Re: Unity Responds To Major Concerns About New 'Runtime Fees' And Xbox Game Pass Titles

@Kevw2006 "Usually when a company suffers an increase in costs the increase usually ends up getting passed on to the consumer. Whether it's increased prices, less games available through subs or just lower quality games, one way or another it's the consumer that always ends up taking the hit.'

That is a falsehood created by companies fearful of consumers who have a limit to what they will spend. If Coke tells you they are raising prices to $3 a can because of inflation the consumer will either 1) drink less coke or 2) stop drinking coke.

Same with Cult of the Lamb - which no one needs an indie game like an inelastic product like gas. If they say sorry folks we have to raise our prices by $10 because of Unity then the consumer simply says "nope" and moves on.

It is an economic principle call 'Willingness to Pay' and it applies to video games 100%.

as far as quality - maybe. Or it simply separates the wheat from the chaff. I don't mind good games rising to the top and getting rid of the 100s of terrible, 'why did you make this abomination' games out there. Developers will always want money and they will create to get that money.

Re: Unity Responds To Major Concerns About New 'Runtime Fees' And Xbox Game Pass Titles

It is funny - when a company raises prices on the consumer, and people complain, half the forum erupts in "F you entitled gamers". When it happens to a developer they put out a tweet and suddenly the same forumers have their pitchforks out. Why?

I don't give two sh**s about this story. This is between the developers and Unity. I expect unity wants to get paid too and I know developers used Unity because it was cheap. let them fight it out instead of being dragged into their accounting squabbles. The developers are trying to use gamers.

Re: Deals: Over 800 Xbox Games Are On Sale This Week (September 12-19)

Cashews

@RentedPanda lol seriously? I just bought it. You are welcome everyone.

You should get it by the by - it is absolutely fantastic. This is the cleanest version of the game it runs better than any I've played before it - which is all of them.

No joke - I bought the xbox because of two games - mainly SF6 but also katamari. I was going to get it on Switch but the performance was so much better on the PS5/XBX I decided to get it here - and it influenced my decision to get the console.

Re: Xbox Game Pass: All Games Coming Soon In September 2023

Cashews

@BaldBelper78 do what I did - don't buy a Playstation or Xbox for it's first 3 years after release and then the library is completely overwhelming. Catch up on all the games while people complain about hardware failures and no new next gen games.

Seriously, I'll probably do this every future gen (except Nintendo) from here on out.

Re: 'Xbox Mastercard' Launches This Month, A New Credit Card From Microsoft & Barclays

Cashews

@Maddie47 credit cards, but more specifically credit, are for super successful, intelligent people as well.

here is a simple life hack: if you have the ability to use other people's capital as a means to an end you are going to win the game. here is something all suckers do not understand. People with real money NEVER use their own money to finance their projects.

Access to capital is the key to accumulating wealth. Just holding on to your ridiculous stash will ensure you are someone else's slave forever - and your children will be slaves too.

Now if you are using credit cards to build debt and buy game consoles and japanese weeaboo toys - you will always lose.

Re: Xbox Apparently 'Wants' To Overhaul Achievements, Someday

Cashews

@Kaloudz I kind of like your idea and the % of players getting the achievement. It is kind of fun when you unlock something that <1% of people have. Especially on a game that isn't new.

That said, one of the reason i like Nintendo is they avoid this general nonsense.

Re: Poll: Based On What You've Played So Far, What Score Would You Give Starfield?

Cashews

@Spider-Kev wrong again kev. if you have ever heard or seen a cat in a poopbox - they move it all around until it is just right. My catr is so meticulous (it's a Bengal) it only pees on one side and poops on the other.

And it is up to me if they walk around in a urine box! Not the cats! If the person doesn't regularly clean it the cat can do nothing but get in it. That isn't the cats fault it is the fault of the lazy, disgusting, good-for-nothing human. In the wild no cat is walking around in it's own s***.

I started reading that Sterling thing and getting a bit worked up - then I realized he isn't worth the time nor the clicks. He is a hack and the sooner he drifts off into the ether of obscura the better.

It did get me thinking though - I wouldn't be surprised if more developers start blocking out all reviewers. It really isn't worth their time. For Larian it has been a really big boon but I'd argue it is a detriment for most games - outside of the one ad they get on the print.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 9-10)

Cashews

I've been all over the map with games so I am trying to pick a few and stick with them to the end. XSX it is Sea of Stars and wrapping up the battle pass on Exoprimal (still enjoying greatly).
For the Switch I've been playing Everybody Loves Golf in handheld mode.

I also started livestreaming over the Xbox because of how easy they made it. I'm not trying to be famous just playing around. It's fun so far. They did a great job with the ease of use for a super amateur.

Re: Xbox Is Returning To Tokyo Game Show With A 'Digital Broadcast' Later This Month

Cashews

@cragis0001 they have a relationship and Level 5 is very hungry for success. Their next group of games will make or break them in the west I think. MS would be a good partner.to those goals.

The 360 had lots of family games. The PS5 and XSX are total garbage concerning this. It is a huge gap and MS should try again with more purpose and better 3rd party partners. From Japan. That's what they do best.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

Cashews

@Fenbops the pc crowd doesn't seem to care too much - they know what they have is better - it is impossible to argue with them because they are right. and it can run spreadsheets. so the anger isn't there. they are mostly in it for the jokes. but yeah, $4000 for something that will be middling in 4 years. not for everyone.

the only time they are annoying is when they loudly justify stealing from nintendo because nintendo has the audacity to protect their IPs from theft.

Pompous yes but not nearly as angry at everything.

For xbones you are just happy to get things. sometimes being in last is comoforting.

