Do you want the good news or the bad news first? The good news is that Silent Hill 2 is officially getting a remake, as confirmed in Konami's showcase earlier today. The bad news is that it's a timed console exclusive for PlayStation 5.
Silent Hill 2 Remake, which is being developed by the team behind The Medium (Bloober Team), is also heading to Steam on PC at launch, and you can check out the official teaser trailer for the game in the video above.
Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
When Is Silent Hill 2 Remake Coming To Xbox?
The official word is that Silent Hill 2 Remake won't arrive on Xbox until at least 12 months after it hits PlayStation 5. However, as of right now, no date has been provided for the PS5 launch, so we could be waiting a long time!
It's disappointing news for Silent Hill fans on Xbox, then — we're just going to have to miss out for now.
In other Silent Hill game news today, Annapurna Interactive and No Code Studios announced a brand-new game called Silent Hill: Townfall, while Neobards Entertainment and Ryukishi07 also revealed a new game called Silent Hill F. No platforms have been confirmed as of yet for either of these upcoming Silent Hill titles.

It's fine. Xbox got Scorn first exclusive, Sony had Silent Hill 2. It's not like the exclusive game is Silent Hill Townfall, which is the more interesting game anyway (and more importantly, not another ruddy remake).
It's also on PC too for those who really want to play it and don't have a PS5. 12 months is a blink in gaming anyway.
So... when will Phil make a stink that this timed exclusivity will harm Xbox's brand long-ter- Oh wait, that was Jim Ryan.
Yet another remake so no loss to me.
Now come on Xbox let’s have at least one release date for one of the big 3 three coming by end of June 2023.
Give us something new to look forward to rather than remakes. A Redfall date maybe to start with.
Looks good and definitely day one for me, now they just need to give the same remake treatment to 1 and 3
My only concern is with bloober, their games are average at best and don't do combat well. Hopefully Konami keep a close eye over the project.
Looking forward to it. Congrats to Sony for getting exclusivity for a bit. All’s fair in love and console wars Bloober aren’t the best devs around, but they are pretty capable, and since they already have the blueprint from the original, I’m hoping they kill it.
It looks good, but I'd rather have the first game remade. Doesn't make sense why they would do the 2nd but not the 1st. Odd.
I want to see some gameplay. Blooper does well with atmosphere but combat either lacks or doesn’t exist. I’m glad to see the series is back though. But taking on SH2? Those a BIG shoes to fill.
@Dr_Luigi I just meant more from a horror perspective. Full console exclusives I understand, but the timed ones always seem like a waste of money for everyone who owns more than one console. I think my point is I get annoyed when any timed console exclusive is announced. Xbox and Sony alike. Doubly so when they all come to PC these days at launch anyway.
@pip_muzz I agree with time exclusives being a waste of money, I’m hopeful that after this acquisition Xbox has with Activision is over, it opens the eyes of the regulators and puts the pressure on the console manufacturers to play a little nicer. But that’s probably never going to happen.
It's by Bloober Team, Playstation can keep as a forever exclusive

"Playstation the local of remakes and remades"
@Chaudy no sour grapes. Layers of Fear 1 was very solid and Observer had some very solid moments too. Definitely agree that The Medium was VERY underwhelming however.
I never saw it mentioned that its exclusive for 12 months, it just said PS5 exclusive and that's it.
Excellent news. As we know from Xbox Pr team.
Who we know are always right. Exclusives are good for everyone.
Remember when Rise of the Tomb Raider was a 12 month timed exclusive for Xbox, there was a massive uproar and people/websites saying it's bad for the industry.
Why does Sony never receive this treatment when their doing the exact same thing much more? 2 years later, I'm still waiting for Final Fantasy VII Remake to arrive on Xbox, despite it been a 12 month timed exclusive.
@Solidchief That's what happens when you're the most popular platform for non-Nintendo games. You get a pass because you hold the majority.
@Solidchief playstation do get a lot of hate for their timed exclusives though.....
Plus tomb raider was more notorious as its a bigger franchise than silent hill, plus it was a direct sequel which caused more uproar.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree that making the Tomb Raider sequel a timed exclusive was anti consumer and bullsh*t but I guarantee if Sony were the ones who did it, the media wouldn't have gone mental over it like they did with Microsoft.
