Re: Project Gotham Racing's Failed Reboot Helped Create Forza Horizon

JetmanUK

Following my slight disappointment and feeling of franchise fatigue after the release Forza Motorsport 7 I have long been of the opinion that they should have rested Forza Motorsport and made what has just been shown (their next track racer) as a PGR reboot.
I still think this might happen in the future, unless they slow the schedule down.
No way can FM support a release every two years again, it's just too samey.

Same applies to FH, a great series, now getting milked too much, slow sequels down or kill them MS.

When the Activision buyout has gone through just give us another Blur!!

Re: Resident Evil's Xbox Series X|S Upgrades Are Officially Out Today

JetmanUK

@Banjo- I'm in the same boat here too, Wii U owner stung by Switch port tax, picked up a couple, will not buy them all!

To think that if they were as good at this as MS I could have all those digital Wii U games on an account that is the same as my Switch account, and back compat or smart delivery upgrades would allow me to play them instead of paying again. How do Nintendo get away with this?!

Re: Xbox Dev: We All Miss Snap Mode, But I Don't Think It's Coming Back

JetmanUK

I always enjoyed snap and was quite a big user of it. It's true that with the addition of background music apps and the achievement tracker it's been made somewhat redundant, and it was a resource hog for sure. The OS got much faster when it was binned.

The only feature missing now is being able to watch a video app whilst playing a game, but we all have smart phones or tablets for this anyway.

All that aside it was such a cool thing to do that I voted for the first option. It's interesting that PS5 has snap type option now too.

Re: Early Look At PS Plus Premium Shows How It Compares To Xbox Game Pass

JetmanUK

I think the issue Sony have here is that their customers have been purchasing their first party games anyway so what value is there on a service with lots of older first party games on? Over time it will work, as people hold off buying but for now which PlayStation player doesn't own all those exclusives?! They are literally the strength of the platform. Sony will have to put new games in the subscription day one down the line.

As someone who always gets both MS and Sony consoles I think I'll continue to do what I do now. Buy Sony exclusives only and stay on the lowest tier PSN sub and get everything else on Xbox as it's my primary platform.

Re: Fall Guys Expected To Share Xbox Update On May 16th

JetmanUK

I played this game a little on my PS4 a long time ago and it's very very average.

The only thing I'm interested to see is if they have some Xbox and Switch related skins on their rumoured respective platforms. I would not pay money for this game and wouldn't even play it for free. Too average and too late.

I get that it's probably a curiosity for those who have not played it, give it a try and keep your expectations low and you might enjoy it. Maybe.

Re: EA Doubling Down On Battlefield With 'From The Ground Up' Development

JetmanUK

I think the franchise is on life support after some poor games, Hard-line, 5 and 2042. The next one had better hit it out of the park or it's time to rest the franchise for sure. If they do that of expect Medal of Honour to return in its place. An old familiar name basically giving EA' shooter game a new lick of paint. Still by Dice.

Re: Forza Horizon 6 Development Underway As Playground Games Searches For Staff

JetmanUK

The best game series in its genre.... But they are gonna kill it by running it into the ground.

Please leave a longer gap between releases.

I have played since the first game and loved 1-3, 4 felt tired and 5 I've barely played.

In reality I fully recognise that 4 and 5 are probably the best in the franchise, but I just have fatigue now. Please slow it down MS!

Playground games are a very talented studio, let them work on some other games for a while, other than just Fable.

Re: Halo Infinite's New Performance Mode Features Some Serious Cutbacks On Xbox Series S

JetmanUK

@Kezelpaso But it isn't a 540p game. It's a game with a dynamic res which bottoms out at 540p, it does not stay at the res all the time, also it's never displayed at 540p, it's a reconstructed 1080p from 540p on your screen. Your 540p comment in your article and reply is very misleading.

Here's some of the comments from the author of the video you linked in your article.
Remember this is the guy who performed the analysis:

'Xbox Series S in the 120fps mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being approximately 1536x1080 and the lowest resolution found being 960x540. Xbox Series S in the 120fps mode uses a form of temporal upsampling to reconstruct a 1920x1080 resolution.

