Of course console sales are down. You can play most Xbox games on cloud and if you are at home it’s all good. Xbox are not bothered about console sales. Xbox is a cloud company and that’s it.
There isn’t really anything like a next gen anymore. What we see now is upgrades after upgrades. The days of next gen that we saw with 16bit to 32 bit and so on are long gone. These kid cycle upgrades are not really necessary and this time around not at all. Let’s just focus on the games.
Nintendo innovated this style many moons ago now. Not a great surprise that both Xbox and Sony have ‘borrowed’ that approach. It was polished but it was hardly a mind blowing number of games. Xbox is still very much a third party console.
@Romans12 I love GamePass but Xbox is starting to feel like subscription service only. This year does look better but still not as good as it surely should be.
This is bad news. You can’t see it as anything else. It’s to be hoped that the deal for Activison Blizzard goes through. If that does collapse, Xbox is in a whole heap of trouble.
Plague Tale for me. Just so good although there were times I just let the rats take Hugo as he does get annoying! Great writing and really immersive gameplay. Elden Ring…. Meh. One of the most boring games I played this year.
I don’t get these price excuses. A streaming box doesn’t need to cost a lot to make nor sell. Pretty much every TV in every home has internet so just do the app that way. Connect the controller. Stadia may have collapsed but it ran well. I suspect it’s more about the fact that Xcloud is still not that good than anything else.
It won’t come to other TV’s. It will Samsung only due to the deal and then they will release a stick and streaming box. Doubt it will happen soon though. Cloud is still inconsistent though. Needs a lot of work/
I can’t see any reason now why it won’t go through. Nintendo are clearly fine with it and the only people playing games ironically is Sony. As each story breaks, Sony start to look more and more like Ronaldo - petulant and just throwing toys out of the pram. Their stance gets more pathetic with each passing day and any sympathy for them has now pretty much evaporated. Xbox have offered the hand of friendship and collaboration but Sony are just playing games that are not necessary. The deal will go through and before long, no one will even notice any changes Xbox and Nintendo are focused on games. Sony are focused o. Being anything but ‘for the players.’
@Dezzy70 Okay - so in UK, my 2 local Argos have had Xbox Series X and S in stock for months. Trouble is, as soon as they come in, they sell-out. PS5’s? Rarely in stock because they cant get the supplies. You can't sell something you don't have. You have interviewed all these stores then? They are all terrified of having stock they can't sell? If they cant sell them after 6 weeks they return them. That's how it works and has done for decades. The Wii U sat on shelves for months but stores returned them. It happens. But Xbox isn't at that point, not even close! Why do you think we now have cross play? Because people have different consoles. Xbox has been a huge champion of cross play because they want games on as many platforms as possible! That's why. Play on what you want. Enjoy gaming!
@Dezzy70 I know people with both or all 3. This isn't the old days of console wars. The term next gen is no longer valid. When we went from 8bit to 16bit etc, the leap was impressive. All we are seeing now is upgrades. Xbox doesn't need to change at all. People are playing Xbox on PC, Tablets, phones. It's an ecosystem. If you don't understand Xbox’s market now, you never will.
@somnambulance The deal will go through. And if it doesn't we all know what Sony will do. They will try and do a deal themselves. That's going to happen. They all need to get on with games![
@Dezzy70 Xbox offers better value for money right now than any other. Other than Nintendo’s own IP’s, there is zero reason to own one anymore. But, the sales still rise and rise. That's Nintendo putting Switch in-your-face at the right times every time. As for PlayStation... Adverts everywhere. Sales still up but a lack of games. Xbox are aiming for a market where you can play their games on any and every system. Until people realise the obvious, I do despair that people will just keep arguing about not a lot.
@S1ayeR74 When all platforms are doing well , gamers are the best off! Competition breeds quality. Always been the case. The 90’s saw the console wars and I for one had hoped they had faded away by now. Sony has bossed the last few years - 10 years - but surely it doesn’t matter? This deal should go through. It won’t change anything. CoD will still be on PS5. The only issue here is that Jim Ryan has lost sight of ‘for the players.’ The best thing that PlayStation can do is get rid of Ryan. He's just a moaner and ha lost the way.