@Solidchief definitely, they dominated last gen and pretty much everyone was all over them. I've notice with Microsoft now though they still do timed exclusives but don't go for AAA's anymore. I think the reason behind it was the backlash over tomb raider.
I recently beat SH2 and 3 via BC in Series S. The games still hold extremely well.
@UltimateOtaku91 they deserve it especially after the hypocritical comments about if Xbox has exclusive cod it wouldn't b fair to Sony etc , but let's be honest with a move like this it's handing the judgement to microsoft
I don't care if they pay for exclusives it's business but then to moan about it to the cma it's wrong ,get rid of Jim Ryan before he costs Sony too much business
@UltimateOtaku91 True for the most part with Scorn, High on LIfe and The Medium. The upcoming Stalker 2 is an AAA game but it's only a 3 month exclusive.
@Martsmall we all know the deal is going through anyway, as far as I know its only the UK that's against the deal, so I doubt they can do much on their own in terms of 100% stopping the acquisition.
Sony will lose the parity of call of duty after three more games when their deal ends, then hopefully they get rid of Jim Ryan, spend the money they were using for cod deals on something more meaningful like more acquisitions or expand their current studios.
I'm just worried they will use that freed up money on getting another deal for something like Battlefield or EA sports FC
So another time that Sony pays for specifically keeping third-party games away from Xbox while not caring about PC. And then call Phil Spencer crying about Blizzard Activision.
I'll wait a year, my question is why.are they skipping Silent Hill 1?
@UltimateOtaku91 that's another part that eats me about Sony ,they said to the cma that they couldn't create a hit as big as cod yet they waste Thier money on 12 month exclusives instead of trying to ,it makes zero sense , and another thing while I'm on a rant. Why bloober ? Of all the studies why them lol
So... when does the Activision Blizzard deal go through, again?
@Martsmall I have no idea why they chose bloober, I doubt that was Sony's decision though but Konami's.
In terms of sony creating a hit as big as cod, they definitely have the talent and studios to do it, but it's the IP branding they don't have, they a have no ip's they could use to make a multiplayer shooter like call of duty, and don't say Killzone 😂
But, they could create a game that's just as successful but not a fps shooter, like destiny 3 or the last of us multiplayer game.
Just checked and the total sales of all games in the silent hill franchise is around 9 million, in comparison Resident evil 7 alone has sold 11 million. I don't see this game being a hit as its obviously not as popular as I first thought, Sony have took a big gamble with this one.
@Banjo- Reason why they're remaking Silent Hill 2 is because it's the most popular and highly praised game in the franchise. In reality, the first game is the only one that deserve the remake treatment since it's a PS1 game but in my opinion it still holds up well even after 23 years.
@Martsmall Fact: UltimateOtaku is okay with Sony doing anything, he only complains about Microsoft.
@Banjo- what's your obsession with me, I haven't even said anything bad on this article.... 😑
@UltimateOtaku91 I mean your whole comments history on here and Push Square. And your first comment here was saying you're getting it day one, on PS5, obviously. Not a single complaint about this exclusivity deal because it's Sony. Don't play the innocent again 🤣.
@Banjo- check my comment history on here it's not all playstation, and I don't even troll I just have my opinion, I don't even hate on xbox or anything.
Like earlier today, all I said is that both playstation and xbox pay for deals and still got hated on.
Also in my comment I don't even mention the PS5, I just said I'm getting it day one, what's wrong with that?
And on pushsquare I can say what I want about playstation as its a playstation website for playstation fans.
I notice there's a few of you on this site who absolutely hate anything that's positive towards sony and has been noticed and pointed out by a few different people, such as yesterday on the plague tale review people bringing up playstation such as yourself, I get that sony are hypocrites in terms of the current ABK deal but there's no need to mention them in every article or launch an attack against anyone who doesnt go with your own agenda.
I will continue posting my opinions on this site, don't like it then there an ignore button you can Press, no skin off my back.