The native rendering resolution seems to usually be below 1280x720 on Xbox Series S when in the 120fps mode and seems to often be 960x540 in demanding scenes such as the open world part of the campaign. Note though that a 1920x1080 pixel count can be resolved due to the temporal reconstruction used'.

Re: Halo Infinite's New Performance Mode Features Some Serious Cutbacks On Xbox Series S

JetmanUK

This is quite a negative spin on a great addition.

The 120fps mode is really more beneficial in the multiplayer mode, where it's quite stable, it's just a bonus for the campaign. 540p does not look like 540p due to the good quality reconstruction, watch the video to see that. It has a nice reconstruction to 1080p.

Anyway, anyone able to play a 120fps mode is most likely also able to utilise VRR too, so it's most certainly ok to play at 90fps, it's a nice bonus and will feel better than 60fps. I am aware that this game has had issues with VRR, but it is the exception and I am sure it will be fixed if it hasn't already been sorted in this patch.

For me personally I welcome 120fps modes on both Series consoles (and PS5) even with compromises, that is an obvious side effect.

I am just surprised by the negative tone of this article, especially on (my favourite) an Xbox site.

Re: Dying Light Patch 1.49 Adds 60FPS Mode On Xbox Series S

JetmanUK

Credit to them for adding 60fps support for the XSS in both this and the sequel. I and many others were not happy with their initial comments, but they have redeemed themselves since then.

The high performance mode runs at 936p (1664×936), that's 87% of 1080p, not bad.

I haven't tried it yet but I believe that the 1080p and 1440p modes are still present too. It's pretty great to see three modes on the Series S. 👍🏻

Re: Digital Foundry Analysis Shows Xbox Offers The Best VRR Experience On Console

JetmanUK

Xbox have been so forward thinking with visual features at their bleeding edge (at least from a console point of view) in their Xbox consoles, every gen.

Xbox - HD output
Xbox 360 - Multiple HD outputs, resolutions.HDMI output after launch model
Xbox One - VRR, HDR, 4K, 120HZ, ALLM
Xbox Series - The above simultaneously, Auto HDR

Even if most people didn't have a TV to support them, MS offered these features and I think that's great. They have pushed and helped to bring standards to the fore and be adopted. They have to be applauded for that.

I have no doubt forgotten some features too.

Sony really dragged their heels on VRR, as above it was included on last gen Xbox consoles!
We all know why though don't we? And we all know why the rate is 48-120, and not 40-120 like on xbox.....

EDIT:
Here's the answer...
Sony TV's didn't support VRR until recently, and now they do it's the 48-120 range only. Funny that isn't it?
It's almost like they wanted you to buy their TV and purposely borked features on their premium console to discourage you from going to buy an LG (or other) in the meantime. Hmmm. They wouldn't do that would they?!?!?

Re: Xbox Resolves Pesky Dashboard Game Boot Issue With QoL Update

JetmanUK

@themightyant I def read about a lot of PS5 owners unhappy with it's new OS due to its lack of features and design, I saw some owners saying they had rather that Sony had done the same as MS.

I was happy that they kept the old dashboard for the launch and some time beyond. No rushing firmware out that is buggy and featureless.

I do agree that a redesign going forward is the way to go, but when the XBO gen is left behind.

They will no doubt have a new dash being worked on in parallel with the current one, but without a confirmed release date it can continue to be improved and refined ready for the next New Xbox Experience, as they like to brand it.

I just feel that the new console received a less troublesome launch and the old gen has had a nice benefit too. For me they've played it super smart.

Re: Rumour: Warner Bros' Game Studios & IP 'Supposedly' Up For Sale

JetmanUK

@ShadowofTwilight22 Well, I'm not saying that PS having exclusivity to Spiderman doesn't suck or that Xbox having exclusivity to Batman wouldn't suck either, but from a business perspective and with the franchise being up for sale then MS absolutely cannot allow Sony to add Batman to their portfolio of exclusives. That would 'suck' more

Speaking personally I'm a multi-format gamer, I play everywhere, exclusives have zero effect on my ability to play a game or not.

