announcement. Now 4am in UK felt I wasted my time. Let down by Xbox yet again
Overall I enjoyed it! I give it a B.
Kind of a shame there was no Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox announcement.
OD has piqued my interest and sounds like it has a lot of talent behind it.
Blade was a standout surprise
Shocked we didn't get more than a 2024 release for Hellblade 2.
Congrats to Remedy for Alan Wake 2
Congrats to Tango Gameworks for Hi-Fi Rush
Congrats to Turn 10 for Forza Motorsport
Congrats to Larian Studios for Baldur's Gate 3
Congrats to Nintendo for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pikmin 4, and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Congrats to Square Enix for Final Fantasy XVI
@Muddy it is available to buy on xbox store now
B. Sega stole the show for me.
@Aidax89 Wow, talk about shadow drop. It was so much in the shadows, no one knew about it.
@Lup i went with C and Sega also stole the show for me. There was very little to be excited about for my gaming tastes. But wow did Xbox ever once again let down a chance to build some type of momentum heading into the year. This is why Xbox takes so much heat online. They told players to be excited and for what really? Sure HellBlade 2 looks insane. But i left feeling without Sega i wasted my time tonight and should have just played Diablo 4 instead.
Might be just me but that was surprisingly good. Awards stuffs don't take much time then back to back-to-back world premieres. B from me, i watched till the end.
I really gave it a D. Could have been less. Absolutely don’t like the setup of the game awards. There’s almost no time for the awards themselves, most awards go by in a bleep. It’s just one big advertisement.
I went in expecting nothing. I didn’t watch it but just now caught up on the articles and trailers… And now there are 8 games I’m excited for:
Jurassic Park: Survival, Monster Hunter Wilds, Exodus, Marvel’s Blade, World of Goo 2, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, and Jet Set Radio.
Easy A for me.
Baldurs Gate 3 is available right now. Yey!
Overall solid. Can't complain too much.
Nothing short of a disaster. While I never expected an Xbox game to take the prize (Forza is my top pick, but I realize it’s a little more niche) I at least expected something you know good.
Expected at least one decent sized GP announcement, and some idea of what the game from Xbox is at the start of next year (remember the big game every 3 months strategy?).
BG3 shadow drop was predictable, but without GP or a demo (there's a 2 hour one on PS5 grr) I'm unsure if I'll like the turn based combat, and without GP we've got no compensation for it being months later than everywhere else.
So while the trailers look nice and there's a few potentially interesting games, it does feel like yet another missed opportunity - PS5 got an FF16 DLC released now, have the Ronin game and LoU2 remaster early next year and a free DLC for GoW Ragnarok in the next few weeks.
Xbox now have like 5 times as many studios - why doesn't it ever feel like it?!
I gave the show a D as in my opinion it was heavy on advertising and light on news. The awards parts were rushed and my expectations were obviously way too high….
Well have looked at the show now, did not watch live and out of all the big three, Xbox had the best show for me.
The other two was just nothing really, biggest disappointment was GOWR dlc not being campaign at all.
Well done Xbox best in show this year.
Bad for me no gears
Probably the best yet, but it still had a lull. I wasn’t expecting to stay up to watch it but the first couple of hours had so many good games. But then there was the inevitable lull, I fell asleep for a bit, then the final trailer Monster Hunter Wilds was expected and a bit safe. B+
So weird that Xbox had trailer spots, and didn't announce BG3 during any of them? Even had a whole ass Starfield trailer at one point!
I found the show a bit underwhelming, the awards and interviews didn't flow great this year, and even though it had variety looking back, the way they organised it a lot of the games felt very similar to one another with different skins (also the trailers directorially often seemed the same, vague, shadowy scene with someone saying something ominous with no context). But that SEGA announcement blew me away!
Hellblade 2 graphics look insane ,but why was everything in slow motion or was it just running at 10fps
Without any information on Shadow of the Erdtree it was never going to live up to my internal expectations. What a shame, this all but confirms the DLC is releasing in the second half of 2024 now. It’ll be worth the wait, but the wait isn’t easy to endure.
