We've had our eyes locked onto Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown pretty much since it was initially announced, and April's first look at proper in-game screenshots had us excited that things were progressing nicely for a 2023 launch. However, a new publisher document shows that the game has been pushed into 2024.
Nacon's latest financial update has provided a roadmap for some of its upcoming titles, including Robocop: Rogue City, Gangs of Sherwood and of course, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. TDU is now listed under the early 2024 section, which includes the months of January through March of next year.
Prior to this fiscal update, public knowledge of a Solar Crown release date was limited to a broad 2023 release window, provided when the team delayed the game out of 2022 and cancelled the last generation versions of the title.
This is a bit of a bummer, but to be honest, we'd rather KT Racing get the time it needs to effectively re-launch Test Drive for modern audiences. The last game in the series hit Xbox 360 way back in 2011, and we're going to have to wait a little longer than expected to go hands on with the next one!
Are you hyped for a new TDU game? Let us know if this will be one of your 2024 pickups down below.

Real shame - I'm looking forward to this..
While disappointing, it will give me a chance to finish my Forza Horizon backwards binge. Started with 4, then 5, then 4 again. Currently on 3 (loving it, wasn't a fan of 5) and got FH2 in the mail 😁 I'll will be keeping my eye on this one, but it will be tough to top FH.
@gollumb82 Lol, welcome to the journey!
I played them all again last year starting with the original forza horizon! Its surprisingly good. I hope you enjoy no 2, I really liked the setting and thought the urban areas looked fantastic...
I still feel no 4 is probably the best of this series so far, but I've got time for them all
@Titntin same here but I want the game to be good. Thankfully 2023 has a lot of great games.
@Titntin
Haha, thanks! Yeah, I absolutely agree about no 4 being the best one. It was also my first one, so that could be a factor. I'm loving no 3 right now due to the amazing setting and the premise that is different from FH4 and 5. I got FH2 for the setting alone hah. I do wonder where Horizon goes from here and the series could definitely use a shake up.
@Kaloudz
You could be onto something here. I actually really liked Grid Legends career mode and something similar but more Forza would be great if done right.
@Kaloudz
It is and it's also on Game Pass. It's certainly better than NFS, but not nearly the masterpiece the original Grid (2008) was. Take Grid Legends career mode, mash it with WRC 8-10 team management mechanics and call it Forza lol
I was hoping to grab this game to hopefully rescue me from FH4/FH5. It’s pretty much my most played Xbox series over anything else.
The Crew Motorfest will keep you going until Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown releases early next year. It is made by some of the original Test Drive Unlimited team, and it's set in the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu where Test Drive Unlimited was based originally. People who have been lucky enough to get to play test the game have said it is awesome and better than Forza Horizon. It gets released in September 14. https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/the-crew/motorfest
sadly, I already suspected this possible delay since the game was announced for this year, but the E3 season passed (well, its individual equivalents, XD) and no sign of this game...
I know that delays help when it is necessary to improve and polish a game, but in this case, given how; How could I say it...?; that the companies behind the development of this 3 version are not as good as Eden games was when it developed the first 2 versions of Test Drive Unlimited; i'm worried about something...
I hope I'm wrong