Re: Xbox Is Returning To Tokyo Game Show With A 'Digital Broadcast' Later This Month

Microsoft funds a brand new epic 7 stage Cave shooter and an all new console exclusive Katamari shadow drops. Nintendo announces a new partnership with Microsoft with Master Chief, Luigi and Marcus Fenix in an all new CRPG.

@cragis0001 I hope you are right about Level 5. I'd love for them to get all the support from asll of the places. MS should help them with a Yo kai Watch that could overcome Pokemon's latest missteps.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

@Realist I can't think of an instance where xbones or nintendo fans tried to dox an employee of sony because they play a rival's video game for one day.

Not to say they haven't. There are life-losers everywhere. PS only aficionados just appear to be an especially angry, half-witted bunch this go-around.

it is great fun!

Re: What Happened To September 2023's Big Microsoft Rewards Punch Card?

Cashews

@themightyant to be honest I've been out of the console game until recently. I am sure 2020-2022 was bad IF, and only if, you didn't own a Switch. Switch owners saw maybe the greatest three year run ever.

I'm just going off Sony's last showcase and what they have releasing after Spidey drops. There really isn't much to be excited over after October. relatively speaking.

and yes I was being melodramatic

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

Cashews

@Titntin gosh - to be honest I'd be nervous if it took longer than a few minutes of not playing I was still feeling the effects of a game. Not that you should be nervous - I just do not feel that way at all. hope it gets sorted - but if it doesn't - no game, except Katamari Damacy, is worth having vertigo over. Starfield included.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

@InheritNegative is it though? The biggest console wars I can think of was the 360/PS3/Wii era. People were vitriolic - and I happily took part. It was great fun. I was younger and more stupid (I'm still stupid). A game within a game. Console wars mean people are invested and the companies are doing something RIGHT. If no one cares then some system simply doesn't have anything. That was last gen - it was the PS4 or bust.

Now with the Switch's dominance, finally good sales with the PS5 and good games hitting the Xbox - it's a real war. Pick up a weapon and enjoy it I say!

@Fiendish-Beaver they also have little pressure pointed patches you put behind your ear for sea sickness.

I really do think it is a mind over matter trick though. I've been on the sea since I was little - gotten queasy a few times and just center myself, then steel myself and breathe in through the nose and keep my eyes on the horizon. It works.

My wife gets car sick at times. I roll down the window and tell her to look at the horizon and it goes away. She hates that i can solve it but it goes away.

Point being it truly is in the head - which means it can be controlled.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

Cashews

@Titntin I kind of think the only option now is trusted youtubers - so you can see parts of the game for yourself while they "review" it. See a normal person just talking about the game and why they think this or that. but then you run the risk of spoiling it.

If reviews are important to you I can't think of another way honestly.

Personally I judge a whether or not to get a game based on buzz AFTER a game is released. For instance, Elden Ring got such overwhelmingly positive buzz I felt real fomo. Even Hogwart's - not for me but my kids who are Potter fans.

That is the only way I know how to do it properly.

I hope you find a way to play the game my man.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

@S-Bacc back when Oblivion came out a big complaint were the loading screens when you entered and left a building. It is a real complaint but it has been a part of Bethesda for as long as they've been around.

For me, I accepted their jank because they make great, immersive games.

Re: Oh Look, Starfield Is Getting Review Bombed On Metacritic

Cashews

There is no doubt that of the game systems - pc, nintendo, ms and sony - sony fans are the absolute worst and it isn't a contest.

I don't mind this speeding up the demise of game reviews though to be honest. They are increasingly pointless every day and it wouldn't matter if AI wrote them. People aren't even reading them they are treating them like a horse race.

Slap a fake, random number on the game, let people "engage" by fighting on the internet and be done with it.

Re: What Happened To September 2023's Big Microsoft Rewards Punch Card?

Cashews

At least MS is doing a slow rollout of price increases - unlike Sony who just randomly slapped on a 30% hike under the worst slate of games in gaming history.

I remember when I first bought my Switch in 2019 they gave a out a free year of their online service. AN ENTIRE YEAR.

Give away the razor to sell the blades.

@OldGamer999 I've read great things about LG. I've owned a higher end Bravia (at the time) that I both liked a great deal and other people have complemented when they watch it. It is still the main family tv and looks great.

I bought the samsung with house money. I got off a delta flight a year or so ago and they gave me 1000s of real life dollars if we took a later flight. So it was essentially free. with as much time I've spent on this crap finding a buyer, taking the hard to move thing down from the wall and then buying and installing another honestly isn't worth the time.

I looked up what tv was the latest and greatest and got hoodwinked by those same reviews you posted. i have no doubt they were likely paid for by samsung because this tv sucks and most real life reviews i read hate the thing.

It IS worth my time to warn others. Avoid my friends....AVOID.

Re: Review: Starfield - Bethesda Serves Up Its Best RPG Yet In A Messy, Exciting And Emotional Space Odyssey

@themightyant the UI is the worst thing I've ever experienced. The 'smart' tv aspects are a complete s***show. It offers the user nothing. It offers samsung a window into your private life. I've complained about the xbox UI. It is nothing as bad as the samsung. the picture is okay. I don't believe it is as good as Sony's. I have spent hours and hours (not kidding) watching videos on this thing just to make the picture look as good as my 9 year old regular HD sony bravia.

For reference I spent the first 30 minutes of my starfield experience just fiddling with the picture to get it right. I've never done that with another tv before.

and don't get me started about the remote. good god what a pos.

i had to replace the damn thing once (in under a month of owning it) after the circuit board fried - without a surge!

anyway, don't buyn it. You can find 100s of real user posts hating on this thing. It is terrible. Worst tv I've ever owned.

I'm stuck with it though. I hate it.
