Update (Oct 2021): With the announcement of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, we thought we'd bring this back for a bit of fun! If you haven't already, let us know your favourite game in the trilogy down below.
Original story (Aug 2021): It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, with the rumour that Rockstar is working on a remastered GTA Trilogy for Xbox this fall, we thought we'd take a look back at the three games set to be included in the package.
Back in November 2020, we polled the Pure Xbox community on the best GTA game on Xbox to date, and Vice City ran out the winner, surpassing even Grand Theft Auto V. Will it win again? Remember, you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Grand Theft Auto III (2003)
The hugely successful, highly controversial Grand Theft Auto franchise moves into three dimensions in the dark and seedy underworld of Liberty City. With the freedom to go anywhere and jack anyone, Grand Theft Auto III puts the dark, intriguing and ruthless world of crime at your fingertips, if you have enough guts to take it.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2003)
They were understandably nervous about his re-appearance in Liberty City, so a trip down south seemed like a good idea. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. He's set up and is left with no money and no merchandise. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2005)
Five years ago, Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas, a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Now, it’s the early 90’s. Carl’s got to go home, but his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are heading towards disaster. To make matters worse, he's just been framed for homicide.
Let us know which of these Grand Theft Auto games is your favourite below.

Must have played vice city for 2000 hours as a kid.
Vice City. No GTA game since has come close 😁
Vice City still has that special feeling for me of the three. The setting, the story, the gameplay, the soundtrack, it's all just wonderfully done.
The whole trilogy is still really fun to play today though and there's no wrong answer here really.
I love GTA 3 the most, Probably because it was my first GTA game and my nostalgia for that game is off the charts..
Vice City again. Killer soundtrack, chopper for the first time, fantastic lead character and great game mechanics.
San Andreas was too big. 4 and 5 went too far down the Tarantino nonsense path instead of hilarious satire of the previous ones.
Shout out to Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories on the PSP. They were pretty boss too.
Vice City easily, San Andreas had technically better gameplay but the atmosphere, music, story and cast were at their peak for the series in Vice City
Vice City, hands down. Soundtrack alone is the best licensed collection of music ever.
Vice City without a doubt.
San andreas on the og xbox was awesome. It would take the music I uploaded onto my xbox, and mix into one of the radio stations with DJ, commercials and all. Listening to some psychopathic Rydaz, then sublime, all in game was pretty great, at the time.
While I'll always have a soft spot for Vice City, San Andreas gets my vote. It absolutely nailed the whole early 90's Boyz N' the Hood vibe. Such a great cast of characters and voice actors, especially Chris Penn and Samuel L. Jackson. Not to mention Danny Dyer's Kent Paul and Shaun Ryder as Maccer, the frontman of The Gurning Chimps. Wonderful game.
Hard question to answer.
GTA3 changed games for me.
GTA Vice City's soundtrack and setting just blew me away.
San Andreas is simply the best one, from a technical perspective.
But overall.... I guess I got to go for Vice City because the setting, tone and soundtrack.
My favourite is San Andreas because it is, in almost every aspect, the best game. But, Vice City was my first GTA, and I won't ever forget the many special moments I had with that game!
It's all.about Vice City for me no other GTA game ever got me like Vice City did. Something about the setting, the music and the plot. Sure games like GTA IV and V looked better but just didn't grab me like Vice City. One reason I am hoping that GTA VI will be set in Vice City.
I spent many vacations in the 80s visiting family in Florida. Vice city hit so many nostalgia buttons. Also, the story line that incorporates every 80s mafia movie and the cast of legendary actors was perfect. VC is the best GTA to date in my opinion.
I’m not a GTA fan, but I liked Vice City back in the day thanks to the 80’s setting.
While I’ve enjoyed the series all the way through, none of the games have ever really blown me away… except for Vice City that is. At the time it was perfection. Every element of the game was done masterfully. Of all the games I’ve ever wished to be remade, Vice City and Diablo 2 top the list. So I’m pretty excited that both will be receiving a makeover in the second half of 21.
I always loved Vice City the most.
San Andreas by far, its my favourite GTA game and one if my favourite games.
Vice City is my favorite for the story, music, and protagonist. The location and map all seemed awesome until i played SA. I'll take Liberty City Stories over GTA3.
However SA is my overall favorite for locations, map, side activities, countless hours of messing around, psycho mayhem, and experimenting with the long cheat/mod list.
I played 3, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS on PS2 and when those games released. The differences, additional features, and improvements in SA released in 2004 when compared to 3 and VC, released in 2001 and 2002 respectively, is remarkable.
Vice City all the way baby. I feel it hit it’s wacky stride a little harder than 3 but didn’t have as much fiddly bits as San Andreas. I loved San Andreas but the RPG-esque stats hold it back from being better than Vice City in my opinion.
Not sure but I'm most looking forward to playing 3 again
I voted Vice City, expecting it to be popular choice too. I see that it currently is.
I think the music and sunny aesthetic really made this the best GTA game.
GTA 3 simply because it's the original. I still remember what it was like to buy that game for the first time, looking over the instructions and all the crazy stuff they had in there, and then starting it for the first time. There was nothing else quite like it, I think the closest game I played like that before then was Driver 2, and GTA3 was an a completely different level.
Looking back I still have the fondest memories with it, something about all the original music they produced for it and how new everything was at the time.
San Andreas hands down
Vice city great sound track, loving the 80's vibe 😎