I'm wincing about the fact that best 'ongoing' game went to a title... that they just ENDED development on a few weeks back. Seriously, CD Projekt Red went on stage, said their speech, knowing full well they didn't deserve it.
Never mind how underwhelming most of the World Premieres were.
I live in the UK, and stayed up until gone 4 a.m. to watch the show. Overall I enjoyed it, and so gave it a B. I think the show was perhaps lighter on Xbox games than I would have liked, whereas the PlayStation had 4 exclusives announced. From what I can remember, Xbox only had Blade and Hellblade 2, which I am looking forward to. Blade films are some of my early favourite Marvel films, so I am hoping that the game will be good.
OD was shown too, but I am not entirely certain what it is as the trailer was, er... odd!
The biggest negative for me was that there were no Gears of War announcements of any nature at all. I had hoped that this long rumoured Marcus Fenix Trilogy remaster was real and would receive a shadow-drop, or at the very least an announcement, but nope! Disappointed once again.
My only hope is that the reason the show was a little Xbox-lite is because Microsoft plan a showcase very early next year. One can hope, I guess...
Never been a fan of gaming shows like this as it just seemed to be a trailers show with an award or two thrown in between them. I tried watching it and gave up half way as it was too over produced. It seems to have almost replaced E3 in people's minds as them expecting huge announcements and also seems to lack identity on if it wants to be an award show or an overly long press conference of new and upcoming game releases.
@Fiendish-Beaver Stayed up too for the show, on the Netherlands, was entertaining, agree mostly with your take, although you mentioned 4 exclusives announced for Playstation, haven't checked or anything, but outside of the free DLC for Gow, wow free stuff from Sony, amazing, I can't remember announced exclusives , and don't count Hellblade either that's been on TGA every year forever lol
@Grackler that starfield trailer made me laugh to be honest showing the high scores the game got seems to me like bethesda are trying tell people their games amazing and no ones buying in to their rubbish well done gamers
TGA is a bunch of gorillas with a certain vision about videogames trying to put it down the throat to everyone. Their awards reflect that with a very visible tendency, every year.
Geoff is a narcissistic fanboy with no authentic respect for creators and videogames as a diverse social experience.
Enjoyed the show and gave it a B. If I were xbox only I might be more critical as I dont see why they built this show up?
Hellblade continues to look like a great film where the team are annoyed at having to introduce any interactivity. My tip for biggest dissapointment of next year, but I hope Im wrong and theres a game hidden underneath all the hype.
Sega won the show for me, as soon as I saw a new Golden Axe I was in hype mode! Nostalgia is a powerful emotion.
Best surprise for me was the ff16 dlc shadow drop. I know the game was devisive, but I enjoyed it a lot and want more....
I gave it a C, due to it having mostly cinematic trailers for big games and way to much pr talk.
The best part about waiting and watching the trailers after the show is that I can just skip over all the pointless cinematic trailers. They're a complete waste of time. I'm annoyed that the marketing BS works on enough people that we will never stop getting them.
I'd go with a B. Better than it's been in recent years. Still think they need to cut down the time somehow but overall a decent showing.
D+
Highlights for me were the Blade announcement for Xbox and Rise of The Ronin release date for PlayStation. The tame crowd reaction said it all. The biggest cheer of the night was for the free God of War dlc!
The best trailer came out a few days ago. Other really big hitters live Persona 6, Wolverine New AC games and even stuff like Silksong still missing.
@Lup Can’t believe I agree that the Sega announcement was the best thing at this years show. Haha. Really intrigued by Crazy Taxi and the visuals of Jet Set Radio looked **** hot.
Very weak show, glad I didn’t stay up. Just watched it and really wish I’d just looked online and read about the announcements.
It go with a d for me seeing celebrities waste time on stage and then having the winners the developers be told hurry up basically is a disgrace they are the most important people in the gaming industry and they deserve a good speech and at least time to talk
After reading the comments, I'm happy that I didn't watch The Game Awards. Pure Xbox delivered every single headline. Xbox didn't have much new to show here as I predicted, but neither did Sony with their DLC and yet more remasters.
@Dan1283 I agree.
