Re: Starfield Design Director Defends Shattered Space DLC After Mixed Reviews

@cardcrusher29 I was trying to find the joy. It's kinda like when you get weak weed and keep smoking it because you already paid for it and you're certain you'll catch a buzz eventually. I'd already spent my game budget on this instead of Baldurs Gate 3, so I literally had nothing better to play. I remembered how long it took me to warm up to Fallout 4, which eventually became my go-to game over Skyrim. I desperately wanted to love Starfield. I bought a Series X just for it, I was that hyped to play. Emil makes me worried they'll continue with this homogenized games-by-committee formula.

Disappointed again. Starfield is the most disappointing game I've ever purchased. I've played hundreds of hours looking for the fun. With the exception of the Terrormorph quest line, it's all been forgettable. Not so much as an engaging and memorable character like Moira in Megaton. No lines stuck in my head like "arrow to the knee". Much like Andromeda compared to other Mass Effect titles, Starfield is somehow less than all the BGS games before it. If you've never played a Mass Effect game to compare it with, Andromeda is an excellent game. Same for Starfield.

I bought premium, so I feel obligated to play Shattered Space, but I keep turning it on, putzing around for a bit, then playing something else. My crappy phone game, Watcher of Realms, holds my interest better.

Re: It's Been 365 Days Since One Of The Biggest Releases Of The Xbox Series X|S Era

MALEBRIGNON

I literally bought a Series X just for Starfield. Got the premium version. Used a couple vacation days to maximize my early access. Played well over 150 hours searching for the magic. Left completely disappointed. It's not terrible by any means, but it lacks everything that makes the other Bethesda games so captivating and replayable. It's all so sterile and homogenized. No memorable characters or dialog. No story beats I yearn to experience again. I loved building settlements in Fallout 4 way more than I thought I would. Trying to find the same joy in Starfield was completely fruitless, especially when I colonized an entire system, set up mines and supply chains through much trial-and-error frustration, and then realized I had so much surplus cash I could have just bought everything without mining at all.

It disappointed as a sandbox. It disappointed as an RPG. It mildly succeeds at being a shooter, but it's supposed to be those other 2 things first.... 4/10

Re: Poll: Based On What You've Played So Far, What Score Would You Give Starfield?

MALEBRIGNON

I'd say about an 8. It's great, but sterile and kinda lifeless. I was playing Everspace 2 up until Starfield released and it had better space travel, combat, and better starports. The story is awfully weak. My eyes rolled so hard when I found the major Skyrim parallel. And the characters suck. I don't like anyone I've met do far. They are painfully characters instead of people. Met lots of peopley-people in Fallout and TES. None here, except maybe Sona. I'd rank this below Fallout 4, Skyrim, and New Vegas, but better than Oblivion. All that said, I'm 30+ hours in and keep coming back for more. I love how episodic it can be. I can play through an entire quest line in 90 minutes or so and then put it down and go to bed without FOMO.

Nothing exciting here. Wish we could get fewer games but of higher quality. I do love that we keep getting somewhat interesting rpgs, but I always shut them off after an hour or so of reading. Indie or not, there is zero excuse for not having voice-acting these days. At least give me a narrator. I love books; I just don't want to read my video game.
