I'll be playing and trying to improve on Street Fighter this weekend - and for the rest of this year god willing.
I'm working my way through Hi Fi Rush. I usually do one stage and put it down. The stages are long and fairly intense. Loving the game and it's aesthetic.
I'm traveling today so I'll have my Switch in tow. Tonight I'm hoping to get further in Zelda: The Minish Cap.
Seems about right. I put roughly 600 hours into MH: Rise on the Switch. So...I kinda like it. I also will not start over without cross play so I won't be booting it up on the X unfortunately. But it is good.
I love Hi Fi Rush and Street Fighter. SF is my current Xbox goty. But it probably isn't as good as the Switch's Bayonetta Origins for me. That's the best game I've played in 2023. I don't see it being topped by the slate of games releasing.
@Ralizah I don't think the Switch is capable of the detail and animations in this game. I'm not a programmer so I don't know...but it doesn't seem like it.
Had it been able to - yes it would have been a huge hit on the Switch.
@Cherip-the-Ripper I think it was the Soldier. He beat me down multiple times before I realized I couldn't just swing away like an idiot like you do in 99.8% of tutorials across all games. Then I beat him The Scion (at the tree) insta gibbed me. Which I think was the point. I did scream aloud though when he jumped on my face.
@Grumblevolcano that isn't possible. BotW had never been heard of until that show. We all know exactly what Starfield is, it's street date and what it will look like.
MS will never get the type of reactions Nintendo fans can give on true surprises. There isn't a character or series people care about at that level yet. Once Master Chief but it's been a minute.
@InterceptorAlpha right there with you. I have Elden Ring, Persona 5, Xenoblade 1 all queued up but I am avoiding them for the same reason as you. And asking myself if I have a problem by buying more than I can ever hope to play. Like...what global disaster am I preparing for? And won't food and shelter and the lack of electricity and possible werewolves be more important?
@Spaceman-Spiff No it isn't. GTA basically popularized open world games. If you don't like them - I wouldn't expect one to enjoy the game that defines the genre.
@Rmg0731 it is called promotion leading to release. Every media company does it. Watch tv this week it is round the clock coverage of how awesome Tom Cruise is. He has a movie releasing this weekend. The entire movie industry is hoping (again) that Cruise can save them. The Xbox brand is counting on Starfield to save it.
Seriously if Starfield flops - the xbox could be done. Like for good. Microsoft doesn't need it at all. It's probably more work than it is worth.
@ZuneTattooGuy It's been that way since Street Fighter 2 and the original Mortal Kombat. Kombat is about violence and gimmicks. SF is about super tight gameplay.
@HonestHick SF6 is kind of revolutionary on the fighter scene front. I think if people knew how much more accessible it is than the ones before it they'd jump in.
The single player isn't perfect, but imho it is better than any single player experience in a fighter before it. It's funny sometimes and it has an actual story outside of "must beat world threat from magical mean dude" that every other one has had.
Love the game. The only reason I'm here and not solely the Switch is because of SF6. I would have gotten the PS5 but their awful showcase talked me out of it.
@HonestHick all the things you said are right. Personally I separate remakes into another category. Zelda will win all of the awards - unless Starfield delivers what it promises; then it is a race. Honorable mentions will go to Street Fighter and Final Fantasy. Iconic brands.
Mine so far is Bayonetta Origins. Right behind it are Street Fighter and Hi Fi Rush. The latter is such an amazing game that really hasn't been done before in that kind of fidelity. It really deserves so much more attention. Bayo Origins is better than Bayo 3 imho. Bayo 3 was amazing.
@HonestHick I'm kinda going off of on Nintendo Life's article over the weekend "what is your goty at the halfway point"? Besides the usual TotKs most people had remakes. Not even good remakes - just straight ports of old games. I cannot imagine rewarding a developer with a trophy for putting an old game in a box on the backs of other coders.
New good games come out every day people should really open their minds to new experiences. But yeh...RDR is also cool af.
@HonestHick game development doesn't need a $200M budget to succeed. I'd argue most companies shouldn't do that. Rockstar, Microsoft, Activision, EA, 2K and Sony. Nintendo, but they simply don't. Tencent maybe if you count them. I don't, Those are about the only ahandful that can shoulder that risk.
The biggest hits have relatively small budgets. Minecraft cost $146.83 to create. Stardew Valley half that. Not everyone wants pixel. But you don't need overblown Final Fantasy fanfare to bomb properly.
Remakes on hard to find games are fun sometimes. Like Ghost Trick. But it is becoming a constant flow. People are voting remakes as GOTY. People are getting as lazy as the developers are. Guess who gets rewarded? Not us.
I'm more excited about Exoprimal than any other game this year outside of Mario Wonder. Starfield looks like it might be a good game; but Capcom has earned trust in putting fun first.