Excitedly watched this "transmission" with my son and we both were so utterly deflated and disappointed to see the PS5 exclusive bit. He even got up and left.
That's a bummer to say the least. Wish (for the most part) console exclusives weren't a thing or at least for a franchise as big as SH, it all just stokes the console wars fires.
And I got all the consoles besides a PS5... of course it's exclusive to that. Sad day.
@Solidchief Yep, I was hoping for a remake of the first game.
@Banjo- it’s embarrassing at this point. Just try and ignore mate. He’s the same guy over at PS saying people have pitchforks out within the first few comments when nothings been said, poking the fire, and then is told by a mod to knock it off, even they know what he’s upto. The dudes a joke.
I don’t know why you all don’t ignore UltimateOtaku91. He’s a shameless Playstation fanboy that will bend over backwards to defend them and blame Microsoft for doing something similar in the same breath. Put him on my ignore list months ago and never looked back.
@Fenbops Absolutely, just like sjb"sixpack", they're so obvious but still say they like Xbox on here.
@Banjo- you seem to have ignored the fact I have an xbox, my gamer tag is in my bio if you need to check I'm not lying 😂
Like i said not once have I hated on xbox like you have towards playstation, but I'm the bad guy 🤔 hypocritical the lot of ya.
Please do me a favour and press the ignore 👍
@Banjo- I don’t care about exclusivity either way, all sides do it. I could care even less about another remake. I won’t be buying this on PS5 or Xbox. Not worth thinking about.
@Sakisa Im gonna take that advice, I’m tired of his drivel too.
@UltimateOtaku91 I hate Sony's practices this generation, last generation I had a PS4 (still have it) and I talk only about the games I've played and Sony's dirty practices and colossal hypocrisy, bigger than this planet.
I just made a funny comment here noting the fact that you only complain about Microsoft but never about Sony. A fact that everyone else sees in spite of you just addressing me. I could have said more like you twisting the reality to make Xbox look evil and Sony a victim defending itself. I could have said that you're more devious here and more aggressive towards Microsoft on PS. I didn't want to go that far, I was subtle, but now that you ask me I say all I see.
Again, not just this thread!
@Banjo- I didn't complain about Microsoft though, I said that Microsoft also do deals, how's that complaining? I stated that there's nothing wrong with deals, my point was it works both ways and people should be fine with that, I've also mentioned a few times that Jim should be sacked. But all you ever see is Sony, its like you scan all my comments for the words sony or playstation then play on that.
You know what I'm tired of this, just do me a favor and ignore me and same goes to anyone else who easily gets offended by the words sony/playstation, as I can't be bothered to deal with the back and forth hassle that follows every time I say something about playstation that's not a negative.

@Solidchief most of the games you named are Japanese games that have been synonymous with playstation a Japanese console for years.

@Phantasystar77 They're pretty much destroying their own arguments about why they think the Activision deal needs to be blocked. They are doing everything they can do double down on exclusivity deals while crying about how bad they are for the industry. What a joke.
With all the news released on the SH series today, I’m a bit in a daze. I don’t know where to begin or when I’ll wake up. I thought maybe a game would be announced or another pachinko machine. There were so many announcements, if just one turns out good, I’ll be happy.
@Zochmenos that is hysterical! CoD would never be released then.
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@Phantasystar77 i disagree mate. Silent Hill is a mega old game. Sony have no problem with Xbox having exclusives. The problem is Call of Duty is already a massive, established franchise. Also 70% of COD console sales are on Playstation. Microsoft will make hundreds of millions if the game remains multi platform. If Microsoft made COD exclusive they’d lose tons of money so the only reason they would do this is to hurt Playstation. Can you imagine if Microsoft bought up every dev that isn’t owned by Sony an made their games exclusive? That would be monopolising the industry and isn’t allowed. I do hope they put COD on Game Pass but i think it should remain multi platform.
@Banjo- Just ignore him, he's always on here capping for Sony, and he think it's not obvious. I think most people have him on ignore, because he drags the comment section down with his constant fanboying.
