There was a lot of excitement last Friday surrounding the announcement of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, but if you were hoping it might be reduced in price, you might want to think again.
UK retailer Base has already begun taking pre-orders for the game across all platforms, and it looks like the Xbox One version will retail for £59.99, with Series X and S at £69.99. Base is selling them at a slightly reduced price.
It's been suggested that these prices could be just a placeholder as the release date is set as December 31, 2021 on the retailer's website, but considering you can already pay for them, we're assuming they're the real deal.
This would also appear to confirm that Take-Two will be skipping Smart Delivery once again on Xbox, choosing instead to provide a more expensive version for next-gen consoles. Let's hope the upgrade for these games is worth it.

I bought the trilogy a few months ago on the PS5 and despite living them at the time going back to them now is rough. If the prices in the article are anything to go by I’ll be giving these a miss until they drop significantly in price. Hate being charged extra for the X|S versions too.
2K holding on to the “£70 for new generation games!” Thing no matter how much people push back against it is just… I dunno. It must be working for them?
Hard to judge until we really see the gameplay reveal - it could be a complete transformation (though it says it retains the classic visuals lol) - but yea that price point sucks. Not sure how much of a difference the Series version will have over the Xbox One version as well… but we shall see!
If thats not a placeholder, this better be GTA trilogy in the GTA V engine!
If the visuals have been fully revamped like how the crash trilogy was then I'm on board, but if its just HD textures then this is the biggest rip off going and sadly it will still sell millions because of its name
They better be remastered from scratch in better engines or Rockstar can gtfo.
Yah, I will wait lol
Agree with everyone else - I adored GTA3 when it came out, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before (despite playing Driver on PS1) so IF it's completely revamped / remade with new visuals then I'll probably get this.
It's got to be a big transformation though - I actually prefer the smaller city and scope of these, but graphics and controls need to be modern in a similar way to Mass Effect remaster (and even that I've found 1 to be a bit of a slog due to the tiny levels).
I probably won't buy it even then at £70 without using some Rewards points or a decent discount - and if it's just a nice touch-up then I'll wait for it to be £20 or so.
Not even surprised. But if they think I am buying it at that price, they are mistaken.
PlayStation owners will feel right at home 😉 hahah.
Seriously though, if the graphics are worthy of this gen, then 70 pounds for three completely revamped classics is worth it.
If it's just some fancy textures and shinier character models then no. No.
Honestly though, I think it's gonna come to Gamepass. I know I sound crazy, but I just got a feeling
@FriendlyOctopus and continuing your theme I won't buy this because it could come to game pass. Why spend £70 to be stung on a GP release. Especially because I reckon it will come to GP eventually.
@StonyKL What theme? 🤔
Well my hype levels just dropped for this. Not at that price if it's just a simple HD texture mash up.
If this does come to game pass it will probably be like Rockstars other releases where it's only on the service for a few months.
I'll wait for a sale, I could afford it with reward points but I still don't see it being worth more than £30 in my opinion.
Like others, I'll have to wait and see how good the remasters are now if that ends up being the price. Definitely not going to pay that no matter how good the games are if the remasters are half-assed, but I'll consider it if they did a good job given that these are 3 classics. Honestly though, I may end up waiting for this to drop in price anyways depending on when it releases.
Hopefully this is good news in terms of how much effort they put into this. Hopefully.
Didn't Nintendo pull this with the Super Mario 3D Allstars Collection? Only with them they weren't even remasters just lazy emulated ports, and still they charged full price. Compared to that I guess this is a bargain...
@Spaceman-Spiff they also made it limited time and they got a bunch of sales from that as well
Its Rockstar, did anyone expect this to be cheap?! 🤷🏻♂️
A next gen price that better be for a next gen product. Not paying 70 bucks for slightly higher textures.
@FriendlyOctopus if it makes you feel any better, I don't think you sound crazy. These games could easily end up on Game Pass.
Ha. Rockstar can go F themselves.
£70 for what will be bare minimum effort ports of 3 very old games.
No thanks.
Wow. Well, this means the graphics better be good.
Hahaha.
Yea no. From their press this release looks to be n up scaled of the originals, instead of rebuilt.
I'd consider this price if they were rebuilt. Otherwise bargain bin purchase for me.
I know I’ll be in the minority here but I’ll be pre-ordering the Series X version as soon as it’s available on the Microsoft Store. These are the best GTA games in the series imo, so I’ll gladly pay £70 to have them on my Series X with achievements, regardless of what the remaster entails. I’d only buy this trilogy and a Max Payne trilogy at that price, I’d never pay that much for any other game from their generation.
Slightly amazed anyone was expecting anything different.
It will sell massively regardless.
Glad I was gifted with patience I will not pay more than $40. So I will wait until then.
The only GTA money I will spend, is for the GTA6 🙂
Given how little they've shown, this feels scam-ish even at $60 (much less $70).
