It's officially happening, folks! Rockstar Games has confirmed today that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be launching for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S (and other platforms) later this year.
The bundle, which has been heavily rumoured in recent weeks, will focus on GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, and will feature "across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals."
"We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!"
Additionally, Rockstar says previous versions and bundles featuring these titles will be removed from console and PC digital retailers as of the week of October 11, 2021 (but they'll still be playable if you own them), and GTA Online will be getting some special GTA 3 gear to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year.
There's no release date for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition yet, but it's been rumoured that it will launch this November. GTA 3 celebrates it's 20th birthday on October 22, so we might get an update then.
Happy to see GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition announced? Let us know in the comments.

Sweet, looking forward to revisiting Vice City 👍
I just hope they ain't ports of the mobile versions.
@Tasuki I hope so too, and also I hope they renewed the music licenses of the original radio stations.
@Xenomorph_79 they saw the success of 3d allstars and thought "we could slap together a rushed trilogy" and they did
I absolutely adore these games, but I'm sceptical as hell on this until we actually see something.
No gameplay shown, might be a lazy cash grab.
I'm gonna need more than nice graphics, it was only a year or so ago I played molded versions of the pc versions, gameplay has really aged
Never played any of them. Might look into this, have to see how much of a difference is there.
@abe_hikura if you’ve played them recently I dare say this won’t be for you.
@Tasuki I’m sure an early rumour was this would run on Unreal. Not sure what engine the mobile version had.
All in all I want to get this but won’t if it’s not worth it and most likely will get it for the switch.
I was hoping for some gameplay.
Hopefully they don't play like the originals, those things are clunky.
The nostalgia is strong though and that will drive sales, just please please make they play more modern, oh and make sure all the original music is intact too.
I'm looking forward to Vice City and San Andreas. I never really got into 3 though. Hoping they fixed all the issues that plagued the 360 version of San Andreas.
It's funny when they try to build anticipation for a game that has been previously leaked. Adjust your marketing plan, guys, and show some gameplay upfront.
I will keep it short and sweet
REALLY !!! 😂
It’ll cost the full $60. Bet.
Already own them all on PS4 & I can't see them putting in any effort into this after seeing how much effort they've put into the next gen version of GTA 5 although I'm sure rockstar wishes they could remove those versions from everyones libraries & force them to rebuy them
They mentioning it will also be available to Switch & mobile just made me sighing. Not gonna surprised if they just take whatever works on mobile then slightly adjust them for another platforms. Rockstar owning lots of talents and multiple studios didn't prevent situation like ***** HD port of San Andreas for PS3 & X360 based on mobile version and that embarrassing reveal of GTA V E&E. Blame that for me being this cynical.
@elpardo1984
Nope, that Unreal Engine part is kind of misleading.
If they're doing it in UE, then it'll be a Remake. But the leaked doc says remastered.
So ... I guess its using UE4 as a frontend for various UI elements for the trilogy's bundle/common launch menu.
Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remasters are being developed by Rockstar Dundee, which previously worked on the Halo: The Master Chief Collection under the name Ruffian Games.
The same devs used UE4 frontend for the MCC collection's UI and menus previously.
There even used to be a common UE4 error in Halo MCC for PC.
Hence, this remaster is not actually being made in Unreal Engine.
Its the same ol' GTA III,VC, SA code made using Renderware. Just spruced up a bit. Similar to Halo MCC.
@chicken_chaser interesting cheers for the info
Much more interested in this than the 3rd re-release of GTAV. I'll likely pick this up as it's been a loooong time since I've played any of them.
Are they going to remove the ability to download the BC version of San Andreas using a physical disc?
I mean, some things in San Andreas felt clunky even back then, or like a couple years after its release. Unless they have done a fair bit of work on these games they are probably very annoying now.
Happy for those looking forward to this but a bit of a yawn for me I'm afraid. News on a new GTA would be nice.
Vice City. YYYYYEEESSS!!!
this is a buy for me as long as graphics werre upgraded and i can at some point grab it for 20$ otherwise they can buggeroff
