Remember the good old days of Halo 3 LAN parties on Xbox 360? Well, these parties do still exist if you look hard enough, as evidenced by a new photo that's been getting a ton of attention on Reddit over the past few days.
The host of this particular party explained that he owned three Xbox 360 consoles that weren't being put to use, so he arranged to get a group of people together. It apparently took him around 20 to 30 hours to get everything set up in preparation for the event, receiving invaluable help from his local video game store (Retro World) in the process.
"I legitimately sunk about 20 to 30 hours into troubleshooting issues and trying to get all of this to work well together. I didn't remember how it was all supposed to work and finding things online about it were few and far between. I've got it pretty dialed in now though "
He now says the plan is for these Halo 3 LAN parties to become a yearly thing. Here's how he reacted to the massive amount of attention he received on Reddit earlier this week:
"Wow. This got bigger than I thought it would. Thank you all so much. It was such a good time. I would like to thank my local video game shop for all their help getting this set up. Please go check them out."
"It was everything I'd hoped it would be."
It's very rare that we hear of Halo LAN parties these days, but they're clearly still out there! In fact, a quick browse of YouTube reveals that there have been a few for Halo 2 and Halo 3 over the past couple of years, which is great to see.
Hopefully a few more people might get inspired by this story to create their own Halo LAN parties, as they're clearly still great fun - even in 2023! We'll have to look around the office and see how many consoles and Halo discs we have...