@sjbsixpack you know what, I read your comment yesterday about 75% of his posts involve playstation so I checked and you're right, he's just non stop bashing playstation and then him and the usal others call out people and say we belong on pushsqaure yet he mentions playstation more than anyone. I
But there's a difference everyone is fine with mentioning playstation on this site as long as its hate speech against them, anything positive is not tolerated and will get you ganged up on, it's hypocrisy at its finest.
I've noticed that simply having an xbox isn't good enough for you to be commenting on this site, you also need to not like playstation, otherwise you're not welcome.
@Phantasystar77 read news please...:
"Sure COD makes a lot of cash for Sony and its understandable they would want to keep it" its a closed issue that sony cant let go, just for the hype of the raised price PS5
Dr_Luigi wrote:
They've got quite a few larger paid timed exclusives titles coming up like Stalker 2, High on Life, Warhammer 40K Darktide, etc.
And you mention smaller ones? The list is long though, including some great games that will be on people's GOTY lists. Titles like Immortality, Scorn, Tunic, Death's Door, The Medium, The Gunk, Sable, As Dusk Falls, Twelve Minutes, Shredders, The Artful Escape, Crossfire X, The Last Stop, Lake, Wild at Heart (just to mention a few, there are MANY more) all had Xbox exclusivity for a time. (Some have now ended and are now multiplatform.)
They also have a lot more timed exclusives upcoming like Somerville, Planet of Lana, Last Case of Benedict Fox, Ravenlok, Ereban, etc. a large chunk of their last E3 presentation.
Honestly anyone that thinks this practice is one sided is either unaware or wilfully blinded. ALL the main players are at it. The main difference is that Sony typically pays for slightly higher profile IP, occasionally for longer*, though most are around 12 months. Whereas Microsoft pays for an awful lot of titles but often smaller IP usually for 4-12 months. Strangely media and fans condemn the former but seem to give a pass to the latter. That is two-faced.
(*) The longer bit is complicated because it depends is Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo funding some of these games development? I wouldn't expect Bayonetta 3 to go multiplatform as it was in part funded by Nintendo, likewise Street Fighter V was part funded by Sony, same deal.
@Dr_Luigi so no one is loving halo infinite and forza horizon?
Yeah, Sony. DOUBLE STANDARDS MY DUDES!!!!
Dr_Luigi wrote:
I agree.
But would Bayonetta 2 and 3 have been made or fulfilled the developers true vision without Nintendo's funding, what about Rise of the Tomb Raider? what about FF7 Remake?
As you know I'm not a fan of taking games away from other gamers as a generality, but surely it's better these games were made? It's not just little small developers that need help making games or realising their true vision, plenty of large projects need help too!
I just don't think it's as black and white as many here seem to suggest. Most seem more interested in winning a point for their platform of choice in a toxic console war over fairly appraising all sides complicity in making games exclusive.
@ThatFilbo Of course it is, thanks!
As long as publishers want these deals, Format holders will take them. For the publishers it is kind of 'spread betting', and they can mitigate the risks of the product development by guaranteeing at least a certain return from the deal money. for the format holder, its a chance to crow 'only on' for at least the time of the deal. I don't think these deals will ever go away, and all sides do it.
I don't have an issue with it personally, but I'm multi plat so I'm in a fortunate position of being able to play regardless, and I'm also an old man, so 12 month wait goes with a click of the fingers
I'm a little more concerned with taking mutiplat games away from a platform for ever, but I don't want to stir up that hornets nest.
Whilst I have some concerns over Bloobers past output, their art style and ability to conjure atmosphere seems perfect for this games presentation. As long as they stick to the game they are remaking, I'm hopeful this could be a good game.
Its a pity we wont see it on Xbox for 12 months, but going on many modern releases, the 12 month version will actually work properly, have all the bug fixes and probably include some extra content, so there is at least a pay off for the wait! If schedules are maintained, we are not gonna be short on 1st party titles soon, so a slip for a few remakes won't hurt too bad?
Mods on this site are much more tolerable when it comes to inflammatory/off topic comments than Push Square.
#letthemfight
@Dr_Luigi All good points. You and I are actually quite close in mindset.