Ideally the likes of an EA or other large publisher would allow all formats to include future releases. I mentioned EA, hate comments incoming. 🤣
I did say or other.

Re: Xbox Resolves Pesky Dashboard Game Boot Issue With QoL Update

JetmanUK

This is a great update, the way it works now is very clunky.

I'm glad that the OS for the Series generation is the same as the One gen as they had got to a good point by the end of last gen, so ripping it up and starting again would no doubt have introduced lots of new issues and short comings. They are just refining and adding features now.

The other benefit is that most features are still added and updated on the One consoles too, so QoL is improved for everyone.

Re: Xbox Engineer Explains Why Smart Delivery Forces Series X|S Version

JetmanUK

I am personally of the opinion that XBOX have this right and I am very happy that the correct version is delivered, sure you might occasionally get a higher frame rate if you play the last gen versions of a game on current gen, but these examples are rare and really shouldn't be encouraged..... optimise the current gen version developers! We should never have to downgrade to the Xbox One version to get a more stable frame rate, that's crazy! We have so much more CPU and GPU power now, use it properly devs!

I want a current gen version of a game if it's available, that's why I bought a new console.

Also storage isn't that much of an issue, the last gen version won't be thaaat much less and you can move games on and off external storage pretty quickly and easily. HDD's or even a memory stick are cheap options for backup storage. All previous gen games can be played from external HDD and proper management of storage means it's not an issue.

Back to Smart Delivery, I feel that this is not something that MS should be criticised for, they should actually be thanked, Smart Delivery is a seamless and stress free way of getting what you should be getting. Simple.

Re: Best Xbox Series X Headsets In 2022

JetmanUK

I had a pair of older Turtle Beach headphones (XO7), they were and are still really nice.
I replaced them with the official wireless headphones and I highly recommend them. You can pair with your phone and have a mix of game and phone audio too. I often listen to a podcast as I game.

Re: Microsoft CEO Praises 'Market Leading' Sales Of Xbox Consoles In 2022

JetmanUK

@S1ayeR74 I agree. I expect that the 'chip priority' that everyone is talking about is actually MS paying upfront for chips that they will require down the line, this in turn causes AMD to send sold chips to MS. MS have simply paid upfront for a product and therefore will take delivery of it ahead of others who have not.

As chip prices fall in the future it could mean that MS are overpaying on some of their stock as they have purchased at a rate that has changed, but it will still be worth it to get 'chip priority'.

Re: Multiple Classic Sonic Games Are Being Delisted On Xbox Soon

JetmanUK

I hate this.
Come on Sega, MS/XBOX have done so much for game preservation with back compat, they have really lead the field in the console space and yeah sure if you already bought it you can continue to play it.... But these games aren't being withdrawn from sale due to licensing issues (which are annoying in themselves), it is purely to make people buy the new shiny versions.

Crap decision Sega, I look at you in a worse light now. I won't be buying Origins.

EDIT:
I already owned Sonic CD, I just picked all the others up, so yeah Sega you got some money out of me, but you won't be getting any more.

Re: Dying Light 2 Is Getting New Game+ And More FOV Options This Week

JetmanUK

I know FOV seems to really be an issue to many players, some even saying that it can make them sick. I can honestly say that I have never played a games and wanted to change the FOV, on PC or console.

So whilst it's nice that they are adding an option for others, chalk this as a down as a I don't care, and I am glad for once that a feature is swerving the XSS as it would no doubt cause performance issues.

Re: The Witcher 3's Free Xbox Series X|S Upgrade Has Been Delayed

JetmanUK

I think this version was getting too expensive to develop, hence bringing it back in house before it was finished. I don't blame them for that, if costs were spiralling it is really not worth it at this point. Finish it when you can, no crunch. It's not a big needle mover anyway, just a nice to have for fans.
