I don’t mind more options. I’m not picking up a PS5 Pro , personally. The problem with this is that for the next two years, Xbox games are going to run best on a PlayStation. It’s just a bad look.
I don’t think they need to make a “12 month” declaration, but I do think they should not announce games so far in advance. They look ridiculous now after announcing Hellblade 2 in 2019 and State of Decay 3, Fable, Forza Motorsport 8, Perfect Dark, and Avowed back in 2020. 3-4 years later and we’ve barely seen any footage of these outside of Forza and Hellblade. I remember when they announced them and there were rumors that a lot of these wouldn’t be out until 2022 or 2023 and everyone thought that was crazy that they would be that far away.
I personally rarely buy any games with game pass. I purchase a couple of PlayStation exclusives every year, though. If I want to buy a third party game, I’ll often pick it up for Xbox with Reward points. There’s just so much on game pass, I have plenty to keep me busy. I haven’t even bought Dead Space, because I know it will be on game pass because of EA play eventually. I DO purchase more dlc, though. Since I play more games, there is typically more dlc I want to pick up.
@GodofCapcom Still not sure about their issues. Fans and critics seem to enjoy them (outside of Halo mp, i guess). PS fanboys are the ones that shower the most hate on Xbox games, but they don’t even play them, so whatever.
@GodofCapcom I’m not a big Halo guy, but I enjoyed the campaign fine. I definitely wouldn’t argue an 87 for the campaign. I don’t play Halo mp, so I can’t speak to that. By definition, none of them are indies, though AA would describe half of them. Hifi Rush is as good and fresh as anything I’ve played on PS5, honestly, and God of War was personal GotY last year. I’m not telling you Xbox is winning the console war right now, but they have lots of really great games (albeit smaller) right now, with some big games on the horizon. And as much as people want to say MS mismanages their studios, every single game released this gen has been a critical success, and they have way more in the pipeline. Of people don’t want to play them because they’re on Xbox, that’s their loss. As far as Halo is concerned, I don’t think people will ever be satisfied with Halo again. The characters are one dimensional, the story has always been pretty generic, and the gameplay isn’t really doing anything that other games aren’t. It has so much baggage with it, I think it’s about done. Master Chief has never even been that interesting.
@GodofCapcom 90, 92, 86, 82, 77, 88, & 86 for one console. 83, 92, 88, 88, 94, 86, 87, & 83 are the metacritic scores for the other. Both consoles are doing great. Sounds like you might be hanging out in the wrong forums. Maybe Xbox isn’t for you.
@GodofCapcom Since Series X dropped, we’ve gotten FS2022, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Pentiment, Grounded, and As Dusk Falls. Since this article, we’ve also gotten Hifi Rush and AoE2 console. On PS5, we’ve gotten Astrobot, Demon’s Souls, Ratchet, Horizon, God of War, Returnal, GT7, and Stray. The output isn’t too bad to be honest. We all want some AAA titles, but I think we all know that is coming soon.
I’d say I agree with them. Hifi Rush was such an absolute joy to play through. It starts a little slow with the tutorial level, but I think the game really becomes hard to put down after the third boss. The characters are absolutely fantastic, and there’s even a couple of great emotional moments near the end. I have a feeling this is a game I’ll play through every year.
@Would_you_kindly “so you've never complained about final fantasy ?”
No. I have a PS5, because console warring is dumb. If there are games on a platform I want to play, instead of complaining about exclusivity, I just buy the platform.
@Would_you_kindly Weird, i don’t remember this coming to or being announced for PlayStation. I think you are remembering something incorrectly, because I’m pretty sure Xbox didn’t take this away from PS.
@Would_you_kindly I’m pretty sure the survey said that it would include online play. Basically, the ad supported tier seems like a clever way to dump gold completely. They definitely need to find a way to be rid of gold. I really don’t know why someone would keep a gold sub and not upgrade the it to Gamepass ultimate for £1.