@UltimateOtaku91 I bought a lot of those before the eshop closed down. I prefer them in physical but I knew I'd never find Yo Kai Watch for a decent price - if at all. It's a cool little game. The only problem with it is the game has these odd ramp ups in difficulty and stress gameplay all of a sudden that takes away from the experience imo. I don't mind hard gameplay but it just feels like it's out of nowhere.
@LordFunkalot it 100% will go up again within a year. Then we will go through the entire "I'M SUPER RICH WHAT IS ANOTHER 3 DOLLARS TO ME THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT I LOVE MICROSOFT" song and dance again.
Get people addicted or feeling fomo- start raising prices. That is the subscription model across all media.
@UltimateOtaku91 I've noticed here in the States that prices are finally beginning to come back to the earth's atmosphere on 3DS games. AND, most importantly, hard to find titles are finding their way back to retro games retail places I frequent. There is hope! I thought it would happen. FOMO was crazy and people spent more than they should. Now they are broke and need to sell!
I started my first games in Battlefield 2024. I had a really good time slaughtering strangers over a few barrels of oil into the wee hours last night. It's been a minute since I've played a BF.
On the switch I'm going hard into Kirby Tilt and Tumble on their live service. I'll be away from home so I may get into an old Sega rpg like Shining Force or one of the new ones.
@somnambulance my two daughters are playing Dordogne together and are really enjoying the simple gameplay. I am enjoying watching bits of it now and then because the watercolor art and French atmosphere is so well done.
every time another boring remake is made god rips out the wings of an angel and casts it to hell where demons suck out the angel blood in order to sustain their accursed non-lives.
@Moonglow I know that a conservative half a billion per year via the $2 price increase was set to offset the acquisition cost of Blizzard. The cash reserves are important to MS and they will build them back up any way they can. Core business, price increases, etc.
It doesn't hurt me at all. I just don't hand out money to corporations if I can help it. I get some people are perfectly comfortable in dropping trou and letting whomever penetrate their wallets - but it has never been my personal modus operandi.
Speaking of system sellers - I bought this X solely because of Street Fighter. I would not have bought either Sony or an Xbox had it not been for Capcom. The Switch will remain the superior choice this entire gen I imagine. I don't see how it can't.
And I bought a fancypants tv. So I wanted to see it shine. Capcom + Samsung are system sellers.
As a new user I'm catching up with the big hitters. I'm enjoying Vampire Survivors, HiFi Rush greatly and am about to hop in Battlefield for the first time in years. No time for the Junies. I'd play Story of Seasons - but I still have my original on the GBA SP -which still looks far superior to this new version. If I didn't I'd be playing that.
Here is the only fact I know: whoever wins this case - fanatics from both sides will gloat to the other one as if they have won some grand prize - even though they take part in nothing of consequential value. Even though Sony, Microsoft and Activision only value their miserable lives in the number of units they can sell to you as an faceless organism.
@YonkoBuggyTheClown no matter what kind of rpgs you like if your system has exclusive rights to Shin Megami Tensei V and Xenoblade - among many, many others - no one can definitively say Sony and Xbox are the rpg consoles.
If Starfield releases as promised I'd probably put xbox shared with nintendo at the top spot and Sony not in the conversation. No one is going to be speaking of FF16 in a positive light in a year; including Square Enix. Baldur's Gate 3 might be good. The series S really sucks.
I think Sea of Thieves is one of the best games of the past decade. Frankly I don't care what RARE makes next - I just want them to make something (that isn't avatars).
@RedShirtRod that is a real thing.I have a samsung and sony tv that will absolutely not allow google play unless I get a roku. Then the goddamned roku won't play this or that.
I bought 30 or so movies on google thinking everyone would play nice - wrong.
Smart tvs are devil incarnate. there isn't a thing intelligent about them besides harnessing data on the consumer.
@Ep_13 This lawsuit has been effective into making Ryan look like the bad guy in gaming. I think Sony is doing more damage to their brand by opening their mouths in this FTC hearing than if they had just stepped aside and let it go through.

I hope it sells at least 8 million more and Street Fighter never dies.

@Grumblevolcano my only point is that there is nothing Starfield could ever do that would ever compare to that reveal ever; in any scenario.

To be honest this is a bad time to be releasing a lot of RPGs. It is a really crowded field right now.

Re: Microsoft Is Expecting Two New PS5 Models In The 'Near Future'
A massive tactical error imo. They only recently got their supply issues on track. To add two new SKUs will both piss off people and confuse others.
But they are desperate so I get it too. Every chief at the playstation division should be fired on the spot. I would have done it 6 months ago.
I know people on NL, PX and PS get super duper sad when people 8 get fired but sometimes it is necessary to move on. I love it.
