Re: Talking Point: What's Your 2022 Game Of The Year So Far?

MjJmediablogger

Shredders Revenge for me. Superb. Great game and full of nostalgia. Elden Ring is one of the dullest games I have played this year. I kind of get it but is it a game that’s really up there with some of the very best? Not even close for me. Loads of aesthetic quality but a total lack of substance. Give me Cowabunga any day of the week!

@Carck For me what is needed is a price change. I take your point about there is only so much you can change but they get away with selling the same game every year. It should be 15 quid at most. The devs are not exactly working hard to get this out are they? Yes it’s still good but it amazes me that consumers will waste 50 quid a year to play a game thru already own.

Re: Former Xbox Exec 'Scared' That Game Pass May Hurt Game Sales

Also, GamePass is nothing like Spotify. Spotify don’t pay artists. Well they do but is pennies. That is why it has killed a lot of the business and why many have started to take their music off the service. It’s basically like piracy. Anyone who has Spotify has no understanding of the music business at all.

Xbox are still paying devs and publishers their rightful money and therefore the comparison is totally misguided and just another big wig trying to scaremonger when it’s not needed. Microsoft have plenty of reserves and they can afford to operate this model. It’s why devs want their games on the service and the impact on physical sales is minimal if anything at all.

GamePass is consumer friendly and it just means people try before they buy rather than not but at all and that is a big difference in this issue.

Right now GamePass is awesome. Why would I spend money if I don’t have to. It certainly won’t hurt the industry as a whole - that’s just nonsense. Nintendo sales are still sky high and their physical sales are not slowing down. It MAY affect Xbox at some stage but that’s what their execs are paid to deal with. All I see right now is great games being accessible to even more people. How is that bad? It’s not.

Re: Video: Here's A Nostalgic Look At Official Xbox Magazine Demo Discs

With so many great indie print mags out there - Ninth Fresh, Sega Mania, Sega Powered, Fusion etc - I am surprised no one has got an Xbox mag on the go. There is still a print PlayStation magazine on shelves and I would love a new Xbox magazine bug no one seems to do one. A real shame that. Sites like her are great bug they are no replacement for the days of print media which was always best and remains best IMO. No offence intended.

Re: Sony CFO Says That Game Pass-Style Launches Would Cause Exclusives To 'Deteriorate'

MjJmediablogger

It’s an interesting point but I think Sony would be better sorting out their own house right now. I haven’t had access to so many superb, high quality games as I had had since owning a Series S and mainly thanks to Game Pass. I just don’t buy the idea that it in any way reduces quality. In fact it does the opposite.

Sony can do what they want but right now I have more than I want with Xbox and also am not having to fork out sky high prices for a lot of games.

Xbox have proven they can have a subscription service, make it work and still maintain the highest of quality and for a gamer that is absolutely spot on and what I want.

Re: Xbox Game Studios Titles Officially Arrive On Steam Deck

Have been playing with one of these heavy duty portable consoles. And…Look and feel great. Screen is nice and actually it’s not too heavy at all. But there are so many bugs when trying to download games and stream at times.
It feels very rushed and for the price it’s not really worth it. They will bring out an updated version in the next 2 years and maybe then it will be a mainstream handheld, but right now it’s just feels a little bit undercooked.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Xbox Emulation Running On Valve's Steam Deck

MjJmediablogger

The issue with this handheld is that it’s only worth it if you have Steam - yes I know I’m being captain obvious here - but unless you really want to play mobile in the house it’s battery life is dreadful. If you could download games from Xbox to it then I would be interested for sure but Xcloud isn’t that great at the best of times. The only place I can play Xcloud is on my phone or I pad at home. 5G hasn’t reached Derbyshire and it’s shoddy in a lot of places.
Steam Deck is after a very specific audience and I can’t see it becoming a huge mainstream success like Switch.
I’ll wait until they upgrade it maybe and it has more to offer. For now it’s just something that looks great in theory but needs more to convince me.

Re: Xbox Is Trying To 'Undercut And Dominate' The Games Industry, Argues TV Host

MjJmediablogger

Let’s take a look at this shall we? Firstly yes, the acquisition of Activision/Blizzard was massive and the sums involved crazy. They are paying more than Nintendo’s net worth - let that sink in. BUT.. GamePass and Xcloud means that those on tighter budgets can play games day one that they would not ordinarily be able to afford. How is that bad for gamers? It is not bad for gamers. It makes gaming more inclusive. It’s not a cheap hobby by any means but Microsoft are making one that anyone can have access to. Xcloud isn’t perfect. It’s not even that good yet tbh and Xbox gaming on the go isn’t really a thing because without decent wi fi or 5G - in the UK forget it unless you live in one of the big cities - it’s just not good enough.
But at home you can play without a console. Play on your iPad. And there are hundreds of games to go at.
For parents on a budget they can try Xcloud at home and see if the kids really want an Xbox. It’s a great way in for so many people.
As long as all companies do what they do and continue to do it well then I see no problem at all. Nintendo will stick to Switch and ensure that you can only play their games on their systems. It works so why change it? They won’t.
The idea that PlayStation is suddenly in some sort of major trouble is so laughable and wide of the mark it makes me think that some ‘analysts’ have been taking something too strong and should lay off the hard stuff!
Xbox is an eco system and of course they want it on as many systems as possible but it won’t stop people wanting a PlayStation 5. The PS5 will still beat Xbox sales wise this generation and by some margin. And that is not bad for any player. It gives everyone an opportunity to have access to even more games all of the time. Imagine if Sony bring a GamePass style service to us. That would be phenomenal. Imagine if for the cost of 2 controllers and 2 subscriptions you could have access to a crazy amount of games. How on Earth would that be bad? And fans of Nintendo will still enjoy those games and Nintendo will still be absolutely fine.
Analysts need to stop analysing nothing and just accept that gaming has never been better.