Pretty sure it is time to sunset Xbox live gold completely. They should do that $2.99 ad supported Gamepass that was in the survey as a substitute for Xbox live gold.
I actually think Phil is a pretty trustworthy dude, overall. He definitely does corpo speak, sometimes, and his job is obviously to Xbox first, but I’d trust him if he gave me his word. The stuff people usually call him out for lying is typically vague, ambiguous statements he makes in interviews when people put him on the spot. People act like he’s a malicious liar.
@Dezzy70 “Making statements like “Xbox top engineers and look incredible.” Should not be said by the developers then.”
It’s Creation engine. It isn’t going to look like something made on the Decima engine. If that’s what you’re expecting, then I’m pretty sure you are going to be sorely disappointed. People play Bethesda games for a variety of reasons, but cutting edge graphics isn’t one of them. It doesn’t mean it can’t look beautiful in 2023 the same way Skyrim looked beautiful in 2011.
@Cyberpsycho “Maybe actually hire competent management and some more staff to get games out.”
Where do they get that management from? Where do they get the talent to expand? They’re already paying good money to their management. Then you say they are poorly ran by management, AND you want them to expand. Maybe these acquisitions are about getting some better studio management and devs. Where should they get this top tier management and talent to expand? All the best devs and management are already tied up with other studios, so this is probably the best way to get top tier talent.
@fbnaulin “Good if it has better graphics. But, I hope devs don't distract from the gameplay loop that makes this game so special.”
Agreed. I absolutely love SoD2, and it isn’t its amazing graphics and bug free gameplay I’m attracted to. Such a fun survival game loop. I definitely welcome the high fidelity stuff, but it isn’t what draws me to the franchise. One of my favorite things in SoD2 is when crap goes south when your conversing with another faction and all of a sudden everyone is shooting each other, and it’s hard to tell what’s going on. You just kind of hope you don’t accidentally blow your companion’s head off with a shotgun. Lol, now I need to go play through another session.
Remember when ray tracing was what was going to set this generation apart? Now, probably >80% of people would choose 60 fps over RTX (I made that number up). Personally, I can barely tell the difference between RT on and off, but 30 to 60 frames is a massive difference. Easy choice for me.
Looking forward to it. Congrats to Sony for getting exclusivity for a bit. All’s fair in love and console wars Bloober aren’t the best devs around, but they are pretty capable, and since they already have the blueprint from the original, I’m hoping they kill it.
The dev’s excuse that Series S is holding it back just doesn’t make sense to me. If they have to dumb it down to work on lower tier hardware, it should be even easier to get it to go run at 60 fps on the higher end stuff. Case in point: PlayStation releases almost all of their blockbusters on PS4 still and therefore are probably easily able to get them to 60 fps on the PS5. If I have to design a game that runs on a 1060 graphics card, then a 4080 should be able to run it without issue. Maybe I’m missing something.
@Fiendish-Beaver “I really hope this isn't a case of Xbox paying for this exclusivity because then it is harder to argue against Sony doing similar”
Why argue? Sony can pay for exclusives if they want, and MS can pay for exclusives if they want. Customers can support if they want by buying the product or if they dislike the practice, don’t buy. Arguing about this stuff when both companies are doing the same thing in slightly different ways seems kind of pointless.
I never buy games while they’re on game pass, that seems kind of pointless. But if it went off of Game pass, I might pick it up if I really enjoyed. I do, however, buy dlc more frequently for game pass games. “Okay, I didn’t have to buy the main game, so I’ll support by getting the dlc.”
I always consider length when playing games. After I finish a marathon game, I always like to play some shorter experiences as palate cleansers before diving into another big game. My favorite length for games is usually around the 15-20 hour mark.
@UltimateOtaku91 “why didn't they offer sony a longer deal than just 3 years?”
Easy, they would rather people be uncertain about CoDs future on PlayStation when contemplating their next console purchase. That’s just good business sense.
Yes, I did. I used it all the time. It was so much better than moving the stupid cursor around the keyboard. I just don’t use chat enough anymore to really miss it, but back when I played a lot of mp games, it was fantastic.
