Re: Once Again, Call Of Duty: Vanguard Will Have Exclusive Benefits On PlayStation

JetmanUK

Expected really as Sony still has a deal with Activision, which to be fair MS had in the past, however the deal with Sony seems more egregious as it's not just a month delay to maps, it seems to be exclusive content or content locked off from Xbox customers for up to a year.
Very scummy deal.

Will MS try to get a deal with Activision after Sony's has expired? I suspect not, they don't that many deals with third parties these days.

Re: Far Cry 6 Only Installs 700MB From The Disc On Xbox Series X

JetmanUK

I went all digital around 2015 so this doesn't effect me.

It does kinda baffle me that this is even news, for years now a disc has just been a physical key for a digital game.
I would suggest that 100% of XBOX One game discs out in the wild do not contain the final game, they all have updates, some of which are actually most of the game itself.

We are not in the cartridge days where you can pop the game in 20 years down the line and you play the finished article, those days are gone, many many years ago now.

Physical copies are for the collector, not for the preservationist.

EDIT:
I understand that people with poor internet may want to buy a physical copy, but to be honest poor internet is gonna catch you out at some point, even if the game is on the disc, updates are often huge these days and games never release in a final state.
It's just the way it is, game publishers are not not going to release their game 18 months later just so you can get a final version on a disc, the world has changed.
Updates can also be a positive, games often get support for a long time and you are going to have to download lots of data, this is gaming and has been the case since last gen (2013 XB1/PS4).

With regards to the Series version not being mostly available and the XB1 version being on the disc, well there's a lot more XB1s out there, but even if they did release a specific Series disc (too costly to produce two physical versions, so no chance there) there's no guarantee that the Series version was ready at the time of disc production anyway.

Re: Sky TV Has Partnered With Microsoft To Resurrect The Xbox Kinect

JetmanUK

I've mentioned it before in a comment on another article here, on my honeymoon in Japan I visited the aquarium in Osaka.
They had a Kinect looking down on you to track your movement through a section on the floor where fish were projected.
As you walked round your splashes in the water scared the fish and they'd swim away. Of course no real, water, splashes or fish, just a cool effect. All the little kids seemed to love it.

Kinect, more popular than Xbox One in Japan!
Not difficult I know. 🀣

Re: Rumour: Xbox Could Be Adding New Backwards Compatible Games This November

JetmanUK

Most games that haven't made it to the program must be due to licensing issues, so the list will never grown by a great amount

I expect only a handful of games to be added, due to the software wizards in this department gaining so much experience at this point, then it's game over for this feature. Don't lose perspective on just how good they have done here!

Re: Dolby Vision For Gaming Is Now Available On Xbox Series X|S

@CourtneyDL Yikes. Glad that you've got a replacement sorted. πŸ‘πŸ»

I had an incident similar to this back in the 360 era. I had a console with RROD, no problem, I was gonna sort it myself. I'm on YouTube following a video on how to take the console apart... Console fixed.... Just putting it back together and I knocked my at the time very expensive laptop off the arm of the sofa, screen smashed. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€£

I'm glad this feature has come, we just have to wait for TV manufacturers to catch up with their firmware updates now.

I have an LG C9 and it currently supports everything Xbox has to offer, other than 4K, 120fps and Dolby Vision all together, I just have to make do with those settings at 60fps, or switch to HDR10 at 4K 120fps.

Now my model is two years old I bet LG don't offer an update, a shame when you spend big bucks on a premium model. Ah well.

Re: Interestingly, Tales Of Arise Doesn't Support Smart Delivery On Xbox

JetmanUK

This is a crap solution, the only thing its good for is cheevo hunting. I assume it'll be two separate save files too, just silly.

Thankfully, there is zero chance that this becomes the main way of doing things going forward, I doubt we'll see it again in more than a handful of titles, MS have already created the solution for this.

Also, the planet isn't gonna thank them for this, and neither will I. Smart Delivery is great and digital distribution is now, not even the future.

Re: Xbox Fans Call Out 'Activision's Greed' Over Call Of Duty Digital Prices

JetmanUK

@Widey85 Well to be fair if you play for example Black Ops on an Xbox One or newer console it is enhanced. Better frame rate, better texture filtering, faster loading, improved native hardware scaling, native video and picture capture, native streaming. So I'd say it's a much much improved experience compared to playing it on the 360.
Granted all this is offered by the console itself rather than Activision themselves, but still true.

Totally agree on the multiplayer issues, they should patch their games, as mentioned in one of my comments too.

Re: Xbox Fans Call Out 'Activision's Greed' Over Call Of Duty Digital Prices

@NEStalgia I'm not saying that we should embrace it, it's just an apples and oranges comparison.

Nintendo do this all the time, high prices, both digital and physical, rarely discounted and not by much when they are. They get a free pass, cos Nintendo, Activision don't because they are a scummy company.

I went digital in about 2015 and the benefits, no clutter, no risk of damaged discs, a library with me wherever I log in, game sharing (although I don't currently do that, but others enjoy this feature), no disc swapping, better for the planet, well it's revolutionary.

I think it's a much superior experience and I don't mind paying a premium for it. Physical media isn't gonna be with us forever, times have changed.

Surely everyone on here uses Spotify?! What a great product it is. Of course it's questionable how good it is for the artists.... That's a different matter. Hopefully Gamepass has a fairer business model.

Re: Xbox Fans Call Out 'Activision's Greed' Over Call Of Duty Digital Prices

JetmanUK

Unpopular opinion ahead!

I think the problem is we've all become accustomed to physical media dropping in price as the product ages, that's only because shelf space is premium and they need to put new stock in place.

We are in a digital era and have to adjust that thought process. COD, love it or hate it is a top franchise and Activision has every right to protect their IP and keep it as a 'premium' product. Apple do this, Disney do this.

To be fair, if you put aside the fact that you can buy a used disc for half these sale prices (of course you can, it's a second hand product!) the games are being offered at quite a large discount. They have also been offered at a larger discount in the past, that's when I purchased them.

Now, the issue of the games being full of hackers is absolutely a massive problem. They are selling a premium product, they should offer premium support. The games should be patched.

Re: Xbox Becomes Official Partner Of The England Football Teams

JetmanUK

This is a great sponsorship deal and I am personally very pleased to see this.

In the UK Xbox has had a huge problem for a long time whereby their brand is not anywhere, whereas you could walk down the street and see busses with PlayStation adverts on, billboards, people in PS branded gear.
This needs to change, to a lot of people 'PlayStation' means 'game console'.
For a while, during the 360 era, Xbox actually had the mainstream mindshare, but it's it's completely gone here. This is a good start. More adverts, more sponsoring events and sport.