I'm also tiring of Sony's premium stance on everything, though I do understand why they are doing it. It seems to be a direct response to Xbox, and specifically Game Pass, which has created a race to the bottom in terms of pricing and a new business model that they don't want to, or don't think they can, compete with. After all Microsoft is now, for the first time, REALLY backing it with their almost limitless coffers.
It's in some ways a sensible business strategy, even if unpopular one with many. To slowly differentiate themselves from the competition, as Nintendo has done, rather than competing directly... which in a few years they may not be able to do and it could be too late. Only time will tell if it's successful. Honestly gaming needs Sony, or someone like it, to keep MS more honest, and vice-versa.
Meanwhile Microsoft are also bullying everyone with their aggressive acquisition strategies which I fear will lead to more and more closed platforms and exclusives in future, which is ultimately not good for this hobby we love. Less games for the vast majority of gamers that only have one system. At the same time they have a holier-than-thou, butter wouldn't melt attitude as though they are the great oppressed. Give it a rest, it's two faced and really grates.
Yes I agree Xbox is currently the better deal for some, Game Pass alone ensures that, but I don't think we should be so dismissive of the old business model, that has been running since gaming's inception yet either. Personally i'm glad they have different strategies for now. I also have a long enough memory for when the tables were turned and Microsoft was the 'bad guy', these things come in waves, i'm sure they will about turn in time. Meanwhile I'll continue to support all platforms to keep playing good games wherever they are.
@themightyant I agree with @Dr_Luigi. Rise of the Tomb Raider happened a very long time ago and the other Xbox exclusives you mentioned are small and short-lived. Remember that Sony is paying right now to keep third-party games away from Xbox and Game Pass specifically, while being the biggest hypocrite in the industry, while also calling Microsoft (confirmed by Phil) to pester him about Activision Blizzard, while bashing Microsoft publicly and in written complaints and trying to ruin the acquisition with hypocritical conjectures. To compare that to partly fund small projects doesn't make any sense to me. Also, Street Fighter V was not partly funded by Sony, Sony paid for marketing and tournaments, confirmed by Capcom. Sony pays Square Enix a fortune to keep their biggest titles away from Xbox for as long as possible. Sony invests more money in keeping big games away from Xbox than in their own games because their will is to be the default console again, like PS4 was, but they know it's impossible so they announced than over half of their future games will come to PC as well, but still try to hurt the Xbox market.
Not as many people complain about Nintendo's exclusives because normally Nintendo pays for development when they get a third/second-party exclusive. Microsoft supports small games financially. No way those two things can be compared to Sony's dirty strategies. Of course, Microsoft is acquiring big studios but who on this thread doesn't believe that Sony would buy Activision Blizzard if they could? And who on this thread think that Sony would publish Activision Blizzard games for Xbox? So, who's worse, Sony or Microsoft?
Side note: As Dr_Luigi said, Sony's customer service is the worst of the three, at least in my experience during the last generation.
@Sakai @Skedaddle Thanks. They're trying to ruin every thread with their Sony fanboyism. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having all consoles like many do but they are a different thing, and when they manipulate, play the victim and blame the others, I don't know how to define them... Nothing good, that's for sure.

@themightyant
The main difference is that Sony typically pays for slightly higher profile IP, occasionally for longer, though most are around 12 months*
To call FF7 Remake and the giant elefant in the room FF16 slightly higher profile is just as wilfully ignorant and does nothing except skewing the whole argument to one side.
Strangely media and fans condemn the former but seem to give a pass to the latter. That is two-faced
Then Why is such a deafening silence from the gaming media regarding FF16 or the two year exclusivity period for Forespoken, if as you say there is a two faced issue. I call utter bull sh*t on that one.
@Sol4ris lets be 100% clear. At no point did I say what Sony do is right, I don't like 3rd party exclusives, THAT is my stance. I'm not arguing for Sony. My point is that many of you seem to castigate Sony with one hand for their practices while giving Microsoft free reign for doing... the same thing. If you HONESTLY can't see the irony in that then you're more blind than I thought. Whether it's higher profile or not is in the weeds. Yes I marginally prefer Microsoft's exclusive's policy to Sony's but they are BOTH awful.