@Would_you_kindly You do know that Push Square and Pure Xbox and Nintendo Life are all the same people? You do know that don’t you? Same set up? Often same people covering the stuff? You do know that? Please tell me you know that. 😂
@Dezzy70 Microsoft are delivering value for money. GamePass is superb and in the middle of a cost of living crisis, I can’t see why anyone would ignore Xbox. As for Xbox not advertising, I see maybe 5 or 6 adverts a day in the UK on Sky channels , sports channels mostly so not sure what you are watching? Sony ate the company who are against the gamer this time round. In all honesty, Nintendo must be sat laughing loudest. They have an underpowered system still selling like mad after 5 years! Concentrate on the games and that’s all that matters. Xbox is focusing on giving all gamers a good deal. This deal doesn’t kill off PlayStation. Nothing of the sort.
‘Microsoft want Sony to become like Nintendo.’ What an utter load of rubbish. If anything, Sony are jealous that MS have such a good relationship with Nintendo!
Seriously, I got over console wars in the early 90’s but right now the constant whingeing from Sony is just pathetic. Jim Ryan would be much better thinking about getting better content on the PS5, making their subscription service more enticing to gamers and actually getting on with being ‘for the players’ something they seem to have totally forgotten about right now.
@Syeiko013 I totally agree with you. Xbox needs to focus on making the service better - simple as that right now. It’s okay when it works but it’s far to unreliable. Get the reliability sorted first. I am still surprised at how bad it can be tbh.
In the UK, the technology and broadband infrastructure needs to seriously improve. Stadia was a dud BUT it ran well wherever I tried it. Whether that be at home or out and about on 4G. Very rarely were there any issues but then again there weren’t millions trying to be on it so that had some impact. The issue with Xcloud is that is far to unreliable. Even at home where I have super fast broadband and a good connection, it lags and often stutters - that’s not even close to being acceptable. So unless you have a really good 5G connection when out and about, cloud gaming is just not going to make next Gen portable unless Nintendo power up the Switch or Xbox and PlayStation re enter the market which is highly unlikely. Keystone could be fine and a decent entry level for many but you can already play on your tablet and soon on Smart TV’s so in all honesty what is the point. It’s about as useful as the Logitech portable and that’s the most pointless invention since …….
COD on Switch? Mobile version yes but it’s B-roads please no. It would be awful and every cloud game on Switch is terrible. Unless Nintendo bring out a more powerful Switch of course. Since I have had Xbox Series X/S and a Backbone controller I haven’t picked my Switch up for months and months. Apologies. I digress.
Series S is a great machine. I live mine with the XScreen. I’m rarely without it.
These complaints are about lazy developers who just cannot be arsed! Sorry but I hear people saying that we should not refer devs as lazy but this is a prime of example of why some are. The extra effort to get games dunking smooth on Series S is minimal. They can get them running on Xbox One and PS4 fine so this is just devs who are moaning and simply cannot be arsed to do their jobs.
The Series S is perfectly fine, plenty powerful and will be around for a long time. Some devs just need to get a grip and get on with doing their jobs!
@Dusk_Actual Xcloud and remote play but also so many Apple Arcade games. Apple Arcade is great and needs more love. Tower of Fantasy, Jet Set 2 , Bomberman, Sociable Soccer, COD Mobile although not on Arcade are superb. My switch is gathering dust. Unless I want a specific Nintendo game there is no need to own it at all.
I had a Razr Kishi and whilst the buttons were fine, it never felt 100% sturdy. I’ve also tried the GameSir devices and liked them better than the Kishi. Overall though, the Backbone One is , for me by far and away the very best controller for my iPhone out there. I have a spare iPhone and use that as my go to handheld device now. Can’t think of anything better. Since I’ve had the BackBone and spare ProMax Phone , I literally haven’t even picked up my Nintendo Switch for 4 months!
Hopefully now Xcloud will teach the quality and performance of Stadia. Whilst it has been a failure, when I had it it was very impressive graphically and performance wise with little issues. Even now, Xcloud is too inconsistent
To be hoped it does all go though because of not Activision will be in huge trouble and Microsfoft will; suffer pretty big financial paid. MS can probably stand that but if it fails to go ahead it leaves MS in a precarious position, not least reputation wise.
After the disappointment of the truly awful Saints Row - I loved that series as its just so off the wall and daft so was gutted - I pre download this and it is simply brilliant. Streets of Rage on steroids. It's simple, it's addictive, it looks stunning and the soundtrack is superb. My fave indie title of 2022 so far. I can't recommend this highly enough. Gameplay is everything and this hits the mark on the head. A lot! 9/10 from me.
@Kilamanjaro still go back now and again. It’s just not for me. Like I said, I get why some will love it but it just doesn’t feel that exciting or enthralling to me.