@UltimateOtaku91 “Wow no love for state of decay, did people really not like it?”
I absolutely loved SoD2 and almost picked SoD3, but I’m concerned that I won’t like the new direction they are going. Though I’m not sure since we haven’t seen any gameplay.
I picked Perfect Dark, in the end. I enjoy PD, and I typically love Crystal Dynamics games. I even enjoyed the single player portion of Avengers quite a bit.
That said, State of Decay 2 is one of my favorite and most played games this gen. I popped the game in again after every update and played through a couple of times. I’m hoping I love SoD3 that much.
@MaccaMUFC The Hot Wheels dlc for FH3 is one of my favorite dlc’s of all time for any game. I love that they’re dropping this dlc again for FH5. Guess it isn’t for everybody, though.
I have no problems with game delays. The issue is that they want us to subscribe to a service that isn’t meeting expectations. “Gamepass pays for itself if you play three full price games.” But we’re not getting this on the regular. I’m playing some indies and I played GotG, but all of these games were well below the $60 price point if I paid cash. It just doesn’t look like I’m getting great value this year. Oh well. Maybe they have something up there sleeve for this showcase.
I mean, SE is going to Sony, right? The two companies are already super tight. Sony gets SE exclusives, anyway. Lots of rumors that Sony is about to acquire someone big. And, SE dumping off its western studios. It all seems to point to them getting ready for a Sony acquisition.
@GuyinPA75 “Wish Microsoft would wake up and see how truly terrible 343 is.”
I actually think Halo Infinite has the best gameplay of any Halo, so I actually disagree here. It could be much worse. I think the campaign is already very good. The mp will probably be great, in time. Halo 5 mp is solid, so I don’t see any reason why Infinite won’t get there, eventually. It’s just taking longer than everybody wants.
@lolwhatno I won’t disagree. I’m just saying that all subscription models use this. Gym memberships, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, lawn mowing services, Preferred customer memberships at retail outlets, etc. Some of these businesses wouldn’t exist without auto renewal. If that happens, it happens. Im just saying I enjoy Gamepass and would like to see it stick around.
@Dezzy70 I would agree that it should always be opt in, BUT all the people that never turn off the auto renewal is probably how they keep sub numbers up and prices low. Whenever I see that auto renew is automatically selected, I’m annoyed for a moment, then remember that business model helps helps keep money funneling into a service I love, making it more viable.
I actually wonder how many people sub to gold month to month. You would thing anyone with a yearly sub would get the almost free upgrade to Gamepass. MS obviously tried to force everyone to do this when they raised the price of Gold. You can tell that they WANT to get rid of it.
Very excited about this game. I love SoD2. Every time they buy out a big update, I play through the game again. I’ve played through every map, and even played a couple of maps twice. I didn’t do much mp, though. Maybe I’ll try some more of that in the new game.
I don’t think this guy knows how to read a contract with how many legal issues he has. If he’s owed money, I hope he gets it. If he’s gold digging, I hope he doesn’t.
@Rural-Bandit “ or do what must fans of the industry does and buy both”
Oh, I absolutely agree. I always have all the consoles. But selfishly, if someone is getting acquired, I’m rooting for it to be by MS, because that means more games on GPU.
I mean, at this point, we have an arms race. When the dust settles, I can’t imagine there will be many large studios that haven’t been snatched up. MS really escalated it, so no one can blame Sony for trying to keep up. At this point, you just have to hope that the publishers get picked up by your console of choice.
I mean, isn’t it obvious that Xbox is trying to drive everyone to Gamepass, so the numbers are low enough on gold that they can publicly justify eradicating the gold service completely. I don’t understand why anyone is on gold, when they can do the 1:1 conversion trick.
@UltimateOtaku91 Did you play the new Crash game (It’s about time)? I thought it was really good. I also thought CTR was a fantastic remake, and in all honesty, much preferable to Mario Kart for my own personal tastes.