Banjo- wrote:
Err... what do you think funding is? If they don't have to spend money on marketing and tournaments that is a HUGE amount of budget saved on a game that they can allocate elsewhere. Whether it is directly going in devs pockets, or being spent in other areas that all constitute part of a games budget, makes absolutely no difference.
@Sol4ris That was spot on.
@themightyant I have tried many times but I will never understand your "logic". Also, you replied to the least important part of my comment and still your reply has little to do with what you and I said because, when you were trying to justify Sony's exclusivity deals, you were suggesting that Street Fighter V was one of those projects that need a big publisher or investor behind, like others you mentioned such as Bayonetta 3, and it's not, Street Fighter V was a game developed and published by Capcom, co-developed by Dimps. Again, that was the least important part, it was just for your information after having read this:
themightyant wrote:
Heck, you even said "funding some of these games development", then I explain that Sony didn't fund the development but paid for part of the marketing and tournaments costs and you ask me if I know what funding is? 😂 If anything, Sony's deal was not worth it for Capcom and SFVI will be multiplatform. This is what I mean the times that I've said that I don't recognise the neutrality and logic you pretend.
@themightyant
If you HONESTLY can't see the irony in that then you're more blind than I thought
Wow jeepers, that is one rich way of getting to town with it, there is also a case of people living in glass houses and all that...You act like I was cheering on Microsoft.
Whether it's higher profile or not is in the weeds
I think a great deal of people who only game on Xbox would strongly disagree with that simplistic view. Just like the PlayStation only owners would/are about COD.
I really wouldn't mind playing this. Guess I will play it on PC because I will forget it is coming to Xbox and then when it does I won't want to play it because Half Life 3 will be out by then.
@Banjo- Me too, I am waiting the whole 12 months. No rush to play this remake (tbh, I am more excited for the upcoming Fatal Frame game, as I haven't played that entry)
@HarmanSmith Same here, I'm much more excited about Project Zero/Fatal Frame. The Silent Hill games will be multiplatform eventually. I don't want to reward Sony so from now on, I won't buy any third-party game for any PS console. There's so much to play anyway.
So, basically, We wait one year and we get to play an optimized version of the game with patches, DLC, and hopefully on gamepass. Or we can buy a $70 incomplete game on sony. (Because, lets face it, since at least 2 generations ago, playing a game on day one is a bit of a letdown)
Silent Hill 1 was my favorite. I'm more upset they skipped that one and started with SH2.
A timed exclusive for a year! And people on here are happy for that.. are you all Sony fans trolling or something? Just makes Sony look even more hypocritical then they already do and that is some bloody achievement!
@Banjo- So to be clear you don't think that marketing the product is part of a games budget?
themightyant wrote:
You didn't say budget, you said development. My last reply is crystal-clear so I don't know what else to explain. Your comments tend to divert attention from the main point but even then, you still miss the shot sometimes.
@Banjo- Talking of diverting attention... The initial point was that Sony DID heavily invest in SFV therefore you wouldn't expect it to be cross platform, just as Bayonetta 3 isn't. That WAS the main point and still stands.
The semantics of whether the games marketing is or isn't included in the games development budget is the distraction. Fact is Sony paid a lot that Capcom didn't have to whether that was marketing or dev costs doesn't really matter in Capcom's financials.
Yes I miss the mark sometimes, we all do, and I've been a little forceful in my wording here, I apologise to you and @Sol4ris for that, it should be good vibes only. My bad.
Doesn't change the original point that all companies are up pay for exclusives whether that is SFV, Stalker 2, Bayonetta 3, FF16, High on Life, Warhammer 40K Darktide etc. I just don't understand how you can give a pass to one and castigate the others. Tar all with the same brush.
Yet another example of one-sided Sony. Exclusive on PS 🙄
This entire thread needs a therapist lol
We already have dead space and re4 next year coming out, i'll be fine waiting the year.
@Reptilio And the Project Zero/Fatal Frame remake! Three horror remakes of legendary franchises 😁.
The original Silent Hill 2 was a PS2 time exclusive. When it finally came to Xbox, it came with some extras with “Born From a Wish.” I’m wondering if that will be included with the remake?
